What was the 1st movie u watched were the ending caught u totally off guard?

I remember watching the movie "No Way Out" with Kevin Costner years ago.

When he turned out 2 be the man/criminal it blew me away. There have only been a handful of movies where the ending really got me like that. The Usual Suspects and The 6th Sense got me as well.

What tricked u?

yes on all 3.

NO way out was my FIRST favorite movie. I watched it several times on VHS.

And 6th sense. When I first saw this movie at the theater I was pretty surprised. We almost left before the reveal (to avoid traffic rolleyes) but I insisted on see the very last scene.

Wow! glad stuck we stuck around.

Well, not exactly at the ending, somewhere in the middle:

The Crying Game

yeahthat

I'm actually pretty good when it comes to following a plot, so it's VERY difficult for a movie to catch me off guard. I see the plot twists a mile away.

THAT ONE^^^^though...I think I jumped in my seat when "that scene" happened.

Never, ever, ever saw that coming.

I think it could have been "carrie"

I generally don't like movies that throw a surprise ending in your face like that. It feels cheap and gimmicky, and it's as if they not only betray you, but also themselves and what they spent the whole movie building up.

If Lost had been a movie, that would have been the worst movie ending ever. As it is, it has to settle for being the most monumentally disappointing conclusion in TV history.

As for movies, all I can think of at the moment is A.I. It was as if the ending was a completely different movie. I remember thinking "they can't be serious? is this a dream sequence or something?", lol

After te 6th Sense......director started purposely making tricky endings just 4 the heck of it. Even if it did not make sense. Saw comes 2 mind.

To kill A mocking Bird. The attack scene near the end. (I don't wont to spoil it for anyone hasn't read or seen this good book or movie.)

That one is funny because i had been warned so much about the shocking scene, I was watching very closely, and I already guessed that she was a man. The scene still surprised me a little, but I actually kept waiting for the "shocking" scene lol

Yeah the 6th Sense really popularized the plot twist. Even M Knight Shamalamadingdong kept trying to do it with stuff like the Villaige shake

Can't remember the first movie ever to catch me off guard -- all your mentions are good ones.

I remember "Thelma & Louise" - why'd they just do that? There was really no alternative, really?

Also "Twelve Monkeys."

No Way Out was totally unexpected. I still love that movie. I was ready for The Crying Game. Love that one too. What I didn't expect was that he'd serve time for her. heart

Of course The Sixth Sense. But I left the movie feeling stupid and slapping my head duh-"Now why didn't I see that coming??"

But the movie that still disturbs me yet I still watch with fascination is SEVEN. I never ever ever expected Gwyneth's head to be in that box. eek And I thought they'd let us down easy by having Morgan Freeman make Brad give him the gun. But nooooooo... lol johnwoo

One of my all time faves is Angel Heart. Yes, sue me...I loved Lisa Bonet in that movie. But the ending? It was Mickey all the time? Didn't see that one. And when I was very young I remember being upset for days when the original Planet of the Apes (1968) ended and Heston was on earth the whole time. That scene with the Statue of Liberty on the beach froze me.

Definitely. I sat silent for about 10 minutes afterward.

The earliest was honestly probabaly The Last Dragon. lol

When Sho Nuff was revealed to have the Glow before Bruce Leroy, I was floored! faint I still think that was a rather brilliant twist.
