Has anyone tried Lindt's 99% Cocoa Dark Chocolate?

It has no trace of sweetness AT ALL nutty

I heard cocoa was high in iron, so I thought I'd give it a try - and I can tolerate it for medicinal reasons geek it's only available at the Lindt store (the master works next door to it on Friday nights so he got me some) but it's likely the last time - $5 for 50g mad

it even has a disclaimer!

"to fully appreciate all its flavours, we recommend that you progressively develop you palate through our range of high cocoa content chocolate bars, starting with Excellence 70%, then 85%, and finally 99%"

and I bet also supermarkets don't sell it because people would complain and bring it back lol

I'm the mistake you wanna make

I have. Not my favourite.

It would be good for baking, but not for eating raw. I usually have the 70 or 80 percent.

I love their 70%. I was going to start eating Raw Cocoa Nibs but apparently it can have quite strong side effects. I'm guessing 99% must be similar.

The most cocoa content I've eaten in a chocoalte bar was 70 something percent. While I like dark chocolate, that was pretty intense cocoa flavor. Anything higher than that is much better suited as baking chocolate, and anything higher than 90% is going to have a very small amount of sugar and cocoa butter by design.

Now they cocoa content of chocolate candy sold in Europe varies widely depending on the country, but here in America most of it is very much on the low side and is primarily in the form of milk chocolate. On top of that, most of the "milk" chocolate sold in the USA actually has a lot of hydrognated fats as well as milk byproduct and cocoa butter. confused I've bought some imported milk chocolate at my local Aldi store, and it tastes a lot different than our average Hershey chocolate bars.

Ghirardelli is an American company that sells chocolate which is the closest to European chocolate.

Lindt is the most common imported chocolate in the USA.

No, it really isn't like baking chocolate. Commercial "baking chocolate" is nasty. I wouldn't even use it for baking - to say nothing of actually trying to eat it.

99% cocoa chocolate is extremely bitter. But a good unsweetened chocolate (which is what this is) still has complex flavors that make it rather nice - in limited amounts. You aren't going to sit down and eat this out of hand. It just isn't that kind of thing.

That said, I think Lindt, in general, is pretty low-quality chocolate. If I want a 99%, I get something like Michel Cluizel. That is good chocolate.

Baking chocolate is sweeter to me, the 99% was good and intense! I liked it, but it had a bitterness to it but I liked that in its taste. It was nutty also.

If you don't like it plain, melt it and add to berries and nuts. biggrin

to eat as a bar, 70% to 85% is my limit as far as enjoying the taste.

the 99% ones however I always like to grate and sprinke over things that tend to be a bit too sweet (like brulee) to level out the taste a little, it turns out so yummy!

Most bigger supermarkets in germany sell this 99% chocolate. It's a lttle too bitter for my taste, but I like dark chocolate with 80% cocoa.

The best chocolate that Lindt has to offer imho is this one:

http://www.lindt-shop.de/epages/Lindt.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Lindt/Products/01801&CategoryID=4241707

It's better than 100 orgasms. I don't know if it's available in your area, but if you have the chance to buy it you should do so.

i'm not a big fan of the taste of dark chocolate. however in finding out about the not so good ingredients in milk chocolate, i found these brands listed as the top 5 dark chocolate candy bars.

lenoir extra 146x300 Picture4 3Picture5 2001133

Picture6 1luckily there are some exclusive import stores close within my vicinity. i'm sure they will have at least one of the 5 listed. i've had to change a lot of my past favorites in favor of good health, so i think i can learn to like dark chocolate.

(i'll miss good tasting hershey's milk chocolate though. why are so many good tasting foods so bad for you?)
