i watched the host yesterday and watched the thirst today, coincidentally the same guy starring in each. the thirst is directed by the guy who did the vengange trilgoy (old boy, etc) which i loved. thirst was great. as with brotherhood of the wolf, it had little to do with the current stream of vampire/lycan movies, and certainly nothing like twilight. i'm going to have to checkout more of kang ho-song's movies as he's in a load of movies i've seen and others that are recommended here

Exactly why I love both those films.

i've seen that. there was a goddard season on the tv years ago when i was a kid and whilst i didn't understand half of what was going on with the arty black and white and subtitles on half the stuff, i enjoyed it. one on one - sympathy for the devil was brilliant
i managed to get a HD tv rip of alphaville but couldn't get the subtitled to match and can't find any 25fps subs so i can follow it. i need to muck about with subsynch to make the dvd subs fit. for some reasons it's not out on bluray. there are still a few fave movies not yet out on bluray. malcolm x is only just out on bluray FFS but other utter shite gets released first

you don't tend to see foreign films on tv these days.....i remember in the late eights there was always some french film on with some bird on a bike, or on the underground which ultimately ended up with her getting her tits out and some older fella filling his boots.....oh the heady days of wanking yourself to sleep

sounds like subway by luc besson. i remember seeing that on telly for the first time
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Luc Besson is too formulaic for me. If you've seen one of his films you've seen about 80% of what he has to show you. That said, occasionally he has a decent film, like Les Aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec. But he does one good film and 4-5 bad ones and 2 not that bad ones until he does another good one. Change it one more time..

Battle Royale (Japanese) Casshern (Japanese) City Of God (Portuguese) Devil (Not the American horror movie about the elevator. This one's a Korean serial killer movie) Man Bites Dog (French) Nightwatch / Daywatch (Russian)
There's probably a hell of a lot more that I've seen but these ones came up off the top of my head right now.
(Casshern is Japanese. I googled it. Edit) [Edited 2/1/12 20:46pm]

I haven't read the thread yet beyond skimming the first post, so if someone else mentioned it then my bad, but "Chungking Express" is really good.

Cinema Paradiso
The only film ever to make me cry, the final scene is one of the most moving, both comically and emotionally in any film, truely "lovely".
The film is a joyous collection of life's good and bad, naivety and knowledge, I love it!
Time to watch it again.

the problem real film buffs have is having too many movies to watch and then wanting to watch more

i watched haute tension the other day which was okay. i'm not into horror where they can make up any daft rules, but this was more slasher flick, even though i'm not into slasher flicks really. i was trying to figure out if they were copying tarantino or tarantino was copying them or both
yesterday i watched cell 211 which was great
i've been looking through all the lists seeing what i can get my hands on. i've seen a lot of the suggestions, which means we are on the same waveline. some of the flims that sound really intersteting i can't get easily, but i'll keep trying. at least i have a few to keep me going, but more suggestions are welcome

did you watch JSA?
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

is that the one? or the 2009 danish movie headhunter?
enter the void is one of the most amazing movies i've seen. the directors cut in HD on a big plasma in the dark is mindblowing. imagine watching that on acid!

No, I don't think so. What you are referring to is Peter Jackson's Braindead, that was renamed to Dead Alive in the USA.
I think he meant Takashii Miikes Dead or Alive.
