What would you do? Yesterday a coworker of mine, who is new and still learning the job/people/etc, found a candy bar in with films that were brought to our department.
The man that brings the films does so everyday. He's been here for years. He's not a pleasant guy, but he comes in, drops off films and leaves.
My coworker thinks it's nice and rather out of character for the guy to leave her a candy bar, but she and my boss ate it and enjoyed it.
The guy comes in today, doesn't say anything and my cowork says, "Hey thanks for the candy bar! It was really yummy and really made my day."
Later, she calls him on the phone about business, thanks him again and he says, "Actually, a friend had given me that candy bar for my birthday and I had been saving it."
All my co-workers think it's just the rudest thing and have been having a laugh over it.
It's been all the talk today. Yeah, what a job eh?
What would you have done? Would you have eaten the candy bar? Would you have said "It was mine" or just "Glad you enjoyed it?" I'm firmly planted in denial

Its not like he handed it to them, why would they think it was okay to eat it or that it was even meant for them? Rhythm floods my heart♥The melody it feeds my soul

Just buy him a new one.
If I were them, I would have apologized and bought him a new one and stuck a bow on it....
and warn him that next time he shouldn't leave his birthday gifts lying around a bunch of chocoholics.

I would not eat the candy bar. I would have left it in with the films. I would just keep my mouth shut and my eyes and ears open and go on about my job. Good Answer, Good Answer as the late Richard Dawson would say
The situation is a bit blown out of proportion since we are talking of a candy bar and not a mug, watch, journal etc. However once the guy seemed a bit bummed that he left the candybar accidentally in a delivery, I think just replacing it with a "you made my day with a suprise candybar and here is hoping I can make yours all better again" should be plenty.

Interesting to read that Nothingbutjoy thinks it was the guy who was rude, when in fact the co-worker who ate the choc was rude in my opinion.
He should have apologized and give him two, not one, choc bars back the next day. Prince I will always miss and love U.

Nothinbutjoy said the guy is unpleasant. My coworkers said he was rude about this incident. I've just been watching this all unfold. I'm more apt to agree with Deadflow3r that it's all been blown out of proportion. My boss & coworker who ate the candy bar are planning to replace it. I'm firmly planted in denial

Yes, some people are unpleasant, and he may even lied about his birthday, just to let the coworkers feel crap about it, but there is no harm giving his choc bar back really, i mean it's just a stupic choc bar after all. Prince I will always miss and love U.

Just buy a new one since obviously this irked him.
A normal person would've just said; "You're welcome!" instead making you feel bad.

I think it all really depends on what kind of candy bar it was...if it was just a snickers or hundred grand or summin...whatever....if it was a hershys special dark!
