stay away from all foods white. Milk, cream, sour cream, white flour, white sugar, potatoes, eggs, white rice, butter & cheese (which is basically white with color), mayo, creamy salad dressings, creamy soups...

Well, that's no fun.

Most of the stuff I eat is white and or creamy.

Why stay away from eggs? Whole eggs are amazing! Nothing wrong with potatoes and rice either, just don't eat a lot of those if you sit on your ass all day.

The 4 things that made me loose the most weight in my life were

1. growing up (as a child I was kinda fat)

2. food poisoning

3. stopped taking the pill

4. emotional stress

So the only thing of those that might actually be helpful to anybody else is to reconsider taking the pill because I had no idea it had affected my weight. It happened really slowly over the years, so I blamed it on my getting older.

With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Good old fashioned eat less, move more.

I successfully lost 50 pounds a few years ago and maintained it (for the most part) for nearly 3 years. I'd regain now and again and as soon as my clothes would feel tight I'd get back at it till I was down to where I was. I'm now working on losing the rest (& I'd gained a bit back as it was one of those times my clothes were tight). So this time I'm down 23.4 pounds. And a clothing size. Feeling pretty good right now, but still want to lose 20-30 more.

I track everything I eat (weigh and measure all of my food, eyeball it when I'm eating out) and all of my exercise to ensure I'm burning more calories than I'm taking in. It's as simple as that.

I eat pretty darm healthy so that I get the most of my lower calorie diet too.

That's the only "secret" I know of.

This is huge, I think. Buy something with a fixed (non-elastic) waistband - and wash them from time to time, so they aren't stretched out.

The pants don't lie.

I will agree, this was my "secret" to maintaining. If my pants or certain dresses started to get tight that was it, time to go back to tracking what I ate again.

I've kept myself under 180 for about two years. At my post-quitting smoking heaviest (about five years ago) I peaked at around 230. I just move a lot. I do a brisk walk for about an hour & a half first thing in the morning, two 15 minute walks during the day and another hour or so after work. I used to jump rope a fair bit, but I got a little burnt out on that and dropped it from my routine about a year ago. I tried jogging for a while, but found my middle-aged knees didn't like it very much. All that walking does get a little tedious at times, but it has allowed me to listen to a lot of podcasts and audio books. Other than limiting carbs, prepared foods and junk food, I don't obsess over my diet too much - no counting or restricting calories. Personal experience has taught me that is a losing battle, at least for me.

I have never used a fad diet to lose weight.

Since Sept I have dropped 3 sizes, not sure how. Just try to eat healthy, cut out dairy except a splash of half & half in my coffee. We rarely of ever have fried foods. I try to limit rice and pasta and have lots of veggies for dinner. I try to stay active playing with my toddler outside doing sports and I try to use my treadmill 5 times a week.

My weight has always flucutated due to anxiety and stress. I have never been overweight but have been an uncomfortable size for me and my frame.

I find the days that I do my treadmill I am very careful about what I eat. I know how many calories I have burned and I want to make every calorie I take worth it.

I tried lowcarb, and i HATED it and it made me depressed fit

I tried counting calories, which almost drove me crazy flyingpig

I`ve lost a few pounds the last month, my secret is PORTION CONTROL and long walks several times a week (i hate the gym, only go there to look at the other guys in the shower).

For me, this is the best way to go.

Luckily I've never had to lose weight. I actually struggle to keep it on.

Want to loose weight? Go and work out 3 - 4 times a week, avoid crappy refined food, eat only three meals a day.

Don't eat carbs for dinner and get enough rest.

Btw; want some really good carbs? Eat lentils!

Oh, and avoid the so called diet/light products, all crap with loads of hidden sugars in them.

What this thread tells me (and what makes sense) is that different things work for different people. Try what you want (within reason, make sure it's healthy) till you find what works for you.

For exercise this is key too. If you're miserable working out in a gym, find a team sport to play. If that's not your deal, try biking or running. If you dread it you won't keep up with it.

I need to change up my routine now and again or I get bored. I've done running, I've done classes at the gym, I've done regular gym workouts and so on. These days I'm biking to work 2-3 days a week (weather permitting), go for long bike rides and hikes on the weekends and after my vacation I'm going back to a yoga studio. Find what you like and do that. Or try something new.

Get diabetes. lol

Actually, when I got sick, I gave up fast food and soda cold turkey. I dropped a ton of weight with zero exercise. I dibble and dabble in fast food now and then but come July 1, I'm giving it up again.

I agree.

I've decided to get a stationary bike for home and to take swimming classes. I've been dreading it but am talking myself into looking forward to it or I'll never get the weight off.

Well said!! I get so tired of people saying there`s only one way to excercise. Running on a treadmille and lifting weights is not for everyone.

Genesia + lentils (or beans) = fart fart fart redface

I know they're good for you (and low glycemic), I just can't digest them. shrug

Getting adequate sleep is essential to losing/maintaining weight. I see so many people who are on a sleep poorly --> crave carbs --> eat carbs --> ride the insulin rollercoaster --> sleep poorly cycle. And they just get heavier and heavier.

And you will never see "lite" anything in my refrigerator or cupboard. What they have to put in those things to make them taste right is scary. You can't tell me that a little bit of full-fat mayo (which is a lot more satisfying - so you can eat less of it) is worse for you than that crap. hmph!

True story: A few years ago, there was this fad dessert called Better Than Sex Cake. Well, one day, a co-worker brought one in - and she'd made this already awful cake worse by making it fat free. disbelief

It was all I could do not to say, "Honey, if this is the kind of sex you're getting, I'm so very sorry." comfort

What made it worse is that I had no intention of even trying that mess, but she cut a piece, brought it over and put it on my desk so proudly, that I had no choice but to try it, at least.

It was one of the nastiest things I've ever put in my mouth. 100% devoid of flavor. disbelief

Exercise(4 days a week) and a common-sense approach to eating. I don't deny myself good foods, I just do it in moderation.
