The Girl Who Played with Fire - Swedish version 3 out of 5 stars.

The movie wasn't great, but I love this series and this Lisbeth kicks ass. She looks just like I thought the character would look. Can't wait to see The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest.

Paper Covers Rock - 3/5. Woman tries to piece her life together after a suicide attempt. A bit like a lower-budget, lesser Mary Martha May Marlene.

I've seen this three or four times. Enjoy it each time.

Do you get the Adam and Eve vibe sometimes throughout this? I kept feeling that. I like the use of art in his films. Have you seen "The Fall"?

No, hadn't thought of that.

I saw someone passive aggressive who played games back.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

The Other Woman - Natalie Portman lights up the screen in this frank, funny, and heart-wrenching adaptation of bestselling author Ayelet Waldman's novel about life, loss, and family.

Blah, just blah.

2 out of 5

You know what, that could explain that scene with the truck/van. Interesting movie though.

Noise/ Drama&Comedy:Tim Robbins is being driven crazy by the noise in New York City decides to take vigilante action against it.. There is a great message in this movie, great story, great acting. Much better than I expected it to be a silly comedy.

3,5/5

Yes, I really related to this movie. I have wanted to perform acts of terror against noisemakers. I wish that this was a documentary, considering the fact he got legal action in the end

I related too. It's great that he wanted to make a change, and it was also well acted. For once it is a comedy that is not cheesy and stupid!

ET was on TV this weekend. I had not watched it for at least 20 years. It doesn't resonate in the same way Star Wars does, but it may be a better movie than 4/6th of Star Wars. Henry Thomas in particular does a great job, and I am not a fan of child actors

A bit schmaltzy, and it degenerates into the chase at the end with some tugging of heart strings, but I would give it a 4/5

This is the best kids movie of all time. Strangely, I also liked City of Ember!City of Ember is a 2008 science fictionfantasy film based on the 2003 novel of the same name by Jeanne DuPrau.

Source: Wiki

This story takes place in a sunless, dark and moonless city where the only light comes from electric lamps. As supplies run low and the electrical system starts to fail, the city is headed for disaster. Two children, Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow, are on the quest of finding the way out.

Castaway--1986 Two strangers meet through a personal ad and agree to go to a deserted island for a year.

This was re-made into Swept Away with Madonna. I never saw that film, but I certainly saw this one on cable as a kid. It's not like I remember, I must have missed the beginning. I did not realize they agreed to go away to an island for a year. I thought they got stranded there.

Lots of nudity, kind of funny, and decent acting. Beautiful scenery. The premise is pretty unbelievable, though. It seems like someone just thought of a silly excuse to film a love story with lots of nudity, pretty scenery...

3/5 stars

EDIT--I just read the review for Swept Away, I guess it was not a re-make of this, and it explains my confusion at the plot! dead But my review stands!!

I'm going through a period piece moment. More on the list.

Artemisia 1.5/5 Disappointing. Basically soft core porn using a moment in a historical figure's life to legitimize it. Absolutely nothing about what made this person unique and able to rise given the obstacles they had to face.

Farinelli 1.5/5 Another disappointment. I knew nothing about the castrati and I thought I was going to delve into a unique hidden world. Some menage a trois and swooning women does not a movie make. And a whole bunch of lip-syncing to a woman singing isn't very impressive or moving, either. The background staging was engaging.

Valhall Rising - 2/5 Watched this due to greatly enjoying Drive and Bronson from the same director. Some exciting moments, mostly at the beginning, and some nice scenery, but glacially paced. I've never had a ninety minute film feel so long and deadening. I have no problem generally with slowly-paced movies as long as they build to something, but this plodded along with no payoff that I could detect.

After seeing this one, I remember reading that the movie took heavy artistic license with the 'romance' between Artemisia and her teacher.

Dredd 3D

Dredd 3.5/5 Somewhere in the beginning I got a little bored but then it drew me in and drew me in good. This is not for children. It is not comical. Despite the violence I didn't cover my eyes once, it was gross yet I wouldn't say overdone given the situation. Very gritty. I really liked the look, and I watched it in 3d.

I read her back story and wasn't a thing romantic about the situation at all, but I guess someone felt 'he' needed defending even though she got the thumbscrews. I guess I should have read why Roger gave it his thumbs up. The movie was pretty to look at though, great costuming.

Were you shocked that souls could sell for as little as $5,000 these days? I thought for sure Vincent Gallo would have paid more lol

You are spoiling the movie! hammer lol

I'm guessing because Marion was a relative nobody in the art world, her agent did not want to price her soul too high. And then when there were no buyers early on, they panicked and lowered the price to $5,000. hmmm

Edit: My personal Vincent Gallo story--I followed him into a PJ Harvey gig awhile back (this was after they had broken up so he was with some model) and from the floor, I could see him in his VIP box. The dude did not clap once the entire night. confused So he seems like the type of person to buy a soul for as cheap as he could get it. lol

[Edited 9/14/12 11:13am]

....but I didn't say who sold their soul!!!! lurking lol

I have the weekend to myself to luxuriate in "faux-single-girl" domestic bliss cloud9 : that is going to translate into glasses of prosecco, some fancy chocolate cake, and stuff like this that I just finished watching 5 minutes ago

the ultimate in 1960's "Sin In the Suburbs" cinamtic cheeze : a B-Movie alternative to mainstream films about middle class supression like Peyton Place, Splendor in the Grass, or the Barbara Eden comedy "Harper Valley PTA".

4 star star star star / 5 for the acting in which all the cheesy actresses speak in a delightfully horrid monotone with no flow (that's a good thing in this case nod ), a few cute outfits, and awesome 1960's brassieres girdles, and panties that looks like Playtex 18-Hour underwear on (female) steroids. I should hve been drinking a scotch& soda when I was watching this lol

I enjoyed this. Never boring, I really liked the twist (I thought it was a twist on the usual).

There was a couple of logic issues but well done. At least they took it seriously.

I got worried just a bit past the beginning, to me it felt a little cheesy. Then it changed. The realism was a pleasant surprise, none of the clips or trailers I saw beforehand gave it away. I thought everyone fit their characters prefectly. I'm seeing it again.

Adam's Apples 3.5/5 A black comedy. Hilarious. The expressions on Adam's face were priceless, I know he felt he was dropped in the middle of the twilight zone
