If you were given the opportunity to change your life and have a good chance at being in the movies or in the music field...which would you choose?

Doesn't mean you have to be a good singer or a great actor. There are plenty of mediocre singers (thank you autotune) and actors out there.

This is a "what if" anyway.

SO which field interests you (or if neither one)...and why???

I would want to be a Musician.

Actors / Actresses learn how to falsify their emotions. Musicians express their Emotions through what they play.

This is absolutely incorrect.

I'm already an actress - but on stage (which I love), not screen. My only wish is that I got paid for it more often. lol

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I choose both. I like acting, I do it all the time! I miss the grade school plays from back in the day! I sing with the chorus from the college I work at. I play piano/guitar - but do not have the time to practice. I like to/will have more than one job or career. I get bored easy.

Actor. Of course having insufferable stage fright isn't helpful.

I can't sing nor play an instrument but since this is strictly just a "what if" question, I would definitely want to be a musician. They've always seemed to live wilder lives (well, at least they used to before they all became "down to earth" and "normal" barf)

I would flaunt my fame with wild hair, outrageous custom made clothes, unique hats, limos, mansions, bodyguards, and a harem of men which wouldn't be hidden in a closet but flaunted in people's faces and I'd be such a bitch that I'd dare someone to say anything if they didn't like it. I wouldn't lift a finger to do a thing. I wouldn't even hold my own cigarette, I'd have someone to hold it for me on one of those long cigarette holders and place it to my mouth every time I nodded that I needed a puff. Hell, I'd even have someone hired to wipe my ass.

The problem is, compared to the hey-day of music-business (the late 50s-early 90s) hardly any of the artists make that kind of money anymore. Back then, having one successful single meant that you were an extremely popular band, because it took 20 times as many buyers to get you on the charts, whereas nowadays a hit single doesn't mean a thing, let alone generate money.

Of all the "pop stars" we see nowadays, probably only 2-5% are really rich. Many are made to look rich by their publishing companies (giving them clothes, hiring limos for them etc), but in reality, hardly anyone makes proper money in pop business anymore, which is why a flamboyant lifestyle like you described it is hardly possible, unfortunately...

Yes... I used to play sports in high school and wished I was good enough to play at the collegiate level. If you did it right (i.e. were good enough), you could just play professionally for a couple of years, save your money, and be set for life. And be in great shape.

What did you play?

Volleyball - 2 years

Basketball - 4 years

Softball - 3 years

Track - 2 years

Cross Country - 1 year

Basketball was my favorite and where I did the best. I was also a lifeguard for 8 years so I'm a good swimmer, even though I'm not the fastest.

shrug

I was also in the Speech & Drama Club and spring play all four years. My high school was tiny (probably less than 150 total) and everyone was in everything. My friends and I all played sports year round, were in speech & drama, and got good grades. The guys on our football team had to play both offense & defense. smile It was not unusual to play both JV and varsity, either. Some days I would have speech practice at 6:30am before school, then basketball practice or game after.

I chose art history because I decided I didn't want to major in math.

Last night I thought of something else.

Dustin Hoffman never has to repeat the performance he did in The Graduate.

He is free from repeating the lines ever again.

He is allowed to move on.

IF THE BEATLES were still together we would make them sing the songs of their youth like "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and others.

Actors need to grow up (even if they don't want to). No matter how much plastic surgery they have we have to let them stop playing characters that are in their twenties.

i grew up acting, even reaching a point i was sometimes being paid to do so, but ultimately it was just a step towards writing, which i love.

As much as I admire a lot of actors and musicians I am extremely happy to have so much privacy. I'd like to have their money, but not their fame. I'm especially afraid of the ego-trip, that wouldn't be good for such an unstable person like me. It's better this way.

I'm musically inclined ~ already play several instruments

Can read and write music

and attend/play live private jams 2-6 times a month as it is now anyway

Much more creative freedom too over an actress

I wish I was musically inclined. I'd love to jam on the electric guitar like the great ones. One of the biggest regrets in my life is never learning how to play it. As a kid, I gravitated to art instead of music.

Cborgman-I've only read 1 thing you posted here (part of your play). It was good writing, but I still think your strength is in full out comedy. Not just because of the funny and witty things you post here on the ORG, but it is present in your writing.

I wish you well, bitch. (It was getting way too serious for me.)
