I saw this last night. Wow. Great movie. My friends and I talked about it and debated it for hours afterward.

One of the best movies I´ve seen in years. VERY funny, sad and thought provoking at the same time. In my opinion a must-see movie. I was a bit skeptical first because everybody seems to love it and sometimes I end up hating hit movies but this one is very special.

Some thought the movie is a bit racist because it conveys a lot of stereotypes about black people but that is debatable and I highly doubt that the makers of this movie had any bad intentions. But watch it and judge for yourself.

This movie had me laughing with tears from beginning to end even though it is not really a comedy per se.

(....yes, ONE star and I´m only giving that one star because it´s the Muppets and I love the Muppets but this atrocity of a movie had zero to do with Jim Henson´s original Muppets, which is weird considering that it´s stll the same puppets but the spirit of the late, great Mr. Henson is missing in this childish snorefest that consisted of nothing but stale 80s jokes. I´ve never walked out of a movie theatre while the movie was still playing but this time I simply couldn´t sit there any longer. I think I got up and walked out when I saw Fozzy Bear with those fart bags under his shoes. Ridiculously stupid movie. Just goes to show you that you can´t really trust movie critics. I think this one has a higher than 90% rating at Rotten Tomatoes.)

I am not finished with it yet, but I cannot stop laughing. Greatest movie ever!

But it's also quite sad to realize that some of our favorite internet sensations have ended up in the funny farm as a result of our laughter.

Still...it's totally worth it

Yeah he has a famous internet video. He's tagged as "the angriest man in the world"

In this movie they track him down and go into the trend of famous youtube videos in general.

I went in hoping that this would be as good and interesting as it looked and it really was. I feel like it executed the story of how these particular characters would deal with such supernatural powers, the responsibility and temptation very well. It didn't go off the rails with the story and it still delivered with the action and special effects.

It was good. Very good. Everyone should have been speaking in Swedish though. I still like the original film more.

I was in Sweden two weeks ago, my first time. Everyone spoke to me in English, but I took it as I was able to understand Swedish. falloff

I just saw this and give it 2.5.

I like the premise but the most compelling character's transformation doesn't ring true.

It's like there some unknown effect on one individual.

I wanted to like it but it could have been a lot better with little effort.

I thought it did. That father son relationship was soooooooooo cliched. Actually that family was. Unnecessarily considered what followed.

hmmm

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that.

OK...the drunk, dissalutioned & abusive dad is sort of a cliche. I give you that. And the mom on the deathbed is sort of the icing on the cliche cake.

BUT...it is a situation that is actually experienced in real life by real-life people...dysfunctional homes are a very common thing nowadays...and THAT I think balances out the very UNCOMMON scenario of the "kids getting superpowers through a funky glowing meteorite".

The main character is all fucked up. Low self esteem, a loner, tortured soul...basically a Columbine kid that suddenly can go one-on-one with Superman.

The "unknown effect" I think, is his angst.

What exactly did you think could've been improved about his character development?

Loved it! 4 star out of 5.

Waiting for the US to get their paws on this film. My guess is they'll only go as old as Cherlize Theron on the leading character.

Did you really buy that heavy handed victim character painting? As soon as it started, I knew what his home life was going to be like etc.

You would think they made it so obvious so they wouldn't have to keep returning to it but they do.

We get the victimhood. It's not necessary to see that 20 times in 20 different way but nothing on how he went from there to megadouche. It makes no sense that he abandons all . . . .

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I think that the abundance of abuse (school, home, personal...) is what makes it credible that at the end of the story he tries to throw his father off the top of a building.

It's like Carrie but with modern undertones to the type of stress needed to make someone 'snap' like that.

...and don't forget...this was a low-budget flick dude, aimed at teens.

Like I originally posted, I walked in with low expectations and found myself engrossed in the film.

This is never going to win an Oscar, but it sure as hell beats anything Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller make millions off of.

On that we agree.

But I don't buy going overnight from wilting at any human contact to becoming a megalomaniac who cares for no one and nothing but himself.

The acquisition of 'powers' shouldn't change someone's personality to that degree.

OK...I promise this is my last volley on this subject (jacking the thread, we are yoda)...

BUT...dude, there were THREE teenagers who absorbed these powers. Two out of the three were relatively well-adjusted and did not go postal...the wallflower being bullied in school and beaten by dad and watching his mom die in front of his eyes is the one who goes all darkside.

You thought that they were heavy-handed with the "victimization" angle...but what I'm saying is EXACTLY!!! That's the point. His character is the lovechild of Anakin Skywalker and Carrie.

...now is this the point where Ebert gets snippy with Roeper???

Clearing out the Netflix queue:

Our Idiot Brother -- 3/5. The story was played pretty straight, and while not LOL-funny, had its moments.

Due Date -- 2/5. Downey and ZachG tried to make this flick Martin/Candy good, but the script wouldn't let'em.

Up next: Beginners.

After I was blown away by "Melancholia", I wanted to see "Antichrist", but it was a big dissapointment. I had no feelings for the characters at all, didn't care if they would survive or not. First Lars von Trier movie that didn't make an impression on me.
