Is It Weird For A Person Not To Be A Facebook Addict?

A lot of my friends and co-workers seem to spend an incredible amount of time on facebook delving into each other's personal lives and playing word games. I just simply have never understood the fascination with it. I have a facebook page but I only use the service to keep up with certain things that go on in the music industry. Otherwise, I have absolutely no use for facebook whatsoever. I just see people on their posting things that I just don't need to know. Some people post their every move and every random thought that pops into their heads on there. I don't care that you just finished washing dishes and now you are going to mow the lawn. But, some people seem to find it absolutely fascinating!eek

But, sometimes I feel I'm the odd man out, as if I'm the only person in the world who has very little interest in facebook. I often hear people say they are doing this and that on facebook and, most of the time, I have no idea what they are talking about. Anyone else here not a facebook fanatic?

I'm not on Facebook that much, but I try to promote any creative stuff I do by posting on twitter and facebook, and sometimes its fun to see comedic posts or links of facebook. Actually it's exactly like general discussion here. Same purpose.

I don't understand how people can spend so much time there, either. But then, I don't use any of their apps or play any games, so... shrug

You are not the only one!

I just got an account earlier this year, but only because I had to in order to manage the facebook page for my place of employment.... which is all I do with it.

I've tried to make it as difficult as possible for people to find my profile so I don't have to deal with all the BS... if I want to talk to you, I'll talk to you... I don't need to talk to a bunch of random people from my past or whatever because there is probably a reason I stopped talking to you in the first place!

I don't belong to FB,which is fine with me. I do play some of the same games
however on my IPad, but there's no need to belong to FB to do that. I do
have FB friends though that play with me.

If I want to talk to someone, there are many other ways to do so.

Btw, lots of people probably spend just as much time in here as they would on
FB and post pictures here as well...although I haven't seen a picture thread
in here for a while; but then again I'm not here that much anymore.

I'm done now lol

I don't even have a Facebook account. I had a Myspace account years ago but was rarely on it; I'd log on to my account every couple of months but only to check emails, which were mostly spam and porn requests whcih made me use it even less. I have a Twitter account, but I rarely use it. I am on LinkedIn, which I signed on when I was looking for a job a couple of years ago. I've been on it a little more recently because I am looking to relocate back to Chicago, and I hope someone in the network will see me and have an opening. beg

Plus after hearing all of the negative stories about how Facebook uses your personal info, I don't trust the site. The last thing I want or need is for some hacker getting into Facebook and stealing my personal info.

I use it to keep in touch with family mostly. And thanks to FB, I get together with several grammar-school classmates every few months. We always have a great time.

If you're posting on prince.org under general discussion, if you're here, you're doing the exact same thing as posting and checking facebook.

No. I really don't want to be bothered. My dear friends and family can call, email, visit, or do something so very few people do these days write a letter. Facebook for me is like having to answer your damn phone 50 times a day. To hell with that. hmph!

I would have thought so a few years ago, but not anymore. It's great for networking and catching up with good friends, but I don't like the gossip and people keeping tabs, so I deactivated it. If anyone notices and cares and are my real friends, they can kindly contact me in other ways.

It's really what you make it. I like it because a lot of the cool ex-orgers are over there and it feels like the old Music: Non-Prince section of the org since a lot of those folks are gone from here and are over there.

Exactly, nor would I want them snooping around on my page being nosy trying to figure out what I'm doing with my life. That's why I deleted my account last year.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

That's what I'm sayin'. I can see using facebook to stay in contact with people who live in a different state or country. But, using it to keep in contact with people who sit right next to you 5 days a week 8 hours a day or live 10 minutes away from you? Personally, I just don't get it. I'm old-school. I figure if we have something to talk about, let's do it face-to-face, preferably over a delicious lunch. biggrin

And the people I know usually end up telling me about their personal business anyway. I don't have to hear about it AND read it.biggrin And I get so tired of people telling me, "Oh, you should see what Joe Blow said on facebook. You should read it!" I'm like, who gives a shit? I don't want to get involved in anyone else's drama, especially on facebook.

In a way, I suppose it is. But, I don't know any of you personally. None of you can hurt me or smear my name. And I can't go back and gossip about what anyone says here to my co-workers, family or friends. To my knowledge, there have never been any big scandals on here. And, as far as I know, nothing that has been posted here has ever been used as evidence in a court of law.lol So, there is definately a difference between posting on a forum like this one and posting on facebook.wink

And, yeah, you're right! Just about anything is better than what's on TV.biggrin

I have one but I wouldn't consider myself a Facebook type of person. I only post videos or say happy birthday or whatever on there and if there's a message for me I try to respond. I don't even play games on there.

Am I the only one with a teenage son that has NEVER talked to a girl on the phone?

He has plenty of little chicks chasing him and always has a girl, and has done all of his late night "chatting" by text and by facebook.

That shit blows my mind and I know he's not the only one. Will future generations even speak?

You're not alone, Kit. Lots of people aren't on Facebook. I only opened a Facebook account to enter a contest. It gets no use.

I have no Facebook account, I have never had a Facebook account and I will never have a Facebook account. I'm 27 years old and I consider myself too old for Facebook.

And to be quite honest, I see absolutely no need for Facebook other than say if someone is living abroad and wants to keep up with friends from home, but that's it. Otherwise, it's a pointless refuge for (mostly) idiots to converse.

I have never had a Facebook account (or MySpace for that matter) and I don't ever intend to get one. For the most part it's just a massive waste of time, self absorbed people thinking that others would be interested in hearing every thought, every opinion, everything they do throughout each day, and how they are currently feeling all the time.

Follow somebody else's life or live my own to the fullest? I choose the latter.

I think its hilarious that some of you jump up with the judemental "im too mature for fb" "its a waste of time" blahblah

I am by no means an addict, but its a nice way to share your day with people you care about... It also keeps me up to date on concerts, my fave places to shop, my fave restaurants, my fave artists etc etc etc...

You all do realize this is the future... Noone hardly talks on the phone anymore, people dont write letters, And just because you all are old school doesnt mean those of us who LIKE to use fb are immature...

If you dont have it because your not interested in it... Fine... Nothing wrong with that... No need to try and make people feel bad about using just to try and make yourself look better than anyone else...

I really dont see the difference in fb and using P.org... Sure, you can "claim" its to keep up on Prince stuff, but your here in GD... His name is RARELY spoken in here... Please come off your high horses before you fall and break your damn arm... rolleyes

~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~
