Christopher Meloni joins 'True Blood'

Christopher Meloni is coming back to TV but not to “Law & Order; SVU.” His new gig will be a regular role on the upcoming fifth season of “True Blood” on HBO.

Meloni, who starred as Det. Elliot Stabler on NBC’s hit drama “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” for 13 seasons, will become a vampire in the fifth season of HBO’s drama “True Blood.”

According to TVLine.com, series creator/executive producer Alan Ball has cast Meloni as “an ancient, powerful vampire who holds the fate of Bill and Eric in his hands.” It returns to the pay cable channel next summer. The actor, who also has a major role in the upcoming “Man of Steel” Superman film, previously co-starred in HBO’s acclaimed prison drama “Oz.”

A native of Washington, D.C., Meloni decided to leave the “L&O: SVU” following a breakdown in his extended contract talks with NBC.

OMG that would be the icing on the neck...

I dig Meloni, and I'm sure he'll do a good job. But I'm finding the collective vamp backstory in True Blood to be awfully unimaginative. At least a couple millennia of vamps that ostensibly have spanned the entire world, and so many the most ancient, powerful ones are European-extracted males? I'm aching to see more queens or some 2000(+)-year-old vamps from places like Africa, Asia and South America.

I recall Anne Rice saying one time she'd love to do a Hindu-derived vamp. That would be a potentially fantastic spin on the whole popular vampire mythos and aesthetic!

But not nice enough to make me switch HBO back on.

We cancelled it after this past season of True Blood suckin so severely (It's the only thing on HBO we watched).

Will catche when the season comes out on video.

So far we have Manganiello who is Sicilian, Austrian, German and Armenian. Luna--Indian and Dutch, Swedish, Irish, Hispanic, Canadian, Australian, Black, and I'm quite sure other cast members are of other races. But of course most play the "born in LA" roles. I think one of the wolf actors was from New Zealand...But for the roles I would like to see some Egyptian, African, and Asian, etc., too!

OZ was MY shit...I'm telling you. That was the first show where I stopped answering phone calls for while it was on.

I really couldn't get into "How to make it in America"..."Hung" is pretty funny but I've never been interested enough in "Enlightened" to sit down and watch it.

Right now HBO has me at "Boardwalk Empire"...I absolutely love that show. "True Blood" used to be my shit but this last season had me at huh. Especially with all the undeserved sex Sookie was getting playing with vamps and werewolves hearts and shit.
