Chewing garlic.

Anyone else have experience chewing garlic cloves for the antibiotic effects?

I've had an ear-infection for the past several days and was told to chew 5-6 garlic cloves a day, up to 12! Mucinex and Ibuprofen were both recommended as well (thankfully you can mix them and its not gonna have you looking like Brittany Murphy).

These little fuckers are SPICY, stinky, and make my eyes water. But I'm chewing the shit out of them right now.

I can't eat garlic at all. Even a very small dose of garlic in a meal causes extreme diarrhea. I'm shitting my brains out from that stuff, for hours.

I rarely eat garlic because of my job and because I go to the gym but I love its taste, especially when I use it with cold yoghurt and cucumbers (tzaziki) or to rub a peeled garlic clove on toasted bread, or with pasta.

It definitely helps as far as antibiotic properties are concerned but I need at least two cloves a day over a period of several days, maybe even more cloves.

Eating raw parsley can help you get rid of the smell ( I love the flavor of garlic but I must admit it STINKS terribly once it is in your system.....milk and tons of parsley can help here).

Whenever I have a terrible cold, garlic is my best friend.Works like a charm against infections and helps me calm down and feel good.

I´d love to eat some right now but I have to go to work tomorrow. wink

...on the other hand, if you have a serious ear infection, you´d better go straight to the doctor.

Thanks, y'all. You're great and it's great to be able to interact again. smile

@Veronikka: Apparently garlic pills won't work for the antibiotic part (though it helps with vascular and other stuff in pill form). Apparently I'm not even supposed to mince it (which would cut the crazy burning SPICE taste, lol). The liquid/juice crap has to coat my tongue and absorb into my system that way. Chewing garlic cloves is 1% as strong as penicillin's antibiotic properties.

I'm gonna go ahead and go to the doctor, BUT I will say that I think the cloves are helping a bit. Not a huge amount, but between that and the Mucinex and the Ibuprofen, it's making not every moment excrutiating.

I'm not sure I'd be eating this shit otherwise, though. It's really ruining the flavor for me and I love garlic. lol

My late grandma would swallow the cloves whole, with a glass of water, every night. Said it was very, very good for you.

If you want to avoid Garlic Breath, slice the Garlic Clove down the centre, so it looks like two halves of a sandwich if you get what I mean, then scoop out the shoot from the Centre of both halves.

I promise you it works biggrin I do this with every clove I use wink

Life is short, don't be a dick.

I've chewed on garlic cloves quite a bit; I've gotten used of the 'sensation', which is never pleasant, but effective. The acinin in raw (uncooked/unheated) garlic is much more powerful and has a more instant effect than garlic pills. Most noticeable if your blood pressure is high; chewing the garlic will almost immediately drop the initial 'felt' pressure.

Garlic is known to shut off bacterial quorum sensing mechanism in some infectious bacteria.

It's a microbe interaction mechanism that induces viral gene factors simultaneously in an infection.

Quorum sensing may also contribute to biofilm formation, which is bad for your infection.

So it really makes sense garlic might be good smile, but is it an antibiotic? Biologically, absolutely not.

But when you're having an infection by a virus, garlic is not going to help you.

You're rig, I totally forgot about ginger! Back when I was in the Philippines, I learned how to cook many dishes with ginger. Many of the Filipinos/Filipinas are in pretty good health....I loved my time there....

Sure. The awesome part being that ear infections typically aren't viral. They're usually bacterial or fungal (yeast). Thanks for the additional insight! I like garlic even more now. lol

Although seriously, this shit makes you stink.

i grow my own garlic, it's really easy.. give loads away cuz actually i only use in small quantities of the stuff. might use a bulb a month

eating it raw though is gonna leave breath so offensive, it's gotta be bad manners to mingle in public after doing this?

why not try sticking a clove or two up your bum instead, absorbed via rectum?

I bought a bulb for cooking last week and the Indian chap behind the counter told me how he swallowed one full clove every morning for medicinal purposes.

I love garlic and I make no apologies for the smell afterwards but in saying that I hate smelling it from other people.

Those have been around for ages but....they don´t help. No smell...no health benefits.

Eating huge amounts of fresh parsley helps you get rid of the smell. It´s an old actors trick.

My momma put me onto chewing garlic clove dipped in manuka honey for a double dose of health goodness.

Manuka honey is renowned for its health benefits, but it's prob hard to get outside of New Zealand.

Ur welcome smile. I've looked back at the original table with compounds and extracts that seemed to inhibit this bacterial communication system.

Garlic was companioned on the list with bean sprouts, carrot, chamomile, propolis, water lilly and habanero chili (no red chili).

Especially that last with should be a great companion with your garlic razz.
