The Have-a-Heart Project

DC/Northern VA/MD ORGERS (or if u know someone in the area share this info woot!) please come by and support this project. We are working non-stop creating the art for this exhibit as well as hitting the pavement collecting donations to help feed those in need.

Workhouse Studio 4

The “Have a Heart” Project

Food Drive & Art Installation

[img:$uid]http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i9/jgascot/002-2.jpg[/img:$uid]

Studio 4 is conducting a food drive to benefit Food for Others. Food for Others, the largest distributor of free food directly to people in need in Northern Virginia, provides the assistance vitally needed by our unemployed and low-income neighbors. They provide a safety net for those who suddenly face unforeseen emergencies such as a family illness or the loss of a job or a spouse.

Items donated will become components of an interactive art installation which will open to the public on February 11th, 2012.

YOU can be a part of this exciting art installation and help Northern Virginians in need by donating canned or non-perishable food items at Studio 4.

Good question!

We've been taking cash donations at the gallery from folk who might want to give but are just visiting and might not be able to get back with a food donation. We go shopping for food to add to our donation pile each week with that money.

I don't want folk to send us cash in the mail, and sending us checks might complicate matters legistically, but...this supermarket is the closest to our studio.

We have a Walmart nearby (and they have food) so those would work also!nod

Perhaps folk could purchase a gift card and we can pick up the food on their behalf that way. woot!

They could be sent to:

If you live too far to attend but would like to support our project, you can make a donation here.

Please include at least a first name or the name of someone you might want to donate in honor of. As part of the installation a paper heart goes up on one of the gallery walls in recognition of each donation. biggrin

thumbs up! Good work, and good luck.

Then, I don't know about stickies being the kiss of thread-death, but it's true I only came to this thread after reading about it on the "Are "stickies" the kiss of thread-death?" in the "prince.org site discussion" section (...so maybe you have a point, lol).

I love that the article mentions health and consumption.

This is my year of being homeless; partly on purpose. I talk to people that have been homeless for months. Many have gained weight. Many battle diabetes and high blood pressure.

Free white pasta, white rice, sweets, white bread and salt filled vegetables with no nutritional value are only making our poor sicker and more disabled then they already are.

There is a huge amount of politics around food.

Many large stores give their day old bake goods to the poor and it is a tax write off for something that would otherwise fill up their dumpster. It is a very sad situation were generosity is really profiting those being generous!

Good going getting those boy scounts their art badge, hurray for you!
