Breaking your addictions...

...do you have addictions? I think that most of us do.

Could be cigarettes. Could be alcohol. Could be Coke (either the soft drink or the hard drug). Could be porn. Could be prince.org or Facebook.

If so, do you want to break your addiction? Have you tried before?

How long would you let it go before you sought help?

Me: I was addicted to Coca-Cola. The caffeine for sure, but the soda as well. I used to drink 2 to 3 servings (can/bottle/glass) a day, EVERY day. It was bad. After my kidney stone, I broke the habit. Not a "true" addiction I will admit, but still.

Right now I think that I'm addicted to this site. I log on every f*cking day. 2 or 3 times a day usually.

sigh Sometimes I think I need to cancel my account and take a break, like Zombiekitten did.

What about YOU?

[It's OK if you generalize...some addictions are personal]

Sugar and flour are my big addictions. Never been able to kick those. I know someone who did. Lost TONS of weight! And he feels better than he has in years! He used to have a cocaine habit and he told me withdrawing from coke is nothing compared to withdrawing from sugar & flour.

I feel like if I kicked flour I would lose a lot of weight too. It seems to just sit there like a brick in my gut.

I've broken mostly all of my bad addictions, Like Coca-Cola [Pop/soda in general. I haven't drank it in years & I refuse too wink] , over eating candy [because I love chocolate & peanut butter together so much], laziness, meaningless sex (I'm still celibate over 6 months now & happier than the morning sun woot!), & dealing with people I don't really care to.

Making good addictions is awesome, though. biggrin

I used to have a really bad sweet tooth. Over the years I've lost it for the most part. rarely ever eat candy and cut the soda out.

BUT when I drink coffee every morning, I usually put 2 tablespoons of sugar in my cup (about 5 or 6 packets).

the never endin challenge

comes in the form of NOT lettin go.

whutevr it may be.

i didn't like bein able to run people

as a kid, it made me uncomfterble,

so i found other things i thought i

wanted to do more, but if i wasn't

runnin people i felt out of sorts.

so it became nessisary to have

more people around so it wouldn't

feel so bad.

I gave up soda years ago. (although in the last 2 years I have been drinking about 8 sodas a year.) I did stop eating ice cream for 2 years. I eat ice cream from time to time.

I should give up sugar and corn syrup etc. That is a hard thing to do. I generally don't eat flour-except when eating out or a pastry.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

By 'corn syrup' you mean "High Fructose Corn Syrup" right?

If so...did you know they've renamed it "corn sugar" or "natural sugar"???

There's discrepancies about that. I've HEARD that the studies claiming "no difference" were sponsored/funded by the corn growers' industry.

What I've heard is that sugar, regardless of where it comes from (cane, beet, corn, etc.) will make you fat just the same. I can see that. However, the big issue stems from the claim that HFCS is not PROCESSED by the body the same and affects other things in your system (too lazy to google right now).

shrug Either way...I can definitely TASTE a difference between products sweetened with HFCS as opposed to raw sugar.

I was smoker. Kicked 3.5 years ago.

I was addicted to junk food and too much food in general, though it took me a long time to realize it. Kicked that a long time ago too, but I still have food issues. I’m mostly able to keep myself in check these days, though. After I lost 50 pounds in 2009 I’ve been able to maintain since then. When I feel my pants getting tight I go back to tracking all of my food intake. I haven’t gained more than 10 pounds since I lost it and I get back to where I was. This year I’m trying for another 30-40 pound loss. I’m at 5 so far.
