Can We Agree That Hayao Miyazaki Is The Greatest Animation Director Ever?

[img:$uid]http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdreviews21/a%20Hayao%20Miyazaki%20My%20Neighbor%20Totoro%20DVD/opt_011555.JPG[/img:$uid]

Loved My Neighbor Totoro when I watched it at 9 years old, love it even more NOW at 29 when I understood some of the stuff that he was trying to say. ALL of his films are really timeless(and I don't like to use this word unless I have to) and the themes could resonate with every age group.

And don't get me started on the craftsmanship love drool The animation alone - with or without the story - is worth a thread of its own.

Pretty much. I can't really argue this @ all. I haven't seen one film I wasn't captivated by that he has done.....There are other Animated directors that are really good too though...nod

My love for anime didn't revive until recently, my issue with them was the fact that many of them have the tendency to exagerate the fantasy aspects, even if the story doesn't have a fantasy factor.

I got over that real quick when I watched Spirited Away though.

He's great!

if you like him. you should try Satoshi Kon. infact, i recommend his anime series paranoia agent, which just happens to be my favorite anime ever..its so odd, truly. kinda off topic because her work mostly consits of manga..but try Hagio Moto, she's really good! she mixes sci-fi with kinda of fantasy and bits and pieces of romance...i can't really explain it, you must read it in order to enter Hagio-sensei world.

To be honest (not that I've been dishonest at any point since I've joined this site....it's just that, well....I'm not gonna start now), I don't really know anything about japanimation, but since the subject of this thread reeks of positive energy, I'm gonna say,
Yes.
I totally agree that Hayao Miyazaki is the greatest animation director ever.

By far.
No contest.

Without googling, i'm going to guess that this is the person responsible for Howls Moving Castle, ponyo, Kiki's delivery service and Spirited away? Anyway, if that's the person then YES!!!

I absolutely LOVE those films. I adore them and I have had to take a break from watching them because people around me think i'm turning into a bit of a geek.

Interesting you mentioned him,,,

Some of the themes in Hayao's films remind me of Osamu's stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a big influence on Ghibli's films.

I've been saying that since 1999 when I first saw Princess Mononoke. That was the year I became a anime fan

Hayao and Osamu Tezuka (aka The Father of Manga and Godfather of Anime) were huge fans of Walt. In fact, Osamu is called the Walt Disney of Japan. His series, Kimba The White Lion, has been said to have influenced The Lion King

The visuals in Princess Mononoke are down right hypnotic love

I've always respected him, it was only recently I totally fell in love HARD!
