I suffered from migraines when I was a kid.
My mom would treat me old-school;
She would take (unbrewed) coffee grinds and pour them into some beaten eggs, then take the mixture and spread it on a scarf that she'd place on my forehead. I'd lie in a dark room with the thing on my head for a while and the migraine would go away.
I'm thinking that the caffeine from the grinds somehow reacted with the eggs to penetrate the skin and do what Exedrin does in shorter amount of time. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

i used to get them from age 13-22 and they stopped in April 1994(long story)
nothing used to get rid of mine but time
If I took 2 exederine when i knew early that I would get them (that quick pain you feel on the right or left near your eye) then I would be ok most of the time, with coffee

I haven't had one in years now, but I used to get them from a particular brand of contraceptive pill I was on. Went off the pill and I never had one again (years later I'm now on a different brand and it's OK) a whore in sheep's clothing

i take otc migraine meds and Motrin or other OTC meds. I used to take some pretty heavy stuff but i stopped.
hot/cold/hot showers help a lot too! as does drinking plenty of water.
but after having them for 30 years I mostly ignore them. but mostly now i just get the optical effects and a little nausea.
if medical TCH was allowed where i live I might try it--sodas or cookies not smoked. and i have another condition that would make me qualified to have without question. [Edited 4/19/12 17:28pm] "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Whenever I get one, I drink a cup of ginger tea. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I've had migraines since I was about 13 or 14... thankfully not as frequently as you do... but I've had a lot of trouble controlling them with meds as I tend to have very high drug tolerences and after a while they stop working.
I currently take both propranolol and lamotrigine daily as preventatives. I just switched to the lamotrigine from keppra because I had a pretty bad time of it last fall and winter, but it seems to be doing ok so far. I took topomax for a long time... but it eventually gave me kidney stones... so look out for that.
When I get a headache I take midrin and dexamethasone... which is the only thing that seems to work for me. However, midrin is no longer mass produced, so you have to find a special pharmacy that can make it for you or get it special order.
I hope you can find something that works for you! Good Luck!

I take Tramadol... my migraines aren't as frequent as they use to be. Thank goodness.

I suffered terribly from migraines for quite sometime... the light hurt, I couldn't eat, I had to sleep sitting up because lying down made it worse... I was taking medication prescribed for me by the handful, it was just unimaginable. My x hub took me to the emergency room on several occasions because he couldn't stand seeing me suffer like I was. He was freaking pissed at the doctors for not fixing me and his anger was quite apparent... sick of hearing, "were doing everything we can" he kinda lost it for a minute and got all up in the docs face in a very threatening manner and in no uncertain terms told them that they needed to do something for me because they did not want to have him bring me back in. I'm like oh, damn... they are soooo gonna call the cops.... lol... and it would have probably been warranted, truth be told.... but they didn't. The next morning I had an appointment with some specialist who gave me some injections of cortisone or hydrocortisone or some such drug right into my skull. It's been several years now, and I have been migraine free ever since.

Yeah.. it's a lot of drugs, but they all do different things so I guess it works out somehow... I haven't had any side effects with any of the ones I'm taking now.
I'm so sorry that you're so stressed
I hope the new doc can help you out... having a doctor that really listens to you and not just the drug reps selling the latest greatest thing can really help.

This is absolutely no help to you, but I only ever had one when I was pregnant. All I could take was paracetamol. It was awful.
I feel terrible for anyone that gets migraines often.

I take nasal Imitrex. I can take three in a 24hr period. When that doesn't work it's off to the emergency room and when they get finished with me I am knocked out from 24 to 32hrs with almost no memory of what transpired during that time. I don,t know what they give me but I am so grateful to have that pain gone and not throwing up any longer I couldn't care less.

I use to get really bad migraines where I would be in bed all day.
I use to take Excedrin migraine with a coke and that always did the trick.
However as soon as I stopped drinking coffee, the migraines stopped and I no longer get them.
