I have had to be very honest with 3 or 4 men and tell them that I didn't feel as strongly about them as they did about me. It's very difficult to do and of course as a female you don't want to hurt their feelings. I had one man thank me for my honesty and he even asked if there was anything he could improve about himself. To which I was flabbergasted and I explained to him that while he was a truly sweet man he was more aggressive than what I was able to contend with. He took it very well and he visited me half a year later to say hello and to catch up. We were both young, in our early twenties and I think that may have helped him a little.

it's simple really... tell the boss guy...
tell him you're willing to go out with this lowly employee dork just to get close to him... say that you intend to use dorky for the sole purpose of winning his sexy self... you intend to string him along...but there'll be no physical contact.. say you don't usually do such horrible things but your desire has pushed you over the edge...

What was wrong with telling him the truth. It's not cool to mislead someone, although most do it out of trying to be politically correct or afraid. It takes practice but you can be honest and tactful. Now this guy has his hopes up on something he doesn't have a chance at. But then again you never know.
