Org Veterans

I see a lot of you complain. But what's so different about the org now that you long for the days of the org circa 1999?

This org has it's moments...even though I am a stone cold sucker for the old org. You just remember your org cronies and the fun and the laughs and sometimes you just reminisce and wish for days of old. Debates over RAve, discussions about the Paisley Parties, Mayte, 1-31-99 and other stuff.

I think some may be weary that there is such a silence at Paisley now...Prince doesn't "ROCK" there anymore. It's also a sign of the times...with an impending war, a lot of people are just weary...

It was good and bad... a lot of the threads back then went off topic, as the only topics were Prince news... people would complain at times for us not staying "on topic". So, it's nice to have the GD forum, and other forums here to utilize.

There weren't as many flame wars and arguing, that I remember anyway. Well, they certainly didn't last as long as some do here.

It wasn't a "pick up" joint.

There weren't any emoticons... which I find to be a very good thing as I can't stand them.

The "fams" weren't out in full force... it was more of an appreciation of the man's music.

There are many reasons, as far as I am concerned... they both have their pros and cons... but, I do miss it at times.

Although I never did anything but lurk, NettieSmiles did make some very good points.

There was a lot of news, events, and Prince was rather visible. There was still controversy and things to write about and/or talk about.

I miss the PP parties. sad

I lurked when the place started and the old faces and old assholes have simply been replaced by new ones among the Vets. I respect your opinion about the war, but I don't buy that. I just wonder if the org is becoming one of those elitist places that's just not fun to visit anymore because the whole site depended on a few to keep up appearances.

I can understand your points. Fortunately, you're not one of the ones I see complaining about it. But lemme ask you this, on a site that's dedicated to Prince, did you really NOT expect to see some "fams" out in full force razz

Oh, trust me... I have a lot of complaints about the org as of late, I'm just not very vocal about it I guess.

I expected to see some fams out there, but not nearly what I've seen since the new org. I'm glad there is a separate forum... smile <--- I use emoticons, too.

The org has become a discussion forum for nearly every topic OTHER than Prince. It's ridiculous. If I want world news, I'll check out Cnn.Com, not Prince.org!

I understand that news in the Prince world is always sporadic, however, I'd rather see no new threads than some of these ridiculous ones.

and what's up with all the sexual threads? Is this place a 16 and up meat-market club or a discussion site for Prince music. I would hardly trust someone's ideas about sex when they obviously are posting on Prince.org instead of having a life!

I completely understand that, especially in the Prince:Music and More forum. But isn't it easier to not to click on those threads or start a more interesting topic?

Hey clubkid, were talking about Prince. Half his of his music collection is based on sex, so you would expect people
to have a sexy attitude about them. And meeting them is wanting to find a like-minded freak  . And prince did sing about everything for the most part so you would expect the attitudes to reflect that also. Plus you can only talk about an album so much till you get sick of even seeing the title.

I don't see "a lot" of people complain. Did I miss something?.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with criticizing the Org's contents, unless you just endlessly hate it all. I've read some of the stingiest assessments posted by moderators themselves. The Org is not a perfect jewel nor will it ever be, so a comment here and there can be expected.

As for elitism, I'm not sure what you mean by that. I don't see people who have their nose up in the air surviving too long around here. It's a pretty diverse place.

I've said this before, and I'll continue to say that the chat room used here is not as good as the link to "The Holy River" was. I wish they'd use that style (it was a link to the chat room used by Prince's old web site www.Love4OneAnother.com).

I've checked out the chat room here, but find it odd. The people are nice though.

I like this .Org better than the old one. I find the fact that there are more forums rather pleasing. If you want to discuss only Prince, go to his forum. If you're interested in other artists, check out that forum... etc.

I do miss this, though:

It's not something that's originated as it's own topic. But I've seen the comments in several posts over the last couple of weeks.

I'm pretty much still a lurker, but when I see some new faces post "shock value" stuff just to make a name for themselves, they get shit on. For example, if JohnDoePissypants creates a thread titled "My dick's so big he needs glasses to see" vets are usually annoyed and the post is locked. Ten minutes later, if IceNine (just an example, I love the guy because he's funny as hell) rearranges the words and posts the same thing, he's celebrated.

I am not sure, but I think the reason that those threads don't go over too well, or as well as when say, Tony posts them, is because half the time the poster is doing it for just that... "shock value", whereas that is Tony's personality and he usually adds to the threads as the go along.

Of course, I could be all wrong. I don't know...

I don't find it so unreasonable that a veteran has more slack than a newbie; not just because they've earned it, but because they're in character, and because that character is widely known and understood, whereas any newbie is just some newbie. And besides, when IceNine or whoever has refurbished some poor asshole's thread, he's usually framed it in such a way that is far more entertaining and is more of a reflection of the veteran status than a special excemption given thereto.

Might I be the first to say "fuck shock value."

Don't try to be anything other than yourself... don't try to imitate others... just be yourself and do what you do.

If you normally talk about penguins fucking giraffes in the asshole while standing on a Rubbermaid stool, then by all means post about it... hell, you can even share your experiences in yak banging if you feel the need, just be sure that you are being yourself and not some fucking horribly annoying imitation of someone else.

Hmm I take issue with this statement chickengrease smile

In running the site we do our best to apply the rules evenly and equally to everyone. The sheer amount of work involved in running a site like this in our spare time means we have no time to get involved in petty Org politics and distinguishing the newbies from the oldies. I can definitely tell you that I make no such distinction in my moderation - simply because it would take me longer and I am far too lazy smile Half the time I don't even notice the person whose thread I am locking etc, I just get on with it and get it done.

However of course - if some new account that is clearly set up for the purposes of starting stupid threads or baiting for flames appears, I'm quite skeptical of their intentions.

Whereas if a more experienced Orger starts a silly thread, I can be reasonably confident that (a) they understand the rules of the site and the boundaries that have to work within and (b) they'll stick around to see the thread through to it's bitter end smile

I can accept that. But can a person get some time to get that "artist development"? I know to get to the top you've got to work your way there. But I feel sorry for some of those poor assholes. They get shot down and stomped on before they can get up and try again. lol
