I always leave a 20% tip. And if my Waiter is really cute, I'll leave 30%+.biggrin I haven't had really bad service in a long time but on the ocassions that I have, no, I did not leave a tip.

I do not tip for bad service, period.

I also do not tip if the waitress has a picture of her kids in the envelope thingy she hands you the check in.

Yes, this woman gave horrible service but when she handed me the bill, there was a pic of her kids inside. I can't even be sure those were HER kids. It just pissed me off more and where she would have gotten a small tip, that led to her getting no tip at all.

I'm sorry but after all these years, even with food prices going up, the majority of the time, I still leave only a dollar tip. My meal usually costs around $10 or $12. But then again, it's not often that I go to a place fancy and expensive enough to tip more than a dollar because I can't afford those places, let alone the tip. lol

I think the most I've ever tipped was $3 and that was at a real "swanky" place that I spent $25 on a meal. The food was great but I never went back because I just don't have $25 to fork out on a meal. lol I'm sorry but money is just too tight.

Very rarely have I left "nothing" on the table. I think I've only done that once or twice in my entire life and that's because I was really pissed off and did it to make a statement. I don't mind "bad service" because everyone gets busy and can't give constant attention and everyone also has bad days. The very few times that I've left "nothing" on the table, is when the waitperson was a rude asshole that I found offensive.

No offense, but you should probably stay home rather than going out to eat if you don't have enough to leave a decent tip. Servers have bills too.

I'd leave a note "Cute kids, thanks for the pic!"

I always tip 20%, but if the server is rude, slow, too intrusive or lackadaisical, I will leave only 10% or less. I never not leave a tip. But if the service was really, really bad, I would ask for the manager and voice my concerns, but AFTER I've finished eating. NEVER complain before you get your food, and NEVER get something else if you send a dish back. Your next order will contain any number of bodily fluids/solidis.

OK, I'm trying to catch my breath. This is now imprinted in my brain and if I ever find myself in that type of situation, I'm not sure how I'm goind to handle it. Other words, honey this tip is based on service not a UNICEF pledge. lol

Nah, I don't tip for bad service either, never. My standard is 20%, a little bit more if its a restaurant I frequent.

For the guys here, do you tip your Barber??? Before I started shaving my head, whenever I'd go to the barbershop to get my hair cut, I never tipped my barber. Never even thought about it. I felt bad years later when I read that you are supposed to tip your barber or hairstylist.

I always leave $2 if the bill is $10 or less. If the bill is over, I leave 15%. Sometimes more if I want to round my bill up or if the service was outstanding. I always leave a tip. If it's bad service, I leave an extremely low tip, like spare change.

I think if you have enough money to go out to dinner you should have enough money to pay a decent tip. shrug

I do tip. When I was a student, I used to work part-time for restaurants as a waiter, and I know how hard and ungrateful this job is. So I guess it's because I know the bad parts of this job

I don't tip automatically though. He's the waiter/waitress is doing his job right, it will get a tip. If not, he wont get any money from me.

My brother always leaves a bill as a tip, with his number written on it if he finds the waitress hot! razz

servers receive an hourly wage for asking me what i want and subsequently bringing it to me. if that's all they do, that's all they get. they gotta earn their tip, in my opinion.

answering questions, attentiveness, friendliness, professionalism, appearance, etc...these things all matter.

that said, i usually tip on the high end of the scale...but i will forego it altogether if i feel i've received shitty service; and like hotgritz said, the manager will hear about it.

the problem is, they allow tipped employees to be paid less than minimum wage so they are by law expected to get a tip. It's not really fair to say they don't deserve it without going above & beyond (even if that is the true spirit of tipping)

I think you only shouldn't tip if the server somehow ruined a meal or acted in a totally unprofessional manner

yeahthat Almost ALL people have no idea that this is how waitstaff are paid. They get a few dollars per hour (usually $3 or less) and are expected to make up the rest in tips. In fact, if they make the full minimum wage in tips, that means that the restaurant doesn't have to pay them at all. Some of the more unscrupulous restaurants will pressure the waitstaff to make minimum wage in tips. IT IS IMPORTANT TO TIP YOUR WAITER FOR EVEN BASIC SERVICE! Only refuse tip if the service is ABSOLUTELY sub par.
