BATH SALTS AIN'T DONE SHIT It wasn't bath salts. According to a full toxicology report released Wednesday afternoon by the Miami-Dade medical examiner, the only drug detected in the lifeless body of infamous Miami face-chewer Rudy Eugene was marijuana. "The department's toxicology laboratory has identified the active components of marijuana," the medical examiner said in a statement, according to NBC Miami. "The laboratory has tested for but not detected any other street drugs, alcohol or prescription drugs...This includes cocaine, LSD, amphetamines (Extasy, Meth and others), phencyclidine (PCP or Angel Dust), heroin, oxycodone, Xanax, synthetic marijuana (Spice), and many other similar compounds." CBS Miami reports that the medical examiner's office sought the assistance of an "outside forensic toxicology reference laboratory" to help confirm the absence of common ingredients of bath salts, a synthetic amphetamine cocktail blamed in several recent incidents that bear some similarity to Eugene's attack. "Within the limits of current technology by both laboratories," stated a press release from Medical Examiner Dr. Bruce Hyma, "marijuana is the only drug identified in the body of Mr. Rudy Eugene." The report did not address previously reported autopsy findings of what appeared to be undigested pills in Eugene's stomach, according to the Miami Herald, and an expert told the Associate Press marijuana alone was not likely to cause such an attack. "The problem today is that there is an almost an infinite number of chemical substances out there that can trigger unusual behavior," said Dr. Bruce Goldberger, Professor and Director of Toxicology at the University of Florida. The medical examiner's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Eugene, 31, was widely speculated to have been on some form of synthetic drugs or suffering a drug-induced psychosis the afternoon of May 26 when he stripped naked and brutally attacked homeless resident Ronald Poppo in broad daylight along Miami's busy MacArthur Causeway, chewing and ripping off roughly half of the older man's face. A police officer responding to multiple 911 calls shot and killed Eugene as he crouched over Poppo, reportedly refusing to stop the gruesome assault by growling at the officer w... his mouth. The 18-minute attack and its aftermath were captured on surveillance ...ing garage, but it is still unknown what prompted Eugene to commit such a horrific crime. According to Local10, the former North Miami Beach High School football player was once diagnosed as schizophrenic after an arrest, but authorities are not sure if he ever sought treatment. Records show Eugene had been arrested 8 times since the age of 16, including 4 instances involving marijuana. But though he was once accused of threatening to kill his mother, friends and family members alike say they never expected such violence from Eugene, who was participating in a Bible ...ng friends he wanted to stop smoking marijuana. "There's no answer for it, not really," Eugene's younger brother,...old the AP. "Anybody who knew him knows this wasn't the person we knew him to be. Whatever triggered him, there is no answer for this." Poppo, meanwhile, is doing "well," according t...uma Center. The 65-year-old has lost one eye, is missing his nose, and faces a string of surgeries to repair his wounds and reconstruct his face. "We have mental health professionals to help him with the coping, and he's coping remarkably well," said plastic surgeon Dr. Wrood Kassira. This is a developing story.

How the hell did they come to the assumption that dude was on bath salts/LSD, then??? surviving on the thought of loving you, it's just like the water
I ain't felt this way in years...

Well we got a new type of profiling. DRUG PROFILING.
And I bet all those other cases that it was claimed that bath salts were the cause would actually find no case. Man people are STUPID in 2012. Even after a while when these stories kept popping up, I stopped believing in the stories.

Nah man, he was on some shit. It says they can't test for a lot of synthetic substances and that the only thing found that they can test for is marijuana. That guy was on somethin' else.
Cerebus is not a conspiracy theorist, either - in fact, he hates that shit. But this is reading like some serious anti-marijuana legalization propoganda to Cerebus. Anybody who has ever smoked some damn weed knows dude didn't just get high and eat off somebodies face.

LOL maybe I'm wrong but something had to be mentally wrong here. But there ain't no chance in hell weed is gonna be legalized anyway even without this crazy ass story...

I don't gamble, but I totally disagree with you. It will be seriously decriminalized, if not outright legalized, in our lifetimes. There just needs to be one more change over in the highest government ranks, then it will happen. There's too much money to be made and too little proof that it actually causes any harm/crime beyond those involving it being imported from other countries.
Edit: The point of not gambling is that I would bet you. Duh.

LOL I feel ya though... maybe it'll be decriminalized in some form. Until then you could always excuse it for medicine, which technically that's what it is. But again for dude to eat dude's face off, something was wrong with his brain.

I agree with Cerebus on this... there are so many designer drugs being manufactured law enforcement isn't keeping up, I would lean towards something chemical. Even so... Sometimes the unthinkable has nothing to do with a chemical substance nor mental illness... it's just evil.

Yeah, he was high as a mother fucker on some shit they couldn't test for. Read how that guy was acting/reacted - that wasn't just a mental problem. And if it was, weed would probably have made him all chill about shit anyway.
Cerebus knows nothing about medical marijuana cards. Not about how to get one, how much weed you can buy each day, how much food you can buy each day, how many plants you can grow in your home, none of that! Nope.

That shit reminded me of what Martin Lawrence once said about smoking some weed the day he went crazy and started acting a fool in Ventura Blvd. in L.A. and doctors couldn't locate the shit and he still had no idea what he was sold.

^^ Oh yeah and Timmy don't know shit about that either since I'm sober.

I can get down with that, and in all seriousness, I understand what Timmy is saying about mental illness, too. But this dude was way, way out there. And his behavior matches a lot of what goes on when people are on really bad drug trips. Getting too hot so you take your clothes off, ignoring orders from others even when your own safety is involved (like, guns pointed at you), eating peoples faces... oh.. wait... not that one...

Exactly.
Some folks try it because as drug designers keep changing the compound of the drug to skirt the law, they are legally able to label the drug as something completely harmless and next thing you know you have some unwitting person trying it for a leisurely good time.
Another lure of trying bath salts is that they don't show up in the system for drug testing, so folks (maybe not the dude in question) under that kind of restriction are being tempted to try it recreationally to relax. The only problem is, after the initial euphoria, the psychotic episodes come into play. Bath salts has been rumored to be making it's way into the military (because after all, as stressy as that job is, can you blame a soldier for needing a release and wanting to kick back on his free time?)- but you can imagine, as drug testing is strictly enforced, folks want to enjoy something that is technically legal and end up trying this stuff not knowing how dangerous it really is. This drug had its' origins in Europe but made its way into the US; part if me does wonder if it's only a matter of time until we see increased military use with it due to,
1. Its' increasing availbaility 2. Its' low cost 3. How the dealers and designers are able to skirt the law by cutting the drug in different ways, and the fact that it doesn't show up readily in a person's system
In any event I think it's pretty foolhardy to downplay the danger of this bath salts, regardless of why old dude was in the mood for a Jowl Sandwich on the Causeway.
Actually, even though they could only find Mary J. his system, I think anyone that has any familiarity with that substance knows that it makes you hungry, happy, then sleepy, and not a raging psychopath. I mean, have you ever seen a person smoke weed and not want to just sit on their asses, listen to music ,and start a verbal dissertation on the meaning of life? All that eating people and breaking hospital handcuffs takes too much energy for a pot head; you gotta sit them down on a plush sofa and let them follow music scales, & eat some rich food with some Oreos or somethin...

The fact that he wasn't on drugs does not make him mentally ill to have done what he did. Aberrant behavior is not always mental illness. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

You mean nationwide? It's already legal in a lot of states. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

PCP is one of those drugs that will always frighten me... it sounds like it can really FUCK you up.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Pretty much anything labeled as a Schedule I or Schedule II drug can really fuck you up. Some of them can really fuck you up from one use (PCP and "Bath Salts" clearly fall into this category). Some of them fuck you up over time, particularly if they're abused (some IIIs and IVs won't do you any good that way, either).
And then there's weed, which is basically harmless, has almost no crime associated with it (accidents, deaths, etc.) beyond the fact that selling it is illegal. But it's still classified as a Schedule I drug, keeping our prisons overflowing with non-violent criminals. Fuck you Dow!
