What's your "go-to" movie? What's the movie you watch when nothing else on? You've worn out the "tape" of this movie. You play it for comfort, to help you relax or even take a nap. I have TONS of them. If I like a movie I watch it repeatedly. They are on rotation. Sense & Sensibility Moonstruck Open Range Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the tv series NOT the movie) Pride & Prejudice All the Harry Potter movies This week it's Sense & Sensibility. It's not really a sad movie, but the opening sequence use my favorite Beethoven piece which sets me off (was also used in The kings speech) even without a movie I'm the mistake you wanna make

The movie I've probably watched the most in recent years: As Good As It Gets. Number 2: A Scanner Darkly. other good ones when nothing's on: The Matrix or something with Fred Astaire (nowadays that's very often Daddy Long Legs, Funny Face or You Were Never Lovelier) .
and to a lesser extent: The Philadelphia Story.

If I'm drinking, Desperado...just to look at the perfection of Antonio.
Lately I've found myself falling to sleep every night to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It comes on about the same time every night on Starz. I've seen it so many times that it comforts me as I fall asleep. Perfect movie with perfect music.
If I want to cry, Bram Stoker's Dracula. Seen it so many times I've memorized it.

Any Tom Cruise movies. That guy is so intense, he always hypnotizes me. Rain Main in particular can still make me cry. The Firm -- love the heroic struggle to fight for principles. Collateral -- oh boy, love it. My fav line: "All it ever took was a Lincoln and some business cards. What the fuck are you still doing driving a cab!" (yep, did that from memory). I can probably recite whole movie. All the Right Moves -- this is where I first noticed T.C. as a kid in the 80s. I stayed after credits to see who played Stefan because he was so mesmerizng -- not talking looks, but his essence, his acting. Have no idea why people laud Risky Business, this movie should have gotten the praise for lauching his career. I like it much better. And you gotta love Top Gun just for kicks (I know all these lines too)
Next up, anything provocative and taboo by Bernardo Bertolucci, particularly The Dreamers.
Dirty Dancing Working Girl SECRETARY!!!! luv luv luv.
My Best Friend's Wedding. Mystic River - Damn. So well crafted. In awe. Boomerang -- The eddie/robin relationship reminds me of the dynamic I had with an ex. So fun! 300 -- Gerard Butler...omg. ripped abs. muscles. Alpha males. Aggression. [Edited 2/15/13 8:16am]

Mostly, whatever movie is on TCM at the moment is my "go to" movie.
But there are some I never get tired of watching. Depending on my mood, I might pull out any of these...
Now, Voyager Brief Encounter Gone With The Wind (usually if I'm facing a long afternoon or evening with nothing to do) Top Hat The Good-bye Girl It Happened One Night Dark Victory A Room With A View Private Benjamin The Lion In Winter Any Hitchcock movie except The Birds, Psycho and Marnie Roman Holiday An American in Paris Victor Victoria We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
