Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011) - A fisheries expert is approached by a consultant to help realize a sheik's vision of bringing the sport of fly-fishing to the desert and embarks on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible possible. It's always nice seeing Kristin Scott Thomas. star star star

Two best friends decide to have a child together while keeping their relationship platonic, so they can avoid the toll kids can take on romantic relationships.

Hmm I wanted to see that.

Anyway,

Dharm

3/5 A priest and his wife find their lives forever changed when they decide to adopt a baby left on their doorstep. When the child's mother shows up four years later and reveals that she's a Muslim, it prompts them to question their Hindu faith.

1911

2.5/5 good but too much info for just 2 hours, hard to keep up. In early 20th-century China, a man schooled in the ways of modern warfare returns from a stay in Japan to unite his splintering country. But going up against the well-armed Qing Dynasty presents a challenge of epic proportions.

The Artist. 2 stars.

My review off Facebook:

I just saw the movie The Artist with my friend Kirsten. We were in a movie theater alone. The movie was so much better because we got to make up dialogue as we went along. Why in the hell did this movie win Best Picture? GTFOOHWTBS.

21 jumpstreet Very funny-must see rental-Or if you are in the mood for a good comedy go to the movies. It's not a great film, But you will laugh-much better than Brides Maids IMO.

I have not seen this film. But it didn't seem to inviting. If I'm going to see a silent film Charlie Chaplin will be starring in it and it will be good.

I only saw it because it won Best Picture. My friend and I sat in the theater and had a regular conversation in our regular voices through the whole movie.

In order to complete the entire Madonna Sex era (Sex book, Erotica Albu, Body Of Evidence movie)

I decided to see Body of Evidence....

I don't any of the few Madonna movies I've seen have seen have been this bad. Basically imagine a bad actor acting bad.

The Artist was excellent. It's not just another silent movie. Pay no attention to Ivy, she hates everything. lol

I finally managed to watch Interiors by Woody Allen. I saw it when I was 17 or 18 and never managed to watch it again. I've had it on my HD for ages. However, it wasn't bad now that I focused a little bit more on it.

I give it three pineapples out of five pineapples.

My Week With Marilyn. 2 out of 5. Michelle Williams has this thing she does with her face that I can't see her as anyone else but Michelle. It's like George Clooney and his bobble head thing. Anyway, Jessica Chastain's character in The Help was more Marilyn Monroe-like to me. But, I don't know.

Battle Royale (2001) - Japanese flick about kids on an island who have three days to kill each other.

Looking for just one winner here.

Better than 'Hunger Games" as it mostly avoids the lapses in logic and reason mainly by keeping it simple.

Here the students are all member of the same class, they've known each other for years, not weeks.

1/2 stars out of 5

It's a very meloncholy story, with a some disturbing themes, but beautifully shot.

I just wish the main character seemed less....empty.

You never get a sense of what the reasons behind her fixation on her lover was

to make her see anythin in her son (if this makes no sense, you have to see the film).

But, it was so beautifully shot. And on such a low budget, I applaud the filmaker.

Sure, it's no Let Me In, but what movie could be?

Sorry ladies.

Marilyn-like yes, but not Marilyn.
I Lovvvvvvvvvvvvved Chastain in The Help but that Marilyn-type (if meant to portray her life) is a caricature. While "My Week" was not a great movie, William's portrayal was the best done on film so far. geek

Don't be Afraid of the Dark: 2 star of 5

Wow, that is NOT an attractive little girl. boxed

Carnage star star star

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: 2 1/2 star and 5 yawn

I really don't get all the love for this movie. I'm so glad Tilda Swinton is too old to have been cast in it (she would've been perfect for that type of role) because she's way too fierce for this yawnfest.

ANDDDD I even hung in there the 2 1/2 hrs waiting for the INEVITABLE "dolled up" scene (where you know the odd girl is gonna have to play some rich hot bitch)...and the bitch wasn't even that fierce. neutral

Hi, Johnart. After I watched "My Week" I went looking for footage of the real Marilyn Monroe to compare. For example:

I don't see Michelle Williams. I see Celia Foote. But now I want to watch the film again in the hope that I get it right the next time. smile

I thought it was pretty good. I'd say 4/5

Michelle was very good, too. She was not Jaime Foxx, but then I don't think a perfect impersonation is the most important thing for a great performance where you're playing a real person. That's not to knock what Jaime did, either. And that said, there were moments (particularly not close ups) where she used her body, where I did see Marilyn.

But beyond the performance, I thought the movie was fairly entertaining. I always like Kenneth Branagh. It made me want to see the actual movie that it is based on, even though that one really looked bad.

But Marilyn turned on "Marilyn" for the press. wink She was known to speak about her in the third person, even, in private. Michelle's fragility was spot on.
