Rotator Cuff Surgery

Anyone ever have this surgery. I'm going under the ol' knife Wed. I hope after surgery and rehab, I'm able to raise me left arm above me waist without pain. I'm having the open cuff procedure done; just call me righty. lol

I never opted for the surgery. I have torn my rotator cuff twice back 2003 & 2004.

Almost exactly a year apart.

I did physical theray each time. Luckily it was called an "almost partial complete tear" so I chose not to do the surgery.

I am sure the recovery is not going to be fun but either is not being to raise your arm to do things like wash your hair.

I hope you have a good speedy recover!

I haven't - but my mother's had surgery on both shoulders for tendonitis/frozen shoulders. The first one was pretty bad - she had bone spurs on the ball of the joint that actually tore her rotator cuff. And it was sufficiently long ago that they weren't doing arthroscopic surgeries - she actually had a full-on incision. I remember one of my sisters taking her to the salon a couple days after her surgery so she could get her hair washed. Her dirty hair was driving her crazy and she wasn't able to shower yet. (And wouldn't have been able to wash her own hair, in any case.) And the recovery was pretty substantial.

The other shoulder wasn't nearly as big a deal. That shoulder wasn't as damaged as the first and the surgery arthroscopic, so she healed a lot quicker. (It happened about 10 years after her first surgery.)

Both shoulders are fine now.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
