NSFW: Average model body sized against average woman

I was amazed when I first saw models IRL on the runway... but this was years ago. The models are only getting thinner.

I saw this article and I wanted you guys to share your thoughts. Do you think we should see images of normal sized women on TV, magazines, runways?

That's a brave photo to take, I hope fellow won't denigrate it into the usual sexual muck GD is known for. How honestly can we as consumers reverse this trend and make it more believable for us.

So the "average" sized woman is too big for your taste?

did you see the other photos of her?

Yeah I saw them.

I am not saying she is too big (or the other one is too small), but if I am objectifying these naked models to my personal taste, I like a slightly skinnier woman is all

I added a link ... the comments are interesting.

I believe this article follows the photoshoot pic of a model bearing it all (average woman also) was pictured in Glamore a while ago.

I need to find that pic...

http://www.guardian.co.uk...-model-fat

found it!

lizzie miller Lizzie Miller photographed by Walter Chin as pictured in the September issue of US Glamour Photograph: Walter Chin/Glamour

I agree with you, I wonder if I am so used to looking at rail thin models and actresses that these normal women look "fat" to me...

instead of looking normal.

Its perfectly understood and I thank you for your honesty. biggrin

I think women would be more critical actually. I think woman pick each other apart in a brutal fashion more than men do. This may be what drives fashion trends and models to be forced to be so thin.

WHy did you have to say "normal"?

I like to surf Pinterest, its a pinning website, anyway, I got into it with some other women because they called larger sized women "real" women... What does that mean? Why arent thinner women considered real and normal...

Im all for plus sized women getting more coverage but i really get tired of everyone assuming thinner women are not the "norm" and everyone is overweight, and those who arent are wrong for wanting to have a fit body... Or maybe not 'wrong" but vain and stupid...

I dont wanna pick these women apart at all, but it seems to me larger women wanna make thinner women feel bad about wanting to be thin...

But thats just me... shrug

Im not really directing this at you Painted, sorry if I ranted a bit...

I should add, I would date and could easily love a woman that size! I think she is beautiful.

Women can be cruel too, it's true.

It's complicated, I guess the anorexic runway thing happens partly because they want the clothes to hang a certain way. But it's weird that it makes normal women want to be like that because runway models are generally thought to be too thin and often, not very pretty.

I guess "average" would be a better term... but I used "normal" because she isn't photoshopped and you can see her real tummy.

Like what a regular ol' gal looks like... people only want to see athletic figures (tight sculpted bodies) and God forbid a woman have a pouch of any kind.

I want thin to be called thin and not thin to be considered the avaerage size a woman should be.

Average = normal sized IMO and that's any woman who is within her natural normal HEALTHY body weight.

Some woman are average (healthy) at a size 0 or 2 and others are average at a size 12 depending on height and body frame.

A woman with a rounded figure (wider hips and high buttocks) will be a larger size than a woman with slimmer hips and small buttocks.

Yeah, I can sew... I think they could cut fabrics in a way that can move with larger women... they just don't want to.

It is a visual thing... the models would look too "bouncy" stomping down a runway braless/pantyless which they usually are if they had heavier tits or larger buttocks.

That is just the way it has been traditionally. I think (like any fashion) it could change. There's already a wide awareness that models don't really look like most women, and a lot of them are unhealthy.

I think more young designers might begin to design for "average" sized women and use them as models.

I don't really get fashion, so I can't really say, though

nod

I would like to see untouched average women images flood the media...

so we can look at a flat ass, or a high ass and think both are OK..

that a pouch can be flattering, and that arms don't have to be so "hard" looking all the time.

I just think we as a society are setting a standard for women's bodies that is lesser and lesser feminine.

Breasts for example... real breasts are always seen as ugly... but I think a woman (post babies) with small bust should be as celebrated as fuller breasted counter parts.

I think images of the human form itself would be seen as beautiful and more accepted in general.

I can not agree with you more!! I get tired of photoshopped airbrushed girls who have not one thing wrong with them, when EVERYONE has imperfections, be it tummy pooches, stretch marks, or cellulite... Whats even funnier is the men looking at these "perfect" women usually have beer bellies or zits on their asses... rolleyes

I wonder when the hardcore airbrushing started? To where the model doesnt even look human...

Shit...now size 6 is plus size??? eek

disbelief

As someone who has suffered all her life from body image issues, I used to judge myself by my clothesize when I was a teenager. I eventually grew to accept my body size and my shape. I can't be like these size 0, lighter-than-air women. If you're naturally small, that's great. But I mean, stop saying to a generation of young woman that they HAVE to look like this otherwise they're not beuatiful. I sure as HELL don't want another young woman having to go through with what I went through. I still have struggles with it to this very day.

I find this new standard of beauty very unhealthy. Back in Victorian times, a woman had to at least wiegh 185 or she'd be more susceptible to tuberculosis. In some parts of the world today, a woman with a little around the edges is considered a sign of beauty and wealth. On one side of the world, woman and children are starving from having no food to eat, and yet on the other, where food is aplenty you have woman who won't partake of this bounty because they want to reach this unattainable standard.

The truth is, all these models and/or celebrities always go under the photographer photoshop cursor before they even get published, even plus size models. So women should stop beating themselves up. Just love yourself as you are.

The world will tell you you're not good enough. It doesn't help if YOU tell yourself that. Take it from one who knows.

**getsoffsoapbox**

To the topic at hand, I want to see more variety than just the "average" skinny model. Heck, Dove's been doing that for a while now. So why not see more of it?

I don't think so, no. I think people (male and female) like to look at women more, and so they comment more on them as a result. It's the curse of being the "fairer sex"

Plus, male models are not too thin IMO For some reason they are encouraged to look healthy

But in hollywood, also, nobody is saying Tony Soprano is overweight and bald, they say he is a good actor. Actors are funny looking and overweight, actresses are pretty.

But I saw a magazine recently point out some fat on Katy Perry's body. About the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. Meanwhile Rick Ross poses shirtless shake
