the very last scene

when girl puts the flower down for her...

That mess made me jump out of my seat.

I posted this in the "Scariest Movies You've Ever Seen" thread some time ago, this scene had quite an impact on me as a 9-year-old seeing his first movie in a theater.

Last week I was directly behind Steven King in the beer line at Lenny's tour opener, all I could think of was how does he come up with this stuff.

Oh agreed. Since the build up was really subtle, I didn't even suspect a thing.

Sooo subtle! Almost to the point of being boring. I was like: "What the Hell is going on here?". Then by the end, it turned out to have been very cleverly written and one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen (...without the use of any gore or CGI). It was also very beautiful in parts; nevertheless quite haunting.

Excellent ending.

I don't know which movie was the first, but the most impressive one was defenitely 2001. Simply brilliant.

I generally don't like movies that throw a surprise ending in your face like that. It feels cheap and gimmicky, and it's as if they not only betray you, but also themselves and what they spent the whole movie building up.

If Lost had been a movie, that would have been the worst movie ending ever. As it is, it has to settle for being the most monumentally disappointing conclusion in TV history.

As for movies, all I can think of at the moment is A.I. It was as if the ending was a completely different movie. I remember thinking "they can't be serious? is this a dream sequence or something?", lol

Different director for the end of the movie. Huge difference isn't. It's it? smile

neither The Usual Suspects nor The 6th Sense got me.

for suspects i figured it out when he seemed to get from one place to another too fast. It was something like he was about 300 feet away and then all of a sudden he was 25 feet... that with all they hype that of a twist ending i blurted out "oh it's him" (lucky it was just me and a fiend that had seen it)

in the 6th sense: I went expecting a huge twist! As soon as he got shot I said (in the theater) "oh he is dead..." (i got some negative reactions)

no NO WAY OUT: i do not think I figured it out but I was not blow away.

But Presumed Innocent (as contrived as it was) got me!

really? I knew the gag when i saw the very fist teasier of this... again i said it loud in the theater: it is set in modern times. (but i have never seen it or really heard much about it so i could be wrong and there could be more to it but that was my first guess)

He had less of a role than you think. I remember the critics citing that as part of the films success smile

No Way Out was totally unexpected. I still love that movie. I was ready for The Crying Game. Love that one too. What I didn't expect was that he'd serve time for her. heart

Of course The Sixth Sense. But I left the movie feeling stupid and slapping my head duh-"Now why didn't I see that coming??"

But the movie that still disturbs me yet I still watch with fascination is SEVEN. I never ever ever expected Gwyneth's head to be in that box. eek And I thought they'd let us down easy by having Morgan Freeman make Brad give him the gun. But nooooooo... lol johnwoo

One of my all time faves is Angel Heart. Yes, sue me...I loved Lisa Bonet in that movie. But the ending? It was Mickey all the time? Didn't see that one. And when I was very young I remember being upset for days when the original Planet of the Apes (1968) ended and Heston was on earth the whole time. That scene with the Statue of Liberty on the beach froze me.

THIS!

and The Usual Suspects movie ( I'd read Morphology (sp?) of the folktale by Vladimir Propp a few years earlier that has single handedly RUINED movies for me every since.. lol )

I'd figured out the plot for The Usual suspects within the first 5mins of the movie, which then did its best to (successfully)redirect me.

The Kevin spacey 'walk' at the end was magnificent biggrin I was truly and happily surprised

One minute they want peace……
