If you're maculinity depends on the way you look, than there's not much masculinity in the first place. To me masculinity is more about the way you act than the way you look.

I would say I'm about 90% masculine & 10% metro.
If that makes sense. الحيوان النادلة ((((|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|)))) ...AND THAT'S THE WAY THE "TITTY" MILKS IT!

I don't understand the definition of metrosexual, but if it's only about grooming and not gender or sexuality...that seems shallow.

It is shallow! | |

Those kind of titles are usually pathetic ways of self-portayal, search for identity and making a statement for the sake of it.
Either you are, or you are not. What exactly it is you are is not really relevant, in my opinion.
I'm "masculine" because I have a penis, regardless of my body size, hair length, wardrobe etc.

coulda transman be masculine?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Like I said, I think it simply depends on the sex. Penis = masculine, vagina = feminine. The rest lies in the beauty of individuality, style and emotion and can not be classified by any terms, let alone "masculine" or "feminine".
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I don't know why there's such a term and why it's accepted. No one can just be themselves without being labeled as something?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I hate these stupid labels. How does one "lose their masculinity" because they like to stay clean and well groomed?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes and I hate it because it's harder to fiigure out who's available

Where I come from we just call that normal... I suppose their is a label for those who dont just as their is for those that do... ~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~

do u think prince is metrosexual?
I like to look nice but I won't be shaving my legs or using hairspray anytime ever. There are plenty of people who are completely clueless with their look. Then there are the obsessives that smell like perfume. It seems the metro look is more trying to fit in than any element of self expression. As in, its not much different than having to wear a suit and tie. And in that sense the conformity itself is undermining any kind of true masc/femm attribute. Real men and women don't dress or smell like a fashion ad.
I would say its more accurate that men don't lose masculinity by primping, they just never had it, or any self esteem, because their look is defined by advertising, not personal taste or expression.
Yes there are manly men who like to look and smell good without staring in the mirror for an hour each day. It's not more masculine to smell bad and be a slob. Self respect and taking care of your body are attributes of true masculinity, and femininity. People who dress bad are more in the ilk of children who can't take care of themselves. And people who obsess over their looks or more in the ilk of spoiled and shallow children who also have not grown up. Consider it a high school child phase that some never grow out of.
Like prince. I wonder who he really is. Under all that mess around in front of a mirror everyday. He's not much of an .. anything .. man woman gay guy .. if he can't come out from under the mask every once in a while .. but at least at times it is a form of his personal expression .. most of the time lately it seems more of an expression of his insecurity .. don't need to see him in blue jeans but the bea arthur frock and 2010 pj's aren't terribly interesting or attractive either

2 me the term metrosexual is more of a description than a label
and a bit of self grooming is great but some guys r over the top and self obsessed esp with hair removal ` which 2 me is odd cause i expect a man to have hair and not be over concerned about it.

No Dave...the term is "male".
You are a "male" when you have a penis and a "female" when you have a vagina.
You can be a "male" and NOT be "masculine".

One of the advantages of having a LANGUAGE is that we can DESCRIBE that which we see around us.
As an evolved society, we are beyond speaking in primitive terms; "food good" and instead we like to express ourselves with eloquence; "This roasted pork loin is tender and delicious."
So the "label" of metrosexual is really just another expressive term that we, as an advanced society, utilize to describe a man with a certain "look".
It's really not that big a deal. Seriously.

But that's exactly what's so stupid... What some people think is "masculine" might not be in other countries, cultures, religions and in 10 years time and that's why it's completely irrelevant. So why use such term to describe how a person looks or behaves? What is the conclusion and why do we use special terminology if there's nothing we can actually describe with it?
Long hair? Used to me very "masculine".
Make-up? Used to be what every proper man had to wear.
Jewellery? Is worn by some of the world's considered most "masculine" men.
Tits, however... are feminine, because they unmistakably indicate "female".
It's usually a play on pop culture. 100 years ago, drag queens would have looked completely different to now, just like they will 100 years from now.

OK, well I think that most people on this site are living in a "western" society, and most of us have a vague sense of what year we're living in, so I would dare to say that no one would consider RuPaul as being "masculine".
We use that description, and other descriptions (such as "metrosexual", "butch", "burly", "scrawny", "nerdy", "sexy", etc.) in the context of what our society today associates with those descriptions.
50 years ago I could say you were "gay" and people would understand that to mean that you are happy. 100 years from now, the term "gay" could mean something completely different. So yes, our concepts and our associations change. BUT we're living in the here-&-now.
It's really not a big deal.

I live in a "western" society too, but I'm sure we wouldn't agree on all things "masculine" and "feminine".
RuPaul is "feminine" because it is well known he is trying to appear feminine.
