Ugh Tess bawl I read the book in one sitting and then couldn't sleep that night from crying too much. That was back when I was a romantic teen err Did she kill him because he kept the information from her that her love was still alive? I wanted to kill the other guy for being such a wuss and rejecting Tess for having been with another man rolleyes that's all I remember and I might have remembered it wrong boxed

Yep, her husband needed a beatdown for sure. But, in the movie, it shows her husband came back for her, he wanted her no matter her past, but she told him to his face it was too late. So I'm still confused why she needed to kill the guy she was shacked up with as oppose to just sneaking away and running back to her husband. It's not like the other man had any legal claim to her and or that her husband was too poor to stand up to the guy, he had some money and status.

Wit - 4.8/5 Terribly heartbreaking, completely engaging. I never thought I would get so much meaning from a children's book. Emma was awesome.

A renowned professor is forced to reassess her life when she is diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer.

Bernie (2012) - based on the Texan mortician who was accused of murdering the much disdained wealthy widow from the neighborhood after befriending her. 4/5

never expected to say this but Jack was captivating on this. not just his acting, but the fact that he pulled off a dance number without it seeming the least bit odd (until after the scene's over)

"what's that book where they're all behind the wardrobe?"

What?!? 4 out of 5?!?

Did you not read my synopsis of this tranwreck of a movie? If not, do so immediately! It's on page two of this thread.

Read it and then realize that you actually didn't like this movie at all!

There will be a part 3, though. Neeson somehow left two sons alive and forgot to be worried about that while eating ice cream sundaes.

As I explained in paragraphs 21 - 22, I expected action I could see!

But seriously - my synopsis is dead-on, isn't it?

Paint Your Wagon--3.5/5 This movie is more of a curiosity than anything. Clint Eastwood SINGS, and passably, if not great. The movie is about a mining community devoid of women. The one woman who enters the town proposes having two husbands, which makes sense in terms of supply & demand (and in fact, she is treated like property). And it works for a while.

The tone is very cute, but it actually is kind of racy at times. A bit long, not amazing, but worth a watch if you like westerns, Clint, or musicals.

I used to have a gym junkie housemate who had the soundtrack on vinyl and if I came home from work early I'd hear that Mariah song cranked up to 11, all crackly and warpy

I would guess that the lady with 2 husbands (assuming her name is Mariah) rarely had any alone time and that she got caught out on many occasions

Rembrandt's J'accuse

Rembrant's J'Accuse 3/5 I am seriously wishing I had time for many courses in art history, this is some interesting stuff.

A forensic search of Rembrandt's Nightwatch. Greenaway explains the background, the context, the conspiracy, the murder and the motives of all its 34 painted characters who have conspired to kill for their combined self-advantage.

Charlize is a pleasure, as always - but now after watching her play a spate of no hopers (Young Adult, The Burning Plain) I would love to see something different for a change dead

Tiny Furniture 3/5 - Not to my tastes - I actually watched it over three non-consecutive nights as I found myself getting tired of it at points - but I'm glad I watched it to the end and can see why it was a hit with the indie crowd types.

Vernon, Florida - 4/5 Errol Morris's documentary on small-town eccentrics. Fun, maybe a little pointless, & definitely not one of his 'major' weighty docs like Thin Blue Line or Fog of War.

Snow White & the Huntsman 2.5/5 I really liked Chris Hemsworth half taking off his shirt, and Charlize Theron's evil queen was excellent. I think I'm sprung on Ginnifer Goodwin's Snow White, even when she picks up a sword, with her adorable ears far more than Kristen Stewart's, I just couldn't buy into it. I disliked the LotR-ish feel for such a simple story, and the hard to understand accents and dialects.

sad this is Bob Hoskins last movie, he's retiring.

The River Murders 3/5

Ray Liotta stars as a pudgy Seattle police detective who is trapped between a serial killer and his department in this murder thriller. Also featuring Christian Slater and Ving Rhames

The second half of the movie was a mess, confusing and fiddled. I didn't like the religion theme running in this story at all, and the characters were not fully developed. Seemed to be a good movie, but the end was a disaster.

So, is Liotta really an unlikeable actor. His character was not to be liked in this movie.

I was just listening to an episode of Filmspotting where they really talked up this movie, and their description made it sound like my kind of film.

It could have if they had someone who could "own" the opposing central character Snow White as strongly as Charlize did the evil queen, especially if they wanted to get all epic about it with the accents, the cultural references and the scenic views. I'm just not sure who is young enough, physically striking enough and still have those kind of acting chops.

Here in the States there's a TV show, with a central character of Snow White, it's in the top 5, right now, so I don't think people are bored with the character, it's a very beloved one.

Nightwatching

Nightwatching - 3.5/5 I'm glad I saw J'Accuse first, cause I think I'd of been lost. It looked beautiful like a painting, a definite Greenaway movie and the story was intriguing even though I've concluded that I don't buy it, still a very interesting story.

Of course the movie is all about how the arrival of the outsiders turns the commune upside down. There was nothing too heavy here, but it was very pleasant.
