Hey Org shutterbugs...some camera advice please

So I came across this Pentax digital camera that I'm itching to buy.

It's a Pentax, sold thru QVC (so I can pay it off in installments)...but most importantly it's WEATHER RESISTANT!!!

I'm always taking my camera to the beach & stuff so this seems perfect.

But I'm hesitant, because it's sort of pricey.

Check it out;

Pentax All-Weather 16MP DSLR Camera w/ Bag & 4GB Card

  • Includes K-30 DSLR camera, 18-55mm zoom lens, gadget bag, USB cables, 4GB SD card, strap, lithium rechargeable battery, adapter/charger, ArcSoft PhotoStudio Darkroom II software, and Silypaix Developer Studio 3.0 software
  • 16.3 megapixels
  • CMOS sensor
  • 3" LCD display
  • 1080p HD video
  • 6fps shooting
  • Built-in flash
  • Measures 6"L x 5"W x 4-1/4"H

What makes the K-30 DSLR camera special? This all-weather camera is perfect for those outdoor occasions with memories worth capturing. And thanks to its 1080p HD video, you can record those moments in stunning high definition.

What can it do for me? Not only is it equipped with a 16.3 megapixel CMOS sensor, but this high-quality camera comes with two different kinds of software to help you improve upon your photography skills.

What's in the box? K-30 DSLR camera, 18-55mm zoom lens, gadget bag, USB cables, 4GB SD card, strap, lithium rechargeable battery, adapter/charger, ArcSoft PhotoStudio Darkroom II software, and Silypaix Developer Studio 3.0 software.

Retail Value: $1,025.99

QVC Price: $880.00

Clearance Price:

$629.00

Shipping & Handling: $15.47

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Anyone have any experience with Pentax? I'm a Canon guy myself.

The price is excellent too...which makes me suspicious. neutral

BUT I just googled it and it looks like the reviews are very positive for this model.

that lens is wide angle and zooms in to just a little bit more than the eye can see naturally. It's not a telephoto or anything, in case that's what you were expecting

oh, here's an interesting thing you might like to know:

good advice, shoot portraits all the way zoomed in for least amount of distortion idea

The images on left are shot on wide (18mm) and look like caricatures! and the ones on right 55mm.

(I shoot portraits at 105mm myself geek )

I'm the mistake you wanna make

Thanks man! I missed that one before.

...and the $600+ price listed on that site is for the BODY ONLY. QVC is selling it with the lens (+ bag & 4GB card, etc.).

I think I'm getting this thing.

i bought a camera from QVC over a year ago, and i loved that camera, it was a different brand than the one you're getting, but i liked being able to use their easy pay option for it. one month after i paid off the camera, my friend dropped it and broke the zoom lense. mad mad mad i plan on buying another camera from qvc in the near future.

be kind, be a friend, not a bully.

Jus' sayin'.

Not really sure what type of weather resistance you're looking for, or what you'd be doing with the camera in general. But the stuff people are filming/shooting with these cameras lately looks pretty spectacular. You could get the high end camera and a good number of accessories for the same price as the camera you're looking at. The camera by itself is much less.

Those are really cool thumbs up! but I'm not doing extreme sports or anything like that. lol

Mostly vacation photos, and since we love going to the beach, I wouldn't mind having something that gives me the zoom and low-light capabilities that can also handle an occassional surf-spray from a wave.

The camera that I stole from Imago bought last November (2011) only cost me $140 (incouding a bunch of accessories) and the focus is starting to malfunction. It's time for a new one.

And it's a toss-up between the red or the blue one for me...but I'm favoring the blue one. You don't see cameras that color anywhere.
