I watched Superman again the other day. Big lump in my throat when he waved at the screen at the end. Cruel irony in life sometimes.

what is wrong with them?

Good points, Efan, but I'll take the role of defense counsel for the heck of it.

In the first one: The time travel thing. Superman goes back in time to save Lois Lane. But when he does, she yells at him because the gas station exploded and power lines were falling, etc. But the only reason that was happening was because the nuclear bomb went off. So Superman went back in timebut he didn't go far enough to stop the nuclear explosion. That's some piss-poor superheroing.

Supes tried to cut a middle ground between his Daddy, who said he couldn't interfere in human history, AND his desire to save the woman he loved. He only intervened to the extent he needed to to save Lois Lane. Informed, of course, by his regrets that he could not save his Pa.

In the second one: What the hell is that cellophane "S" that he throws at Non? It's worthless. And why do they all shoot beams out of their fingers? That's not a power Kryptonians have. Why is that in there? Also, it's bad enough that the Kryptonians speak English, but they speak it in airless space.

Re: the S -- Exactly what Peter Griffin asked! Re: the beams -- I guess they wanted to stack the deck against Supes for dramatic effect. Re: speaking -- they're Kryptonians. The rules don't apply to them. Hell, people can't fly either but we're not complaining about that in the movies.

But here's where I really get annoyed with the second one. And maybe it's petty, but whatever: At the end, Superman has his powers back and all the other Kryptonians have lost theirs. But Superman STILL kneels before Zod. Screw that.

That's funny, but again, it was for dramatic effect. Plus, he did lose some things, at least in the director's cut -- his connection to his Daddy, his crib, and his woman. He paid a price.

As far as the greatest, I think The Dark Knight has surpassed all, even the genre-defining Superman: The Movie.

As for favorites, the first two Supes films are still among the best. I also have a soft spot for the 1989 version of Batman. A few recent favorites, other than TDK, include:

Iron Man

Spider-Man 2

Hellboy

X-Men: First Class

X3

To all of you who liked X-Men III...

...what exactly about it impressed you?

The mere fact that Juggernaut was protrayed by Vinnie Jones (inside a RUBBER SUIT) as a common thug turned me off. He's Xavier's half-brother for god's sake!

...and the "epic battle" didn't seem very noteworthy to me. I dunno...it just didn't impress me.

My slight problem with The Dark Night is that its the Joker and Two Face scenes that are cool and perfect. The scenes with Batman (with that voice) just didn't work for smoothly for me. And there was zero feeling of romance or loss with the female character (unlike Superman).

For example, the heist scene at the beginning was cool and reminded me of Point Break's masked heists, but then the parking garage scene with Batman seemed lackluster and even awkward.

Fair points, especially the last one.The Rachel character was flaky compared to Lois. Didn't matter who played her. In the first one, she was like, "Bruce, do something." When he reveals himself as the city's savior, she's like, "I need to be with the real Bruce, not Batman." When he tries to pump up Harvey so he can give up Batman and be with her, she says, "I'm marrying Harvey." Bruce was committed in one way or another; Rachel couldn't make up her mind. So there was no romance to feel.

Yeah I know it was a tv show, but she was the best razz

Damn right she's the best and my favorite. As far as movies go though, it would be Christopher Reeves in Superman and Superman II.

X3 sucked for the reasons PurpleJedi stated. They ruined Juggernaut. He's not a fucking mutant, and that costume looks like it came from Fredericks of Hollywood. Phoenix/Jean Grey did nothing but stand there and make faces - total waste. I hate when these 'geniuses' rewrite the source material.

Batman Begins

I love those movies 'cuz not everything is black and white and they shine light on the grey areas of culture and life. Oh, and they are entertaining as well.

Those are the two best superhero movies made.

Watchmen is an epic superhero movie up there with 'Begins' and 'Knight.'

The Incredibles is a very good superhero movie. Off the top, can't think of a better animated one.

I own 'The Punisher.' Like it enough.

Batman - Michael Keaton. This one is still watchable and enjoyable despite the presence of the better brethren.

Don't own any of the Spiderman's. Good but not epic. They don't even stop me while channel surfing.

I like the trailer for the new Spiderman. That looks like something I'd own. Looks like they took a Batman to Spiderman, which is an upgrade.

Wolverine - I'm a fan and I really like Gambit. Should have been more cohesive. Don't own it though.

Iron Man,-I keep wanting to like. I've seen it three times, but don't feel it.

X-Men 1 and 2 -are decent action flicks but seem to want to avoid being epic at all costs. Too bad.

X-Men 3 -was senselessly a mess. Why not just use the source material?!

The Hulk - The Ang Lee version had a great first half and then dumbed down into senseless action. Lou Ferrigno is still the signature Hulk. It would work in a movie.

Blade 1 & 2 - I liked 2 better but own neither. Not that big on vampires. 'Let me In' is the only one I own.

Thor - I can't even watch that a second time.

Superman - None of them are impressive or even memorable.

Fantastic Four - Nothing memorable there.

Captain America - Once was enough. Just stupid.

Hellboy - Cliche fest is my sole memory.

I see someone mentioned Matrix: Reloaded

That's still the best action film. Reloaded and The Matrix would be in front of both Batman's for me.

While everything you said was true I enjoy Superman II because it's a real superpowered slugfest the likes of which you rarely see in superhero movies, oddly enough.

The extra powers at the end did get on my nerves though, it's not like Superman doesn't have enough of his own to choose from.

Edna in the Incredibles was my fav.....I have her phrase up in my office...
"never look back darling...it distracts from the now"....that shit is deep!

Superman 1&2....the fondest memory was seeing the trailers ....The build up of"you will BELIEVE a man can fly". Man oh man that shit was magic! The theater went nuts....I was like damn Superman is cuuuuute, I'm gonna see this.

Do you guys remember the first time you saw Darth Vader? When he came out and walk down the hall with the cape...and then that voice.....oh I was hooked, immediately.

Halle as Storm never sat well with, and the fact that her fight scenes are weak as hell....why did they dumb her powers down? I would have believe Angela Bassett in the role better...Halle is sexy but so is Angela, especially when she is kicking someone ass..check Strange Days.

Matrix was a good movie, but I will have to disagree with reloaded it was pile of boring porn. Every scene was used to emulate a porn scene , there's the leather scene, there's the "orgy" scene, it's obvious-we get it directors you love porn. But, I actually burst out laughing in the movie theater several times because it was so blatantly cheesy.
