My mom just bought my 2.5 yr old son a guinea pig for being all potty trained and totally out of pullups. He has allergies to dog saliva and we can't have a cat where we live right now. It is cute but not the same as an actual pet to me. I guess because I have always had dogs and cats.
He says he loves her, we named her Peanut. I tried to get him to name her Oreo since she has white in the middle but he has never had an oreo and has no idea what I am talking about so we shall can her Peanut. I don't know why an adult would want one tbh.

guinea pigs are cute. i always thought of them as teensy rabbits, which isn't accurate at all. they look cuddly. i wonder if they chew?
as for giving an animal as a gift, imo it's not a great idea. not unless you make sure in advance the animal will be welcome.

Yeah he learned a lesson He's only 19 so I'm sure he'll get over it-he adopted her and her cage was included. Adopting it from Petco saved him money so he didn't spend to much on it. I think his feelings were hurt though

that's too bad. it was a generous gesture all around. maybe it will be nice for you to have someone around to talk to? critters are good company. or, you could find her a good home. good luck and good for you for taking her into your home even if it's only for a little while.

I may bore her to death Im gonna find her a good home

i'd think a small child would be a good new home. maybe you could put up flyers saying free to goo home at the grocery store. i've seen those before. hope things work out.

I had two guinea pigs that I adopted, Charles and Camilla. Camilla lived to be six and half, Charles lived to be seven and a half (I just had to have him put down in May). They were so cute, and to this day my family continues to tell stories about both of them.
Need some fun things to do with your pig? 1. I highly recommend getting another pig to go with this one... they get lonely otherwise, guinea pigs are very social (and this way the pressure is off you to entertain them constantly!)
2. Getting them to do their little "popcorn" jump is best thing ever. It's like they get these little spasms when they're too happy. My baby Charles popcorned the moment he saw me when I walked into his foster parent's home... they said they'd never seen that before. I knew it was fate!
Try playing some music, Charles liked pop. Could always get them both running around and jumping! Also, after a few weeks, opening the refrigerator door will do the trick too.
Have fun! | |

My eight year old daughter had four.
Hazel Oreo Brownie and Nilla
Sadly Nilla passed away Monday afternoon
Piggies, are sweet animals and a lot of fun. They are for the most part easy to bond with and build trust.
The hopping around and chirping songs they sing are a hoot!!

If you let it outside make sure your watching it closely, they love to hide and will get lost or eaten.

We thought about getting another one but we don't know what sex this one is and if we go back to pet store they don't know the sex and I don't want to end up with a male & female then have babies. I guess I could wait til this one is old enough to sex then adopt one that has already been sexed perhaps?

i have witnessed ?popcorning & it is cute. my cousin was heavily in2 guinea pigs, he took them to shows & won medals & stuff but he was pretentious & called them cavies which is the proper name 4 them. we used to cavy talk, eeek ek, eeeeek, ekk, ekk, in the shed somehow we ended up with a couple, they didn't live very long & i don't remember bonding with them. i remember my mum buried one at the bottom of the garden, the next day a fox had dug the poor thing up i preferred rabbits, they're more cuddly & are easier to catch

Yes, a store or a vet should be able to tell within a few weeks. Check with your local animal shelter-- a lot of times they'll have guinea pigs that are fixed, and then you can get a female (two unrelated boy pigs may not get along well but girl/girl boy/girl pairs usually go well).

Good thinking. I can check on petfinders too. There is always ppl getting rid of their pets. I am hoping I have a girl right now then I can get another girl. Ours is still quiet and getting used to everything in her new home. My toddler is quite loud so I hope she adjusts ok.

She/he is cute but I would rather have a dog that might not happen for a few years.
