just curious, and I love the org's "movie threads"

title says it all...

in my case, it's funny because the 00's produced some of my fav movies of all time, but also A LOT of movies I just didn't give a damn about, unlike the '70s, '80s or '90s; perhaps I'm getting old, lol

in order

1.The Pianist

2.The Dark Knight

3.Gran Torino

4.Million Dollar Baby

5.Lord of the Rings trilogy

6.Gladiator

7.Casino Royale

8.SW III: Revenge of the Sith

9. Brokeback Mountain

10.Letters from Iwo Jima

11.Borat

12.Black Hawk Down

13.Kingdom of Heaven

14.Batman Begins

15.Apocalypto

Wow! I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciate that movie. In my opinion, one of the best war films I've watched since some war movies are too propaganda-like for my taste.

I love Letters From Iwo Jima too.
I like how it depicts Japan as a country that is in a war not just against the allies, but also in a war within itself (the then "new" methods of the technology vs. the revered ancients traditions towards it's own native land & emperor, not to mention against the obligational feelings towards one own family).
Deep shit for a genre that's been done to death by now.

Have you seen Brotherhood of the Wolf? It's a martial arts horror thriller mashup--big budget (for France) period piece epic. Think Sleepy Hollow meets Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

no. vut it sounds, at the very least, worth checking out, thanks smile wink

And Monica Belucci is naked in it.

No order

Royal Tennenbaums

The Departed

Whale Rider

(500) Days Of Summer

Sideways

Closer

The Dark Knight

Letters From Iwo Jima (very underrated film)

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers

Munich

Kill Bil: Vol. 1

The Lives Of Others

The Matrix Reloaded

O Brother, Where Art Thou?

I haven't seen The Royal Tennenbaums, (500) Days of Summer, and The Lives of Others.

(Own the bolded.)

Royal Tennenbaums is a true "love or hate" flick. But Gene Hackman was at his comedic best in that flick. Great performances all around.

(500) Days of Summer is the romantic comedy for people who hate romantic comedies. But Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel are great.

The Lives Of Others is simply a great movie all around. Set during the end of the Cold War and shortly thereafter, it is thematically similar to The Conversation. I think you'll enjoy it.

(500) Days of Summer would have made my list if not for the ending. Because of that, instead of loving the movie, I just like it a lot.

The Lives of Others is indeed great. Its Oscar for best foreign film was well-deserved.

I forgot three movies I really liked:

1. Courageous

2. Facing the Giants

3. Fireproof

So remove three of the "6 - 15" entries of "Alien Opponent" on my list and insert those movies.

Im pretty much a "popcorn movie" guy. I'll watch the artsy stuff if the subject interests me, but I'm pretty simple. In no particular order....

Pineapple Express (absolutely, positively the greatest stoner movie ever filmed)

Speed Racer (Hated the cartoon as a kid but my kids begged me to take them...they hated it, I loved it)

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (Ferrell at his finest)

Lord of the Rings (all three, but The Two Towers was the BEST nod )

King Kong (Kudos to Mr. Jackson. Just as good if not better than the LOTR trilogy)

SW Attack of the Clones (ridiculously bad at times, but from the moment Anakin and Padme arrived at Tatooine, that movie was the BOMB)

SW Revenge of the Sith (full of plot holes and missed opportunities, but I waited years to see the fall of the Jedi and was not disappointed)

The Dark Knight (THE GREATEST SUPERHERO MOVIE EVER)

Superman Returns (Anxiously awaiting The Man of Steel!)

Spiderman II (The first Spiderman film is one of the most overrated movies ever IMO...the sequel was fucking fantastic)

Star Trek reboot (they dumbed it down for mass consumption, but it was still awesome)

Transformers (When I heard they were doing this, I was terrified that they would screw it up...they didnt. The sequels on the other hand...)

50 First Dates (my favorite Adam Sandler movie)

Closer (I fell in love with Natalie Portman watching Attack of the Clones...I became obsessed with her after seeing Closer)

Where the Heart Is (see Closer comments)

Downfall (In those final days, why didnt Hitlers people just shoot him and surrender? This film answered...they loved him)
