Wow, just the other day we were talking about the Fiona Apple gigs in Music non-Prince. I'm very sorry to hear this happened to you. I've seen other photos of Sheepshead Bay on the news and the damage looks just like what you posted. Let the org know how any of us can help.

I found some of my baby pics today and cried I thought they were lost they were on top of my bookshelf. When my cousin took them down I lost it. Thanks so much for those who helped via PM. The American Red Cross is set up in Cedar Creek Park on Merrick Road in Wantagh. They have food. Cold Lunch consisting of sandwiches, fruit, coffee, milk and OJ. You take what you need and they have bags of the same for you to take for neighbors. They also serve hot dinners from 4 to 7. They are throwing food away b/c they have more food than people coming for it. They also have information to businesses providing free hair wash and dry, showers, charging stations and computers available to use to get on internet

Dear Orgers! I'm not sure if any of you guys are in NYC area or Brooklyn that can lend me a hand putting some of my stuff in boxes tomm mon, tues or wed. I'll be there from 10am-3PM. I need to move my stuff, so they can start repairs in my apt. PM(orgnote) me if you can help. If you can bring boxes too that would be a plus. Thank you in advance!

i wish the redcross could deal better with the food issues by being able to contract more vehicles to transport the food to multi-areas at the same time. i know many roads are blocked, at the same time many are not.

seems so very sad to throw good food away while people are going hungry within close proximity. imo the redcross vehicles should be equipped with audio sound inside and outside the vehicle to announce their presence. they could borrow and have installed the systems from the local p.d.

then the people holed up within their houses and apartments would hear the redcross annoucements and know that food is available. also they could network for basic survival and contact information. [i do thank the redcross for what they are doing to help, but, i mean it's 2012 redcross and fema people.]

Wantagh is on the south shore, which was hardest-hit by the flooding here on L.I.

The Red Cross was also in my area handing out bottled water and food.

Amazingly...almost no one knew about it.

there i no excuse on earth in these modern times to have a reputable help organization such as the red cross not to be equipped with audio systems so people can hear the red cross truck's presence.

Free food is being thrown away on Long Island while people are arrested in Coney Island for looting a supermarket because they are starving. Ridiculous.

i'm wondering how many of these types of trucks are being designated to mult-locations. are the roads in accessible, are there too few food trucks and first aide trucks available.

is the adminsrative staff of both fema and the red cross not using all the communication systems available to all areas in need of help?

why aren't these being shipped or airlifted to the areas to keep the threat of spread of disease?

with all the donations going to the disaster area seems coordinating the system to help expeditiously is (seemingly) in a failure mode at this time.

The same is true for much of the tri-state area so please check with your governor's office and your insurance company to see if your deductible will be waived. In NY the state will be monitoring the process of claims to insure the insurance companies adhere to this order.

The richest country on earth relying on the Red Cross while millions are wasted on presidential campaigning at the same time is more inexcusable.

so now an inquiring mind ask, "if they can deploy military trucks as polling places, why aren't military trucks being used to deploy food (and sanitation facilities)?

imo voting is very important, however at this time the need for food and etc supercedes any vote in an area devestated by a natural disaster. it's like the need to prepare for the nor'easter is moot.

okay, today i went to wal-mart. while there i'm thinking of items that could help those in the dark due to hurricane sandy.

i ran across these:

westinghouse solar outdoor lighting

has solar panel on top >the stem of the solar light can be put into any 16oz glass or plastic bottle as a stand.

the lights are good for 8-10hrs and can be restored by sunlight/daylight. at $0.97 a piece. yes i know, they are for the yard/landscaping, however they are good for indoor usage during a power black out. these would be of great help for those still w/out power for lights.

if i can come up with the small inexpensive ideas, then what's up with fema and the red cross.

i tested one of these lamps out yesterday at around 7:00pm.

westinghouse solar outdoor lighting lamps

it luminated for about 8hrs.

today i put the used one outside (overcast here) for about 4hrs. the lamp restored itself and the light is back on. they do work!

it would be nice if fema would distribute as many out as possible to the hurricane survivors that are still within the homes and apartments. the inner sharp inner stem should be removed before the are passed out. (some light is better than darkness).

one lamp luminates a radius of around 5ft. also can be used as an indoor flashlight. at $0.97 a piece for the lamp it would be sensible for fema or the red cross to purchase a large bulk of these to survivors sitting in the dark (at least until all the power is restored) i do not understand why these two entities are allowing the victims to sit in the dark when this technological tool is available to them.

yes i'm venting, but hey. if i'm smart enough to realize this then wtf!

here's another survival tool that can be sent out to the sandy storm people.

they come in boxes of 40 - about 2.25" x 4" and as large as 9"x13" . kit also includes feet warmers - that ones called "toastie toes."

for hands: packets of 40.

i bought 2 that morning.

i found out that this product is used mostly by skiers.

i hoping the info i share here to east coast storm survivors can contact their city leaders via email or what ever and maybe share this info so people won't be so cold for long periods of time.

they in-turn can contact the organizations in which many of us are donating and have been feeling frustrated that so many are cold and left in the dark when warming items are available.

even if their hands are being kept warm, that's a step in the right direction. frostbite can be like hell!

shoot if i'd of known they had one for the feet at the afore mentioned time, i'da bought the toe warmers back then.

anyway i hoped i'm not perceived wrongly in posting "survival tools" i'm aware of as one of my ways of helping.

i'm just hoping by word of mouth and those in networking circles in the east coast area will share this posted information.

imo by the time those rescue organizations get this type of info to the people in charge, along with the (sometimes ego trippin) meetings, bureaucratic paperwork and monies alotted to purchase the donated moneis for needed survival (non-electric) item(s) for those in distress it will be at least 2-3wks.

i ask you to pass on this (survival) info.

It's what - 3 weeks after the storm? - and about 200,000 Long Islanders are still without power.

There was talk about the military taking over the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA).

Saw on the news about a building with elderly in the Rockaways (Queens) with no power and no running water. Showed a 70-year old lady doing her daily routine of walking up to her 6th floor apartment carrying a bucket and 4 or 5 gallons of water.
