Dallas 2.0 Anyone watching the premiere of Dallas this Wednesday night? It picks up about a little over 20 years since the last series ended, with the patriarch Ewing clan of Bobby, J.R., and Sue Ellen Ewing overseeing the South Forks empire with thier younger offspiring.
The series itself will focus on the younger members of the Ewing family, but members of the old cast will pop up in various episodes. Here is a sneak peek:
I'm not sure how this reboot will do in the ratings, but when this premiered in the late 1970's and ran through the 1980's, it was not only one of the biggest shows on television; it was a cultural phenomenon. The penultimate episode of the old series, "Who Shot J.R.?" is still ranked as the second most watched non-sports, non-awards show program in the history of television, beaten only by the series finale of M*A*S*H.

I'd actually prefer Baywatch 2.0
btw, I thought that the actor who played JR was dead, the last time I saw him was in 1995 (the Nixon movie, Oliver Stone)...

You missed the made-for-TV movies Dallas: JR Returns & Dallas: War Of The Ewings. Both were aired in the mid-1990s and both are available on DVD.

He hasn't been in the best health over the past years. I do believe he had a liver transplant a few years back.

That is so stupid airing it on cable. The original came on CBS so why not air the new one on CBS also? Oh, I forgot, they'd rather air some reality bullshit.
Oh well, if the focus is mainly on the kids that have grown up, it doesn't seem like it will be very interesting anyway. I'd like to tune in to see the premier episode with JR, Sue Ellen, and Bobby but once they leave the show, I'd probably lose interest. It just pisses me off though that they would air it on cable rather than CBS. Andy is a four letter word.

I've got the first three seasons of "Dallas" on DVD and Larry Hagman does commentary through one or two episodes. The season 3 DVDs also include a reunion of several of the cast members on a "Soap Net" show. Barbara Bel Gaddes (Miss Ellie) wasn't there but she was still alive at the time and they said she was very ill so it had to be before 2005 when she died. Andy is a four letter word.

Having Dallas on a cable network (TNT) is actually an advantage. The characters can used words that they can not use on CBS or any of the free access networks.
