Buffets tend to be all you can eat, but I don't think they actually mean the same thing. You could have a sit down dinner that served you all you can eat, or a buffet that only allows you to get a single plate.
So you are saying both are buffets which I initially thought they were, there is no difference but people make it look as if they are not.
Pizza Hut have buffets and so does lotta asian cheap eateries... but i have not seen sushi buffets anywhere.
The two Asian buffets that I've been to here (on Long Island) had "sushi" (meaning California rolls and tuna rolls & such).
There is a place (that I mentioned above) called "Minado" that is supposed to have full-blown sushi & sashimi offered buffet-style all-you-can-eat. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory! |

No, buffet means you stand in line and grab food yourself like at a salad bar.
I have had buffet sushi. It sounds like a terrible idea, but it was just fine |

Around here, a "buffet" typically means you grab a plate, fill it with as much stuff as you can, then repeat as often as you can.
"All you can eat" is typically a sit-down and the server brings you additional servings. Portuguese/Brazilian "Churrasquerias" are famous for that around here...they come around putting meat on your plate as long as you have a flag or something on your table indicating that you want more.
Here both are the same. usually at most all you can eat places there is no server.
I am not sure what PurpleJedi is looking for...with kids I sugest all you can eat is what it is....but I read a buffet? Maybe they wanna play with shrimps

No...I'm looking for a "buffet" (around here "all you can eat" signifies a waiter/server) with good-quality seafood that doesn't cost a fortune.
In Myrtle Beach.

Those cheap eateries are just shit. I used to go to Pizza Hut a lot cause of their salad buffet, and I ended up paying a littles less than I would have for shit food.
I used to have like 9 eggs or so every time. Prince I will always miss and love U. |

Nero and Caligula were infamous madmen, but the petals thing was the work of a lesser-known but equally deranged (teen) Emperor of the 3rd Century: Heliogabalus

Remember when they use to be called smorgasbords? I guess that's when we were trying to make it sound classy.
Okay, maybe that was only in my neck of the woods. We went to smorgasbords when I was a kid and wasn't a thing swedish about them, except for being what is now called an all you can eat buffet. Of course we do have at least one official swedish smorgasbord I know of, never been there though. |

I honestly was going to say 'No' because the first buffet I've ever went to was Old Country Buffet somewhere in Virginia and it wasn't all that good. But then I saw the light and thought about this...........

You're thinking of a cafeteria, not a buffet.
At a cafeteria, your food is served by an employee. But a buffet, you the customer serve your own food. There's no telling who coughs on the serving utensils, or sprays spittle on them while talking to their wife about how much food they're spooning onto their plate.
I'm fine with cafeterias. I won't eat at buffets.
Sorry to have to break it to you but there's no telling who coughs and spittles on your food, no matter where you eat unless you've got your own farm and you grow and raise your own food. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart. |
