Is it too early to discuss Halloween costumes? Halloween is my favorite holiday; I love seeing all the creativity in costumes. I'm a sucker for a clever or authentic costume. I have mine picked out and almost all of the components purchased. Within the next few weeks I will try to get the few pieces left that I need and get it all together for a test run/try on.
Do you have your costume picked out?
What is it?
Yay Halloween!
PS. Please, this is just about costumes; so if you're not into Halloween for religious reasons or whatever please start your own thread in P&R.

Not me, but my kids...we checked out a few places last weekend.
My daughter wants to be the Mad Hatter(ess?)...between the costume and the wig, it's a $60 costume.

I LOVE Halloween!
At the high school where I teach, the staff and students dress up, and it's a fun day! Last year, school was cancelled because of the freak ice storm in NJ.
I just started thinking about a costume... I'll get back to you!
(BTW: I really liked your "Holly Golightly" a few years ago!)

It's my fave holiday too.
I saw these online and thought they were awesome.
Not sure what I will be this year but some of my previous costumes...Me as a half good half bad fairy.
One of my son a while back...made from a bed sheet, scraps of material, and my belt.
Same son years later...yes we still get into the holiday.
My grandson two years ago...
Wore this one to work and won a 1st place giftcard. Also terrified a lot of children.
My grandson as The Crow...I hooked this one up.

Yeah, I guess $60 for a kid seems like a lot for a costume they'll only wear once. I'm probably going to end up spending a little over that. The most expensive part is the grey jacket, which I got from Old Navy for $25, but at least it's something I can wear again to the gym. (I am only going to sew the patches on, not iron them on.)

Awesome! I can imagine that the costume you wore to work freaked out the kiddies. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. That sucks.
I love the Holly Golightly costume too, but if I show up at my friends' house wearing it again, I'm afraid they won't let me in. They are sick of it. Maybe I'll resurrect it in a few years. For a year or two we got lucky b/c she was doing Dance and for Halloween we'd re-use those similarly-expensive outfits that only get to be used ONCE. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I try to spend as little as possible. I usually get everything from the thrift store. That Crow costume was bought for about $5. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

What's the point? I don't have any place to wear one. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

No, I don't have a costume picked out. It was only a few years ago that I started back participating in Halloween. We plan to have a lot of fun this year, but I get all when it comes to costumes either because of the cost are because they are just plain uncomfortable after an hour.

Don't make it too difficult. You need to pick out a costume that will use a lot of what you already have or have stuff that's cheap and easy to find! I can't ever think of a costume of mine that has been uncomfortable.
Like this: Tourist - backpack, subway map, camera, t-shirt with weird saying Beach bum - swim trunks, flip flops, beach towel, sunglasses, etc. You could get really into it with zinc on the nose or have a bad tan/sunburn sprayed on. Bubble gum machine - red pants; large clear plastic bag worn over your torso, filled with multi-colored balloons; red stocking hat Magritte's Son of Man: bowler hat, black overcoat, red tie, green face paint for the apple.

^I was at a party once and there were 3-4 people dressed like this; they were from The Thomas Crown Affair (remake), which makes sense if you've seen the movie. It was awesome.
Edit: I'm convinced that part of a good costume is embodiment of the character. You have to become your costume. When I went as Holly Golightly I would get into the mood by watching Breakfast at Tiffany's while I got ready. If you go as a tourist, you have to ask for directions, take pictures, open your map and block people, etc.

I love the tourist idea. I would have to be a backwoods no class kind of tourist though. Funnier that way.

We had a "Masks & Mayhem" event at our studio on the 13th. Mary and I were Day of the Dead inspired ghouls.

Of course not! I'm hoping we do a zombie walk in my neighborhood. I'm going to be a Prince zombie!
