Ryan Seacrest: Hosting New Year's Eve TV Bash Without Dick Clark Is "Surreal" Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

Credit to Dick Clark for being the institution that he was, but honestly it was just plain uncomfortable watching him for the past couple years.
That said, Ryan Seacrest and Carson Daly make me equally uncomfortable My Legacy

Surreal? Dick was basically wheeled in the last few years of his life to "wish" a Happy New Year when he didn't have the energy he did pre-stroke. Seacrest did it without Clark that one time he missed it so I don't know why it would be surreal for him.

May Dick rest in peace, but it was extremely difficult last year watching him sort of struggle. I'm glad he's able to rest now.
That said, I won't be watching the TV bash. Just won't be the same. [Edited 12/31/12 17:03pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I will miss Mr. Clark dearly. I was glad he still made an appearance on the show although he was not in the best of heatlh. After the stroke Seacrest took it over. That's life, people get sick. It does not mean you should just throw in the towel.

Actually, it was Regis Philbin who hosted the one year without Dick Clark, but that was just about a few weeks after Dick Clark had his major stroke. Ryan Seacrest took over the year after that with Dick Clark just making the sole appearance in the studio overlooking Times Square. The first year was really sad to watch, as it was quite clear that he didn't have all his faculties at that time. He never fully recovered, though he did seem to get more comfortable speaking in public up until his death.

Honestly, I never watched his show. I was either out, or asleep. I didn't actually see it until AFTER he'd had the stroke, and yes, that was definitely uncomfortable TV watching.
I don't hate Seacrest or Daly, but I don't actually like them, either. Indifference definitely applies in both cases.

I had not considered this being the first New Years Eve since we lost Dick Clark until coming across this thread, the thought of it is rather sad. It reminds me (…when I was a mere infant) of when the world lost Guy Lombardo, and how the countdown & ball drop in Times Square no longer felt the same.

Ryan was selected since day one by Dick to be trained to carry the torch. Ryan will be OK.

Actually i agree on all that about Dick Clark, it was tough to see him like that, because he was such a part of "New years Eve", as for the SHOW itself i havent cared about anyone on that show in well over a decade maybe two. And now the show is like LIVE AID without talent, it runs from like 9 to 3 am almost, what the fuck is that about? Some told me try to enjoy new artists, but sorry i cant get into Beiber and Pitbull and some 9 year old from canada whos nominated for grammies? fucking serious with that? and Taylor Swift and then that PSY cat with Hammer OMG all the alcohol in the world cant make me get into that "talent pool". I think that is just the way of the world, and as it has always been. I fully expect that one day in the distant future, when Justin Bieber is 60 lbs. overweight, a little gray, and rocking a comb-over, his fans won’t be able to accept the hot new 12-year-old thing, whose hit record will have probably been produced on a cell phone by using one thumb.

Given that there are apps available to make music with smartphones AND tablets, the next major recording artists to dethrone the Bieber might happen within 2013-2015.
Just wait. | |

The show should have ended in the 1990s when there no musical acts worth a damn to perform on it. Now that Dick is gone, it should officially end.

It'll never happen anytime soon as long as Dick Clark Productions can still run as a company without its founder, which was already the case when Dick stepped down years earlier.
