MP3 players...suggestions?

So...looking for some advice/suggestions...

I ruined my iPod and haven't gotten around to try & fix it (got wet...the Apple store declared it dead...I found info online about changing the faceplate as a possible solution...but shrug).

So I've been using my old Sansa player, which had great sound, though nowhere near as cool as the iPod...but now I've LOST it.

disbelief

My cell is a company phone with very little memory, so I don't want to load music onto it.

I don't necessarily want to pay IPod money, but I want something better than the average mp3 player.

Anyone have something that they want to recommend?

I really miss my music at the gym. pout

Creative makes really nice sounding mp3 players.

I owned an older creative NuVo years ago, and really enjoyed it. The sound was great.

A step up from the m300 is the Zen products, which are android based (so I'm guessing you may be able to root it and side load android apps on it). The price point goes up on the Creative Zen to around $140 us bucks though, and I would just recommend going to an iPod nano (if you can wait till September) or going with a iTouch for $50 more bucks at that point.

The problem with competing mp3 players is not sound, that's for sure. I loved my creative ones.

It's with software and music selections (if you get your music legit--The iTunes store is now by far the largest online music store, unless you go with the Russian ones).

Look into the Zen. Alot of big box stores sell them, so you may be able to see a demo of one before buying.

I can get a replacement (refurbished) iPod Touch 32GB (no camera) at the Apple Store for $150.

When I said "iPod money" that's what I meant. My Sansa was $70.

Being able to web browse & download apps on it was awesome, but ultimately it's the MUSIC that I need.

shrug

Who the hell am I kidding...I'm gonna go buy that damned iPod, ain't I?

Stymie

I'd probably get an iPod shuffle. Even the smallest can hold 500 songs and it's 50 bucks or less.

You know, I've considered it.

But for a few bucks more, my Sansa had an LCD display.

shrug

Which is ridiculous since I rarely used it that way.

I think I'm just trying to talk myself out of the iPod Touch and it's not really working. hrmph

Listen to Stymie. Ipod: Shuffle or Touch.

I'd wait on the Touch because an new release should be coming in the fall Sep/Oct. I have a shuffle for walking/riding my bike...just clip the damn thing on and go.

I use my iphone, but if I was going to get another dedicated one I think I would consider battery life as much as anything. The touch can't have great battery life, can it?

Specifically for the gym, I would get a nano or something very small.

I don't want to hold it, and the one time I jogged with my ipod classic it fell off of the clip and into the dirt!

hmm doh!

You're freakkin' RIGHT.

The one thing about the Touch was it kept falling out of the arm-band holder at the gym.

hmmm

Maybe I need a nano...

Make sure it does NOT need Windows Media Player in order to "detect" the songs, otherwise it will function as a pen drive, not as a mp3 player...

Avoid CREATIVE at ALL COSTS !!!!

HELL YES! biggrin I can definitely big up the Creative products. Still got my 4gb Zen, that's going strong...only downside is volume...either I'm going deaf or I could do with a couple more notches of volume. My other half has the Creative Pebble which is a great little 1gb player.

My sister recommended them original. Not sure what her first Creative was but I borrowed it for a two week trip to the States and I was sold. Brilliant product, and you haven't got to wrangle with I-Tunes and the Ipod which I've found to be the most un-user-friendly programs and products ever!
