Not yet but I'm looking forward to it. I'm in New Zealand so it's summer and so far the weather has been to good to sit in a theatre for 3 hours so I'm hoping for a rainy day. Plus I am re reading the book which I want to do first, well at least the first six chapters. I think it's the first movie adaptation than you can watch quicker than you can read it. It sounds from a reviews of critics and Tolkien fans that's it's made by geeks for geeks as opposed to the ADD masses which is fine with me.

John Callen who plas Oin is a client of ours and he came in last week after the Premiere in Wellington and pulled a latex head of his dwarf self out of a carrier bag that he got from Weta as well as a bunch of lego figures of himself. He was loving it.

I was of the same mind thought till I read that Jackson is incorporating what was going on in the Silmarrion at the same time. Seems Gandalf is gonna get alot of screen time. Thats interesting enought for me to watch.

Was that the HFR 3D? We peeked into that for a hot minute, the movie was towards the end and our show wasn't starting for awhile, but we didn't stay that long, 3 minutes tops. I think the one I saw was the regular 3D, I really didn't notice a difference between the 2. They had all 4 versions at the movie theatre, 2D, 3D, HFR 3D, IMAX 3D. Too much technical stuff for me to keep up with who does what. I think I want to see it in IMAX the next time around, the screen didn't seem big enough.

Eh, I looked it up. Yes, I did notice the clarity of everything, which is why I think I want to see it in IMAX. I normally don't have an interest in the whole IMAX thing but this time I did feel it needed a bigger screen.

The HFR one is what's new in the history of filmmaking. 3D and large screens have been going on for years and years, but ever since the 1920's films were always shown at 24fps. This 48fps (High Frame Rate as they are branding it) makes the movement look live.

Some people think it makes everything look fake like a you're seeing a live play with fake costumes and sets.

Is that why they gave so much detail in the eagle picking up Thorin, I really really liked that?

I wonder if it was the combination of this and the de-aging of Hugo, Cate & Christopher, digitally gave them that animated look, which I didn't like.
