a goodie, 'cause 4 me santana will never be an oldie. his sound crashes through the barriers of time and space imo.

recorded May, 1993. carlos santana represents the true sounds of america. imo he's so above racial inequality in sound and lifestyle.

“Transracial is a term that has long since been defined as the adoption of a child that is of a different race than the adoptive parents,” : https://thinkprogress.org...fb6e18544a

If you're looking for an uplifting movie about the importance of fatherhood, with a Godly message -and who isn't looking for that kind of movie?!? - then I most highly recommend:

Holy crap.

http://en.wikipedia.org/w...oth_(film)

Christina is again brought to the compound to perform her services and she once more requests oral sex from the elder daughter. However, the daughter rejects Christina's offer of hair gel as a reward, choosing instead the two films in Christina's bag (Rocky IV and Jaws). Christina refuses to hand over the films, but eventually agrees under threat ofblackmail. The elder daughter watches the films at night, and they have a significant influence on her. She recreates scenes from the films and quotes them in her free moments. The father finds the videotapes, fashions one into a weapon with packing tape, and uses it to beat his daughter's head. Then he goes to Christina's flat, removes her VCR player from the wall and knocks her off her chair with it. As he leaves, he curses her future children to be corrupted by "bad influences."

In the middle of the night, the son's knee is injured with a hammer and he accuses his younger sister. She claims he was attacked by a cat with a hammer and the father accepts her story. The parents quickly decide that, with Christina no longer available, they should allow the son to choose one of the daughters as a replacement. After fondling both sisters simultaneously in the bath with his eyes closed, he chooses the elder, who is later dressed and prepared by the mother for the sexual encounter. The elder daughter is visibly uncomfortable during intercourse, and afterwards recites a threatening passage from Rocky IV to her brother.

Rocky IV?!? Everyone knows Rocky III was far superior in every way. There's no way this movie can be a 5/5. Bypassing a masterpiece like Rocky III means it could not be any more than 0.25/5.

Also, no one in the world would turn down some hair gel in exchange for oral sex. I mean, come on.

You are absolutely right! That’s the kind of loose wording that can get your head torn off in p&r. Good thing ianrg doesn’t post in this forum.

What I should have said is that Dogtooth is the kind of movie I like the most: absurd, a little evil & with enough reality in it to be uncomfortably creepy. Movies like Cement Garden, the first few Todd Solondz movies, perhaps In the Company of Men. I can see myself coming to like Dogtooth more (or less), but I’ll have to let it settle in first and go back to it a few times before I can really say where it sits with me.

Ottensen

This year I've been closely following the CNN International Freedom Project, in which they've created a tv series and social movement across the world to address modern day slavery and human trafficking. As a result I've been inspired to see some pretty tough documentary films about women in the sex industry around the globe, and how trafficking comes into play in their situations, particularly those who are bought, sold, and owned as slaves. Shown in several EU film festivals in 2011, the documentary "Whores' Glory" covers ground sharing the lives of the average sex worker in Thailand, Mexico, and India. Whereas one can easily see the life of an Indian brothel whore as being nothing more than indentured servitude (and the Mexican and Thai hookers seemingly have more of an active choice to become/remain sex workers or not), it's still pretty bleak all around, gut wrenching at times- and a downer you really have to be in the mood for : 5/5 star star star star star

Awesome!

Whoever wrote that movie has one vivid imagination! I'm not sure I'd ever want to watch it, but that recap on Wikipedia was pretty dang wild.

Mozart's Sister

Mozart's Sister 3/5 Like most period pieces very slow paced, and a lot of "artistic license" where the timelines are serverly skewed and people who didn't meet met. But I at least liked the play on the idea that she had a time in her life that she got a moment to express herself, even though historically that wasn't true.

Autumn Spring

Autumn Spring 4/5 Terminal prankster Frantisek Hána refuses to grow up and take certain responsibilities, despite his wife Emilie's constant badgering to do so. Even faced with his own looming death and an ungrateful son who wants to whisk his parents off to the old folks' home, Frantisek's wit won't quit as he vies to live until he dies.

Made me tear-up a little, it was very sweet and loving.

I was also going to ask what about this film made it slightly less than perfect because of your 4.5 rating. I gave it a 4/5.

I've read that the movie Attenberg which is linked to the director of Dogtooth is similarly quirky. I wanted to see it, but missed it at the cinemas this year.

^ that looks weird.

Oh yeah, and...

Immortal Beloved 3.8/5 A complete and utter lie, but it brought a tear to my eye and I can see the director really loves Beethoven inspite of his flaws, so who cares, nobody will ever truly know the truth. Now I'm really upset I can't find my Bram Stoker's Dracula DVD.

I was going to rate it 5, but told myself to tamp down my enthusiasm. I've been red-hot on movies & music in the past, then cooled relatively quickly, so I prefer not to assign perfect scores when I haven't lived with a film in my head for a while. I've added the Dogtooth dvd to my amazon cart (doesn't appear to be on blu-ray, at least not in Canada) so I'll get to spend a little more time with it shortly.

I haven't heard of Attenberg, but it's now on my radar. I did know that the director of dogtooth had a new-ish movie out (apparently was out in europe last year, but just made its way to the US in 2012). I assume you haven't seen it since you made no mention of it. Some of the reviews have been middling, but it's apparently similar in tone & style to dogtooth.

He was a quiet man/ DramaComedy/ Christian Slater: A very quirky weird movie that kept me entertained. A troubled loner, imagines blowing up the tower in Los Angeles where he works. He takes a revolver to his office intent on killing colleagues, and then himself.

This is portrayal of a bored/lonely person in an office environment that goes nuts in a weird way. It's more a drama with an interesting character develpment. Good movie!!

3/5

This reminds me of that tv miniseries I was watching "Human Trafficking" hardly a documentary, but what it showed was pretty bad and heartbreaking to know that goes on daily basis.

I researched Alps on IMDB which said it opened here two months ago, but I don't remember hearing anything about it. The premise reminds me a bit of the Japanese film Departures. I'll look it up when it's released on disc.

That's one of my favourites! It's no "The Island" razz I give you that. I love how it's so much like all the english boarding school novels I devoured as a kid, with a total matter of factness about what their role was, how those kids were brought up and groomed into acceptance of their fates, or is it braveness? It was so real and normal. It was heartbreaking and strange and I loved how there was nothing sensational, no action, just get on with it!. I would give it probably a 4, 4.5 if I didn't have to suffer Keira Knightley

The Falls 0/5 neutral I didn't even bother finish watching. I need actors, some visual representation(hell, even just people walking past the camera) in movies I watch. Okay, it had one guy who randomly showed up to do an interview or two, he was boring. Outside of that is was (ugly, color drained) shots of scenery while somebody "narrated" about various individuals that lived in this future world. The film was too old and too low budget. The premise sounded good, maybe I'd get into it as a book.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) - A substance, designed to help the brain repair itself, gives rise to a super-intelligent chimp who leads an ape uprising.

I'm not a Planet of the Apes fan at all, but this was very good. I liked that the film made you root for the apes. star star star star
