Trader Joe's

So, the Trader Joe's opened a couple of weeks later than originally scheduled.

I waited for the Grand Opening madness to pass, because I just do not have patience for that. Last night I decided to stop by and check it out.

I got peppermint Joe Joes, assorted frozen burritos, frozen orange chicken, bananas ($.19 each!) and a couple of other things that looked yummy.

Everything that I've tried from what I bought has been really good AND a big hit with my kids. I'll definitely be shopping there regularly. I need to plan a bit before I do any real shopping there. The store is almost an hour from my house & since I'll be buying frozen goods and perishables I'll need a cooler.

I revisited the thread I started a few months ago when I found out the store was opening. Now I can make a shopping list. I still want to try that Blood Orange soda!

Your first Trader Joe's experience? Or just a new one by where you live now?

Cerebus has an EXTREMELY long history with Trader Joe's, and he loves them (really). However, Cerebus also thinks that these days the tab runs up far too quickly there. Sure, they have tasty vittles, but you can make larger portions of nearly everything they sell on your own for less money.

Anyway, not trying to rain on your parade. Glad you dig TJ's. nod The locations around here are packed all the time. You'd think the people who shop there had never been in a grocery store before, too. lol

Very first experience!

I'd heard of Trader Joe's here, but the one that I went to just opened and it's the first one in my state.

lol Yep! That's why I wanted to wait a bit after they opened. People do act like they've never been in a grocery store before. Probably me included. LOL

I think it will be like any grocery store. You'll get a good deal on the specials, but watch the prices on everything else.

I like the "market" feel of the store. I will definitely be shopping there in moderation until I get a feel for the products and prices.

morningsong	I've never been to TJ. I only know where one is specifically, and it's in another city kind of out of the way. One day I'll make a trip specifically to go there.

Adria	I wish there was a Trader Joe's in my area. I've been to them a few times and wish I could shop there weekly. I was getting an echocardiogram done once, and the tech offered me a juice and cookies afterwards. The cookies were Trader Joes gingersnaps. Oh my gosh! They were so tasty! Get those!

Shyra	There is one in DC, but I've never been. It's located where I don't see any convenient parking. Seems it caters to the folk who live in apartments or condos near by. I would like to go, but I know me. I'd easily drop $100 or more just trying their different items.

One recently opened up by me.

They also recently opened up a Fairway market (which is awesome).

Once the "newness" of the Fairway wears off, I'll visit Trader Joe's. wink

Even though there's a trader Joe's about 5 blocks from my apartment Ive never shopped there. I heard they have some pretty good stuff though.

Anyway, Trader Joe's was in the news a few days ago...

Another Trader Joe's Recall—Is This a Trend?

Trader Joe's announced yet another recall last week, at least the sixth this year, affecting dozens of stores. This time it's a frozen Trader Joe's brand Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice entree, 4,865 pounds of which are being recalled because they may be contaminated with Listeria, a bacteria food safety experts describe as "scary."

The meals had already been distributed to Trader Joe's stores on the East Coast. Earlier recalls in 2012 were of Sunland peanut butter products stocked at Trader Joe's, Trader Joe's BBQ Chicken Salad, Trader Joe's Mild Salsa and Balela, the brand's deli and prepared foods involving onions, and Trader Joe's Butternut Squash, Red Quinoa and Wheatberry salad, according to the website US Food Safety, whose owner Susan Reef spoke with Yahoo! Shine.

Shoppers, understandably, are paranoid that there's something wrong either at Trader Joe's or with our food supply in general.

And it turns out that they may be right to be concerned.

If i recall correctly i think there is.

When i lived in Seattle i think i saw a Trader Joe's in the Queen Anne district.

Seattle has a lot of QFC (Quality Food Center) stores though.

I love Trader Joes; they have excellent stuff there. The one closest to my house is about 45 minutes away. So I know what you mean when you say you have to plan for what you are going to buy before going there.

Yes, there are 3 (1 near the space needle).

But don't you want to go to the original starbucks?? lol. That's here in Seattle too.

TJ is a bit pricey on some stuff and reasonable on other stuff.

I still love my costco though.
