It is! The only reason I've been twice in the same week last month was with free tickets. For my family of 5 it costs us $75 (more for a 3D film) nutty
How many bluray DVDs can we rent for that amount? 24+

There's simply no way to recreate some movies in a home theater the way you experience an IMAX.

I saw Prometheus and The Dark Knight on opening day in the Metreon IMAX cuz my work rented out the theater. I would not have changed that.

Also saw Ted and that was awesome even though it was on my dime. smile

I don't have kids and am not a shut-in or too crotchety to spend 15 bucks on myself for a night out. lol. I also don't have the urge to splurge on food during a movie as I despise hearing people crackle, crunch, and slurp through each scene.

Also, if your kid is too young for a movie, stick that thing in the oven or a closet or tie it to a post outside the theater. Don't bring it to the movies.

Right, and director Peter Jackson is now going to film a trilogy about The Hobbit.

It is already done-It's just being redone (editing wise) to make 3 movies out of the Hobbit.

They actually check the snack thing in some cinemas? That is harsh! We've always smuggled stuff and I've never seen staff checking. If they ever did, they'd get an earful from me about their ridiculous prices!!! £2.50 for a large lemonade? You can stuff that up your odeon!!

Three movies doesn't make sense to me. I just finished reading 'The Hobbit' last night. My Houghton Mifflin paperback 4 book set, 'The Hobbit' runs 272 pages. 'The Fellowship of the Ring' is 398 pages and that was one movie. 'The Two Towers is well over 300 pages also, and again one movie, so I am very suprised this is a trilogy. That ruins it. What- A whole movie in Mirkwood? The last one has to be the Battle of Five Armies and going home. Dullsville after the battle cinematically. Just traveling the same road again.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I really like the IMAX out in Dublin, too. I've never been to the Emeryville theater, though. My one gripe with the Metreon IMAX is that the seats feel like... I dunno, not modern. Its like they were ripped out of an old theater after decades of Rocky Horror showings and plopped into an IMAX. The screen and sound is unparalleled though.

I said you can't reproduce the IMAX experience at home. I referenced the Metreon IMAX. Know how much that set up is? Including the car-sized IMAX projector? About 100,000 dollars. Trust, nobody is reproducing an IMAX presentation at home. Especially when the IMAX Metreon screen is taller than the tallest wall in most folks' homes.

Interesting. So the 20 plus people that I KNOW personally with IMAX quality setup don't exist?

Every once in a while, you become indistinguishable from folks like, say, RodeoSchro or laurarichardson.

Just an observation.

IMAX isn't a quality standard. It is a filming/projection standard.

You personally know 20 people with, what 60' screens at home to show IMAX movies on?

You can show IMAX movies on televisions but that's not what IMAX is for.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
