It's better to decrease caloric intake in steps of 500 kcals, most of which should come from consuming less cabs.

Difficult to measure shit like that all the time.

Half of your normal portion is a better rule of thumb.

No it's not and if you're serious about losing weight you need to count calories. Even better, count how much fat, carbs and protein you eat on an average day.

But people are lazy and that's why very few people get the results they were hoping for.

Low-Fat Salad Dressing Isn't Necessarily The Healthiest Option, Purdue Study Shows

What could be healthier than a salad? The raw vegetables and fruits that comprise the foundation of any healthful bowl are chock-full of vitamins, nutrients, fiber and water -- all things your body needs to function optimally. And while you might think you're doing yourself a favor by adding a low- or no-fat dressing atop your pile of leafy greens, the truth is that these diet options may be preventing you from getting the full benefit of many of the nutrients that make salad such a good choice

One thing you will never find in my house is bottled dressing. It's so easy to make your own - and much healthier.

Today, my salad dressing is a homemade buttermilk ranch. Buttermilk, mayo, a little Lakeshore Drive seasoning from The Spice House, fresh thyme (French and lemon), lemon basil and chives.

me neither, and I never EVER put any sugar in my dressing confuse

I'm the mistake you wanna make

I can lose weight pretty fast but I´ve been under enormous stress these days and didn´t really care. But I will go to the gym in a few minutes. Haven´t been there for 9 days!

Cycling (to the gym), a tough workout plus a visit to the steam room. Can´t wait to get there. wink

As far as weight loss is concerned, avoiding sugars and simple carbs has always helped me to get rid of body fat very quickly. And sleep is also important.

It goes without saying that exercise is very crucial, too.

Kool, you should take a look at Dr. Layne Norton's weight-training regimen. Mine's based on this, and it's done wonders for me.

Drink lots of water, aim for (64oz)

Fruits- Any fruit but like if eating a banana eat half of it because one is two portions, eat a small amount of grapes and pineapples. Try to watch the fruits high in sugar and eat them in moderation

Veggies- All but try to eat green veggies like greens, cabbage, lettuce

Protein- Baked/Grilled/Broiled- Chicken, Fish, Beef, nuts, boiled egg (but dont eat to much of them because the yoke is high in fat, eat 1 a day with yoke but without yoke its okay wink ) Protein shakes (but I recommend make your own the ones already made have alot of sugar in them)

Fiber- Whole Wheat Breads, Crackers, Cereal, Granola

Try to eat small meals, 5 or 6 through out the day to keep your metabolism going...

Some form of Exercise for 20 or 30 minutes 5 times a week and this can be as simple as walking.

This is better said than done lol Its hard when your trying to work out again this is what Im facing now lol razz

Good luck. I'm telling you, if you follow Dr. Norton's workout, you should see results within 5-6 weeks. I got a lot leaner and stronger using it.

This is a myth. There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating whole eggs. The yolk has most of the nutrition - including fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K; zinc, calcium and folate; and plenty of good fat. Eating the yolks while runny (or even raw) is the best, nutritionally. I put raw egg yolks in smoothies all the time.

Egg whites by themselves are disgusting. barf

white rice is crap - completely devoid of any goodness, stripped to starch and sugar. Even brown rice is better - or preferred Wild Rice.

Personally, I don't think eggs are as good for you as they USED to be. Chicken feed and hormones.

Eat less and skip meat, go for a proper run at least four times a week (at least one hour of running), do other sports at least once a week, have lots of sex.

I promise you it'll work. You're just not allowed to be lazy.

I have lost around 50 lbs without a real diet program over a period of about 15 months.

I cut out white starches, rice, pasta, bread, potatoes etc.

Try not to buy sweets or bring sweets into the house. Buy a great cookie from the bakery department vs buying a bag of cookies.

I do best when I weigh myself on a daily basis. It forces me to be truthful about just how much I am eating.

Limit salt intake.

I noticed that when I eat chicken I don't loose weight so I try to stay away from all but the leanest pieces.

I read that weight watchers now says that fruits and vegetables have zero points. I also try to have plenty on hand.

After 3pm I begin to eat less and less. I don't eat a real meal just a little of this or that.

Movement movement movement!!!

Several things kicked it off for me, I live in a mostly white neighborhood and I decided to have a double dutch clinic because I felt my kids were missing some of my childhood joys and rites of passage. So I invited a few of my girls friends over to introduce them to double dutch. Well once they got the hang of it all they wanted to do was jump not turn-- even though turning rope is a skill itself. Well doing that for an hour at a pop got a girls arms working big time LOL.

I also introduced my girls to the local bus line to the mall, here where we live when you take the bus there a little bit of walking involved. Not a lot but enough to get your heart rate up. Add that to walking about in and around the mall the calories spent add up.

My youngest didn't get the double dutch with the older kids so I introduced her to hoola hooping, and of course I have to show her first, and that has done wonders to my waistline!! woot!

I live four houses down from my daughter's elementary school which has a tennis court that is NEVER used, so my kids and I get over there and play every morning. Chasing those balls down will burn some calories.

Lastly I recently purchased bikes for myself and my children, we ride them to the local strip mall and have a blast riding, socializing, and walking around. Luckily we live close enough to ride and if we get tired mass transit is bike friendly and we can bus it home, bikes in tow!

I'm a bread whore so I make better choices in the bread I eat, (whole grain), and control my portions, I've given up mayonaise and sub plain greek yogurt if the yogurt isn't a good subsitute then I incorporate mustard or go without.

Bread, salty snacks, fried foods, mayonaise, and pasta are my down falls so I watch and contol my portions!

I'm also a rum & coke whore so I watch that too!

My new lifestyle was to address my depression but it's helped me in my weight loss and it has done WONDERS in all aspects of my life!

Best wishes and I hope you find the right solution to your weight loss journey!

Terrible advice. If people are fat, it is not because they're eating meat. And if you cut your protein, the chances are greater that the weight you'll lose is muscle - which means you won't be able to maintain whatever weight loss you achieve. This is what makes yo-yo dieters fatter and fatter over time.

You are right about the importance of Protein.

The trick is getting lean proteins and not over-indulging.

Those of us who have been fat have a huge issue with portion size.

Cinny mentioned earlier about the impracticality of weighing things out. You don't need to weigh things out each time. What you need to do is become familiar with what 4oz of meat looks like or half a cup of cereal etc.

Raw vegetablea are the one area where I don't have to be so careful.

Where did I say anyone was fat because they were eating meat? The not eating meat advice is more about the psychological attitude and approach to food. It's not just about nutrition, it's also about aesthetics and actually realising what we're eating. When people learn how to make a distinction between meat and veggie stuff they will automatically notice how soakingly fat some of the meaty shit they eat is.

Plus, if you really wanna talk about proteins, there's loads of other, more healthy options of protein intake than only meat... but, like I said, I wasn't talking about that.

And this has worked for me so far. My parents certainly aren't skinny and neither were my grandparents (in fact, most of them showed signs of slight overweight in their youth already), so something about my diet and sport schedule must be right. My blood values are top notch, too. shrug

Honey, you are what - 20 years old? Almost anything works for a 20-year-old male metablism.

Your grandparents lived through a war and/or its aftermath. I think it's safe to say that their diets weren't optimal. And your parents are middle-aged. Call me in 20 years and let me know how you're doin'.

eat kiwi, has more potassium than banana, more vitamin c than citrus fruits.

i am on a lentils diet now, i realised i liked whole lentils and i eat it on bread and in rice. has heaps of fiber which keeps you full longer, and protein, it doesn't make you fart.

i wonder why healthy food, like pomgrante juice, blueberries and avocados are so expensive.

eat apple, i don't like eating apples but their skin is good for you too mostly.

I track everything I eat (weigh and measure all of my food, eyeball it when I'm eating out) and all of my exercise to ensure I'm burning more calories than I'm taking in. It's as simple as that.

I think this is where a lot of people fail. For most ppl trying to lose weight, it is very important that you weigh out your food. Unless you have been doing it for years and have become a pro at "eyeballing", too often people either under-estimate or over-estimate what they are eating. Over-estimating and not getting enough calories is just as bad as eating too many calories. It will throw your body into a complete tizzy.

Actually, not even celery. There's no such thing as a negative calorie food - except water, which isn't a food.

From Wikipedia:
While this concept is popular in dieting guides, there is no scientific evidence that any of the foods claimed as negative calorie foods are such.[1][2] Foods that are claimed to be negative in calories are mostly low-calorie fruits and vegetables such as grapefruit, lemon, lime, apple, lettuce, celery, broccoli and cabbage.[3]Celery, a commonly cited negative calorie food, actually requires only about 10% of its food energy content to be digested (due to the thermic effect)
