I thought the same thing until I saw him in action. He's not pretty like Pierce Bronsan, but mmm mmm mmmmmm Daniel is I'm firmly planted in denial

I'm usually not hot for famous people, but Daniel is really something else. He's got sex written all over him.

The teaser trailer premieres next week. I have a feeling this movie will be a strong improvement over Bond's last outing, Quantum of Solace.

And YES - I think Daniel Craig plays a fantastic Bond.
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Agreed.... love the Bond franchise but Craig just seems like he plays himself - 'Daniel Craig' in many of the films he acts in. Clive Owen would have been ideal but think he turned it down. [Edited 5/18/12 11:25am]

That first one with Craig may just be my favorite Bond movie of all! My Legacy

I'm a big fan of James Bond movies. While I think Craig does a great job of being a convincing ladies man, I am not as convinced when I look into his eyes that he is smart enough to pull off the actual intelligence that Bond needs to have as a spy.
Daniel - Pretty to look at, but he seems kind of dumb.
Connery will always be my favorite.

Craig's James Bond is featured on the cover of the new issue of Empire.

Is this story still based on one of Ian Fleming´s stories, or do they write new stories now because they have run out of original Fleming material?
I´m not a big fan of James Bond movies...I used to be when I was a kid but now I question the whole idea behind it, the machismo, the misogyny, the smartassery, the arrogant Western attitude behind it...but, especially with that criticism in mind, I guess Daniel Craig is the best Bond ever and he is very up to date and contemporary and brings some much needed new flavor to the franchise. The old Bond was played out and anachronistic. A dinosaur that rightfully belongs to the past and a century that´s over. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

a drawing of Bond made in the 50s, which Fleming approved
Craig looks reasonably similar, the only one that didn't look the part was Moore, c'mon; Connery, Craig, Dalton, Brosnan, and even Lazenby (in that order) all looked the part [Edited 5/27/12 11:45am]

Layer Cake, filmed at least two years before Casino Royale, made Daniel Craig work for me as Bond.
I also agree that Casino Royale is a great film. Although, truthfully, I think Quantum of Solace gets more shit than it deserves. It just needed a bit less shaky cam and quick edits during the action scenes.
Lastly, yeah, I think Craig is a good bond. I definitely put him above Moore and Dalton (who probably deserved another chance), but maybe below Connery and Brosnan. I know a lot of people put him above Brosnan, but I really dug his Bond movies. Those were the Bond movies I first go into as new movies, not just watching them because they were "cool old Bond movies".

Daniel Craig makes my testicles do jumping jacks. He's so damn sexy.

the tragedy of the "Brosnan era" is that while Pierce was improving his performance as Bond with each passing film, the producers/writers gave him increasingly lazy/dull material which didn't make him justice; it was a downward spiral, really...
I remember watching Die Another Day in the theaters and thinking that Pierce was delivering the best Bond performance ever seen since Thunderball when the f*cking invisible car/ice palace appeared and the movie (and the whole franchise) collapsed...even with the 450 millions of $ at box office At least we still have Goldeneye, by far the best action movie of the 90s, and still one of the top5-7 best Bond movies ever...and The World Is Not Enough could have been great, but the casting was a joke: Denise Richards???? Goldie???? what's next? the Spice Girls? lol Nothing to say about Tomorrow Never Dies, it's the "filler" of the Brosnan era, watchable, loud, forgettable, that's all...
and Quantum of Solace had a solid story (Bond against his own clueless gov and against the CIA, with no real allies, fighting a shady, nearly invisible enemy), but the editing/pacing was just TOO MUCH
Hopefully, the triumvirate of Mendes/Craig/Bardem will come up with something AMAZING

LOVE Goldeneye.
Yeah, totally agree about Denise Richards. She was even more terrible than normal in that one.
I have complete faith in Mendes, Craig and Bardem, but it's also got Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Judi Dench (most likely) giving her swan song as M (which may even involve her death).
I think the title is really interesting. It's not James Bond 007: Skyfall. Its SKYFALL, with a little ass 007 underneath it. I can't help but wonder if it literally relates to the sky falling.

the sky is falling!
damn, if the world truly ends in 12/2012 at least I wanna see Skyfall first,

James Bond running across the screen yelling, "the sky is falling, the sky is falling!"
No, I meant, like, literally relating to the metaphorical meaning, of course.
The world ain't endin'. Cerebus don't play that.

From IMDb...
"Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost."
Bond kills M?
From Wiki...
"The film's budget is estimated to be at $150 million,[2] down from the $200 million spent on Quantum of Solace."
Good.
From Wiki... LocationsSam Mendes and Barbara Broccoli travelled to South Africa for location scouting in April 2011.[50] With the film moving into pre-production in August, reports emerged that shooting would take place in India,[51] with scenes to be shot in the Sarojini Nagar district of New Delhi[52] and on railway lines between Goa and Ahmedabad.[53] The production crew faced complications in securing permission to close sections of the Konkan Railway.[54] Similar problems in obtaining filming permits were encountered by production crews for The Dark Knight Rises and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.[55] Permission was eventually granted to the Bond production crew, with some additional restrictions put in place at the request of the Indian authorities;[56] however, it was later reported that the production crew had elected not to shoot in India.[57] Further reports emerged stating that filming would take place in Istanbul's Sultanahmet Square,[58] the Hagia Sophia museum, the city of Fethiye and the Varda railway bridge near Adana,[59] with production expected to spend three months in the country.[60] Scenes in Adana will see the town stand in for the outskirts of Istanbul.[30] Mendes confirmed that China will be featured in the film, with shooting scheduled to take place in Shanghai and "other parts" of the country.[10] Additional scenes were filmed at Royal Ascot, standing in for Shanghai Pudong International Airport.[citation needed] The first official image from the film was released on 1 February 2012, showing Daniel Craig on set at Pinewood Studios, doubling as a skyscraper in Shanghai.[61] Set reports dated April 2012 reported that scenes would be set on Hashima Island, an abandoned island off the coast of Nagasaki, Japan.[62][63] Shooting was planned to take place at Duntrune Castle in Argyll, Scotland for the finale,[64] but was cancelled shortly after filming began.[65]Glencoe was instead chosen for filming of these scenes.[66]
Cerebus is not particularly pleased that shooting might have taken place in China. They're still a communist country with an ATTROCIOUS human rights records. But they're giving studios and film makers HUGE, GINOURMOUS kickbacks to film there.
From Wiki...
FilmingPrincipal photography was scheduled to take up 133 days.[48] Filming began on 7 November 2011[67][68] in and around London,[10][69] with scenes shot in Southwark and Whitehall, the National Gallery,[70]Smithfield meat markets and St Bartholomew's Hospital,[71]Canary Wharf,[72] the Department of Energy and Climate Change,[73]Charing Cross station and the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich,[74] with residents reporting further filming as taking place in Cadogan Square,[75]Tower Hill,[76] and Parliament Square.[77] The Vauxhall Bridge was closed to traffic for filming the aftermath of an explosion at the MI6 headquarters at Vauxhall Cross. Unlike The World Is Not Enough, which also featured an explosion at the building — which was filmed at a large-scale replica — the explosion in Skyfall will be added digitally in post-production.[78] Photos taken by residents in the city's Deptford district revealed the presence of an Aston Martin DB5 on location.[79] Production moved to Turkey in March of 2012, with filming reported to be continuing until 6 May.[80] A group of Turkish teenagers infiltrated a closed set in a railyard in Adana to film rehearsals of a fight scene on top of a train before being caught by security.[81] Parts of Istanbul — including the Spice Bazaar, Yeni Camii, the Imperial Post Office, Sultanahmet Square and the Grand Bazaar — were closed for filming in April.[80] Store owners in the affected areas were reportedly allowed to open their shops, but were not allowed to conduct business, instead being paid TRY750 (US$418) per day as compensation.[80] Production faced criticism for allegedly damaging buildings while filming a motorcycle chase across rooftops in the city. Michael G. Wilson denied these claims, pointing out that the film crew had removed sections of rooftops before filming began and replaced them with replicas for the duration of the shoot; when filming finished, the original rooftops would be restored.[82]
Motorcycle chase on rooftops? Count me in!

Interesting. Also from the Wiki page...
"Roger Deakins has signed on as cinematographer, having previously worked with Mendes on Jarhead and Revolutionary Road.[47] Deakins used the Arri Alexa camera for filming."
The Arri Alexa is a fully digital high resolution camera. Seems to have mostly been used for TV work until this year, where it was used to film a BUNCH of high budget movies, including The Avengers, Skyfall and World War Z.
Edit: I hate it when links don't work.

and ye, it's pretty obvious that M is gonna die/retire, one way or another, so obvious that it's already a semi-spoiler

I'm not sure where, and I probably won't be able to find it if I go look, but I believe it was actually announced that this would be Judi Dench's last go around as M. I mean, shit, she IS almost 80 years old. And it's not like she doesn't have plenty of other great roles coming her way. I LOVE her in the part, but it might be cool to see a younger, more active M (type character) in the future.

when Pierce Brosnan first hit american TV in "Remington Steele" I thought he would be perfect to portray Bond, especially after Timothy Dalton. I don't think Brosnan did justice to the role. He was too much a pretty boy. I've enjoyed Craig's portrayal of Bond, but Sean Connery is the ultimate Bond, imho.
can you say "mish moneypenny" like Connery? I think not.

I agree. He doesn't come off refined to me. Bond's supposed to be sophisticated and dangerous.
Mundane and dangerous just translates into thuggish to me.
