You missed my point - which is that evolution is not a process that can be perceived while in progress. It happens over lengths of time longer than several human generations.

I can't see any measurable progress the last 5,000 plus years.

Why is it that fewer and fewer of your posts are based in reality? Of course the human race has evolved over 5,000 years.

We haven't sprouted wings or gills. Because as I stated above (a post which got ignored in favor of some bull-ish), it takes tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands+ for the kind of evolution you people are speaking of. Nevermind how many gene sequence iterations it takes. Do you know what a mutation is? Take a look at your opposable thumb. There's one. Put your hand on your tailbone. There's another one.

You aren't going to grow an extra limb and it's so typical of humans to obsess about these things. How young the human race is yet they are so self important.

I'd say the first noticeable way was how we grappled evolution and we now evolve on our own terms. If you were to say put a group of people on an island and they were living there for 200,000-300,000 years, its likely their gene sequence would augment to make them amphibious. As someone said earlier, we aren't going to be swimming too deep in the water because of atmospheric pressure. And atmospheric changes are a driving force behind mutations.

Since the industrial revolution, we have largely removed evolution from the hands of nature and put it in our own. Think the Polio cure, etc. People who were supposed to die from these natural causes now pass on their genes because they survived via manmade tools. This is why we have learned so fast and how technology multiplies so quickly. It is earned and passed on. If you were to have a frozen cavebaby from 5,000 years ago and somehow revived it and raised it as a human today, it would likely survive as a normal person would and become totally integrated.

The industrial revolution is the biggest human "evolution" today. As I said prior, if you are talking about things like gills and wings - our atmosphere has not changed to dictate such a mutation and were it to change that way it would take at the very minimum, upwards of 10 times as long as you are quantifying (5,000). It's like looking at your cat and wondering why it hasn't evolved yet. Well, duh, it hasn't been long enough to "measure" the kind of evolution you're referring to.

But to say we have not evolved in any way is kind of obvious. You're talking on a computer right now. That's an evolution from the sticks and stones your ancestors played with.

Whoa...that TOTALLY came out wrong. What I meant is that we ALL believe in the higher power that created us, regardless of what we call it or what we call ourselves. We all recognize that. Even Atheists. If they didn't recognize it, why would they spend so much time trying to prove it? We've never heard of a flying spaghetti monster, so no one is trying to prove that they don't exist. If you knew something didn't or doesn't exist, why would you waste time trying to prove it doesn't?

I'm an athiest and I don't believe in a higher power.

shrug

You have to recognize it to not believe in it. You can't not believe in nothing.

No...we will kill each other off and blow up the planet before we actually change....
