Come on. You make a mistake at work and everybody knows about it - it's awful. Everyone's done it and it can be very embarassing - people leave jobs/are fired for such 'silly' mistakes. Now multiply that mistake to being reported and speculated around the world - front page news. A trick that was played on YOU was reported AROUND THE WORLD. It would take a very, very thick skin to laugh it off. If you were a very humble person who took great pride in your work...I hope I never have to find out what I'd do if I was faced in such a situation.

From what Ive read before this death, the woman was just known as the nurse that took the call, right? Her name was only released today after her death yesterday. The world only knew her as the woman who answered the phone. So I cant go with this worldwide humiliation. Its not like she was walking down the street and being scorned and having shit thrown at her or had gone into hiding.

The org is blowing this way out of purportion with half knowledge and personal emotions. Its sad but this wasnt some sort of public witchhunt.

That's why I said there's more to this. Plus they're not even saying anything to confirm whether or not she really killed herself. I ain't jumping to conclusions on this.

C'mon guys. Obviously, there was something else wrong with her. What happened would not drive a normal, reasonable person with a family who's depending on her to suicide. If it would have happened to me, sure, I would have been embarrassed but I would either being laughing at those assholes for scamming me like that, laughing at myself for falling for it or I would be trying to plot my revenge stirthepot . Committing suicide over embarrassment??? Again, there had to have been something else going on with her and perhaps that one incident just drove her over the edge?confused

The australian djs behind th eprank call have spoken out tonight on a current affair show, and basically both were in tears, saying that pranks call have been done many times before, they recorded it like they record many other things, and the people above them, put it on air, not them, it was not their decision to air it, they thought it would be a 30sec phone call and not be put through at all, it was a prank based on their accents they said. anyway, i believe prank calls are immature, it is done everywhere across the globe, it is evil and it is not a showing a good example to the youth. so ban it i say, it's about time. it's been suspended, but it needs to be eliminated, sure it's entertainment but at whose expense really, at the person being conned, and pranked. ashton kutcher did a whole series on pranking, i find it evil and hiddeous way to make money. dangerous to say the least, it's not nice at all.

I saw the interview too and still feel that they are victims if a witch hunt!

There are more evil underlying factors that have caused Jacintha to die and we may ever know what they are!!!!

The biggest thing about this that bothers me is that she had two young children and she did not even leave them a note telling them how much she loved and adored them

When a mum dies like this she always leaves a note for her Babies explaining - giving them something to hold onto just so that they know!!!!

I agree there are a lot of things like that, nowadays. I don't know if you guys have these I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! shows there, where they take these faded 'Z-list' celebrities looking to get back into the public eye, put them in 'the jungle', and have them perform all kinds of unpleasant challenges (being covered in cockroaches, snakes, rats; having to eat kangaroo testicles or anuses, etc). I can't watch them - and they come off to me like some terrible sign of a culture gone horribly wrong, where we enjoy watching people suffering and humiliating themselves.

There a show on the the Sci-Fi or Chiller channel called "Scare Tactics" that puts victims into terrifying situations, usually involving movie-style special effects and makeup that recreates horror movie clichés. The victims are set up by friends/family in tandem with the producers of the show. Some of these situations are EXTREMELY horrifying. Yet, obviously, it has a nice sized viewing audience because it's been on for several seasons. Some of the people are not very happy after they find out they have been pranked. If one of the victims develops some kind of mental disorder or commits suicide over what happened to them on the show, should the producers of the show be fired, sued or prosecuted???

Australian DJs
'Heartbroken'
Over Nurse's Suicide
Breaking News

1210_radio_djsMichael Christian and Mel Greig -- the two Australian radio DJs behind the Kate Middleton hospital prank call that led to the suicide of a nurse -- say they are "incredibly sorry" for what transpired ... as they speak out for the first time.

The pair sat down with "A Current Affair" in Australia and described how they found out that Jacintha Saldanha had taken her life. Michael said they got the news at the same time and Mel called it "the worst phone call I've ever had in my life."

The DJs have been off the air since the incident, which they say has weighed on them ever since. Mel explained, "There’s not a minute that goes by that we don’t think about the family and what they must be going through and the thought we might have played a part in that is discouraging ... I wanted to just to reach out to them and give them a hug and say sorry, I actually do feel sorry, I really do."

Mel's attitude toward the prank was different before Saldanha took her life ... as TMZ first reported, she posted a photo on Facebook just hours before, joking about how impersonating the Queen should help her score free drinks.

Kate Middleton Prank
Australian Station CANCELS Radio Show
Breaking News
1210_australian_djs_01
The company that owns the radio station responsible for the Kate Middleton radio prank says it has "terminated" the show ... and will implement "a company-wide suspension of 'prank' calls."

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) issued the statement this morning saying it still feels "deep regret" for the death of hospital nurse Jacintha Saldanha following the prank ... and "take the events of the last few days very seriously."

SCA says it has taken the following action:

- The suspension of all advertising on 2Day FM until further notice;
- The termination of 2Day FM’s Hot 30 show;
- A Company-wide suspension of “prank” calls
- A comprehensive review of relevant company policies and processes

SCA says it has tried to reach out to the hospital, but had "no success."

SCA doesn't believe it broke the law by making the calls ... but says it will cooperate with any police investigation.

SCA Chief Executive Officer Rhys Holleran added, "First and foremost we would like to express our deep and sincere condolences to the family of Jacintha Saldanha for their loss. We are very sorry for what has happened.”

He says SCA is also "providing support to our people who are deeply saddened by this tragic and unforseen event.”

As we previously reported ... before they were suspended, the DJs were actually BRAGGING about the call -- in which they impersonated members of the royal family to get information about Kate's medical condition.

shocking stuff, nobody could guess this would happen.

the nurse had to be unstable to have reacted like she did, anyone else would be in touch with their union, then swallow hard & get back to her duties , if anything it was the blabbing nurse that should have gone nuts with shame of it all

in this case the hospital has screwed up, it appears nothing in place to support staff.

considering their VIP patients, all calls coming in overnight should be directed to the matron & not the staff on duty. lazy management as usual.

her family will go after the hospital & wipe their arses with it, the hospital will prosecute the radio station & the presenters will have to live with their mistake.

Australian Radio Station
History of Airing
Dangerous Pranks

1210_australian_dJ-02
There's some serious hypocrisy at the Australian radio station that pulled the plug on the Kate Middleton pranksters -- because the station has a history of setting up dangerous stunts ... some purposely designed to cause panic and mayhem.

2DayFM's "Kyle and Jackie O" show aired a segment called "Desperate Acts" back in 2009 ... where a listener was given $1,000 to call her sister and convince her their mother was injured, bleeding, and in need of medical attention.

It worked ... the sister called 911 and sent paramedics speeding to the mother, who was totally fine.

That hoax prompted a police investigation.

Later in 2009 ... Kyle and Jackie O hooked up a teenager to a lie detector while her mother grilled her about her sex life. The stunt blew up in their faces when the girl suddenly revealed she had been raped when she was 12.

That segment led to another police investigation, and got the DJs a week-long suspension.

Additionally, 2DayFM has reportedly been on probation multiple times for violating Australia's broadcast code.

Despite getting repeatedly slapped on the wrist for their stunts ... 2DayFM honchos still signed off on Michael Christian and Mel Greig pulling the Kate prank.

2DayFM's response to the nurse's death has been that "no one could have predicted" the tragedy -- arguably true -- but they've also broadcast stunts where tragedy is not only foreseeable, but desired.

So, canceling the DJ's show ... hypocritical?

Thank you for posting that.

Because after the blond girl shedded a few tears, she gets all the sympath.

And now the DJ's suddenly have become the victims.

They officially state it was not their decision to broadcast it, so, it really was their bosses their fault eek That is so ridiciuous.

They don't even own up to what they did. And she only cries because of her worries. I mean, she doesn't cry for this woman at all, she just cries for herself.

And it works. Everybody feels so sad for her now. She really has cleverly turned it around into her drama. The poor DJ's are the victims, right?!

Please. evil

Well, this lady sure knows how to play the masses. She turned herself into a victim, because she just made the call, however she was not the one who ultimately is responsible for what gets broadcasted. So, now she is crying and wearing black clothes, and everybody feels sad for her?

She is playing you all.

Sorry, I don't believe her crocodile tears.

Yeah, there's a lot of that sort of thing around, and it seems that the boundaries have been pushed and pushed to an extent that now things are permissible seem to go way beyond what's safe, let alone what's decent. When you compare this prank to those other, extreme stunts that are out there, it comes off as pretty tame (and no doubt pretty lame to the audience that yuks along to the more masochistic shows), and closer to the 'old school' of prank shows/segments. Hence the reason no-one kicked up a fuss when the bit was initially broadcast.

The question about whether a producer/network of those extreme shows could could be held morally (or even legally) accountable is an interesting one. Morally, I would suggest that we subject it to the same litmus test as I suggested for this one: i.e. could anyone have reasonably foreseen an outcome in which there was injury or even loss of life resulting from the segment itself? Tbh, I think that with the Scare Tactics show, or the Brazilian one with the 'ghost girl' stunt, it would be fair to say that someone could reasonably have foreseen physical or psychological injury to those involved, and so they do have some responsibility - and could possibly face legal sanction proportionate to that. With this one, though, while it's true that they probably could have predicted that someone might get into trouble with a particularly unforgiving employer, I just don't think that anyone could reasonably have been predicted the tragic turn of events that resulted in an (apparent) suicide, so to hold them wholly responsible seems deeply uncharitable.

This situation also brings to mind the Jenny Jones Show case back in the 90s. Remember when she did one of those 'Someone Has A Secret Crush On You' shows? One of the guys came on thinking some chick was going to reveal her secret crush for him but it actually turned out to be a guy??? He then, in turn, murdered the gay dude a few days later, claiming he was so devastated and humliated by the fact they brought him on TV to reveal some gay dude had a crush on him??? Everyone was trying to blame Jenny Jones for it when, in reality, those Secret Crush shows were common place among most of the talk shows at that time. Embarrassed or not, it was HIS decision to murder that poor guy. Jenny Jones or her producers should not have been held liable for some moron's personal decision to kill someone.

That certainly shows a pattern of recklessness on the part of the radio station, and thus it bears on the moral case against that organisation. Those in charge of 2DayFM - and, indeed, its shareholders and those profiting from these stunts - clearly have some questions to answer. As far as the case against the two DJs who've been taking the heat (and the hate-mail) so far is concerned, I don't think it changes much either way. I'm not sure how any of us would fare if we had to shoulder accountability for things our employers had done before we joined them - or even, let's face it, while we were in their employ.

I still say the moral litmus test vis-à-vis the presenters is whether or not they could reasonably have foreseen the tragic outcome that transpired. And, based on what I've seen thus far, I continue to respond to that in the negative. TMZ stirring the pot puts a lot of shocking information into the mix, but I think we have to exercise careful judgement about whose 'scorecard' that gets marked down on.
