Brandon T. Jackson to Play Eddie Murphy's Son in CBS' 'Beverly Hills Cop'

He'll play Axel Foley's son in the TV sequel based on the Eddie Murphy feature film trilogy.

CBS has found the heir apparent to Eddie Murphy's Axel Foley.

Brandon T. Jackson has been tapped to star in the network's Beverly Hills Cop pilot, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

From The Last Resort executive producer Shawn Ryan, the dramedy centers on Axel Foley's son, Aaron, a cop working in Beverly Hills as he does his part to escape his famous father's shadow. Murphy will reprise his role as the wisecracking detective in the pilot and could recur should the project go to series.

The potential series is described as an hourlong crime procedural with comedic elements, with Ryan (The Shield, The Chicago Code) on board to pen the script and executive produce along with his MiddKid Productions partner Marney Hochman and Murphy.

Jackson, a stand-up comic and actor whose credits include the Tropic Thunder, Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son and the Percy Jackson features will play Aaron. He co-starred in CBS' 2011 failed pilot Hail Mary, starring Minnie Driver.

CBS landed the project -- a sequel of sorts to the Beverly Hills Cop trilogy that starred Murphy as the clever cop -- in September, giving the Sony Pictures Television effort a pilot-production commitment.

Jackson is a former THR Next Gen honoree, who was named to the Hollywood Young Guns list in 2010 after he landed a part in 2005's Roll Bounce on his second audition.

He's repped by CAA, ML Management and Baker Winokur.

Wise choice! Glad Eddie is using his star power again to create a new star...

Casting directors are so inept now. This is a terrible choice. This guy has always reminded me of Nick Cannon: He's extremely corny and annoying as an actor, as is not funny.

Kyre Batiste-Loftin (from Tyler Perry's "House of Payne") should have been chosen. He's great with comedy and actually looks like Eddie.
