So tell me ...

What do you do to sooth yourself while sick ?

I have a pretty bad cold ~ I'm resting and drinking herbal teas and using essential oils ...

What things do you do or try to ease your own discomfort while healing from sickness ?

Yummy teas and fruit juices are at the top of my list.

Tissues that have lotion in/on them are a must – my skin is extremely sensitive and when I get colds my nose gets all raw and red from being chafed by tissues otherwise.

Put on my most comfy pajamas and watch dvds and read books – either ones I’ve been looking forward to or old favorites that are comforting to me.

If I’m well enough, I make my own yummy soup. If I’m not well enough, I get someone to bring some over or order the best take out I can get.

Nap. Lots of naps.

Chicken noodle soup (though I will often make Roman Egg Soup since I am now aware of what's in canned soup lol ), Diet 7-Up and orange popsicles.

I pretend like I am not sick lol

Am actually doing this right now, even though all my coworkers are staying away from me, I keep telling myself I feel fine. It works. Mind over matter.

If you will, so will I

Soup, tea, ice cream, and more fruit/boiled vegetables, normally anything that isn't bland will make me feel worse.

I'll sleep a lot, have more baths than usual, and just lay in bed or on the couch watching Jerry Springer or random dvds.

This is going to sound weird, but the best things for me in that situation are a Domino's pepperoni pizza, washed down with a Coke.

I guess all the grease and sugar kills the cold or flu.

If your throat is sore, gargling with warm salt water works wonders. My late grandmother used to say that it works, and it really does.

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

* Long, hot baths (not that those are ever uncalled for)

* Teas

* Meals with lots of peppers, Tabasco or hot sauces (keeps those sinuses open and draining)

* Zinc!

* Naps

Hot showers and lots of sleep. And stay indoors with some good air circulation. I tend to get over illness pretty quickly (maybe because I was sick so often as a kid) but that doesn't mean everyone I give my germs to would.

My mom taught me to cure a 1/2 of lemon and two cinnamon sticks in a jar of honey.

Its a great throat soother and the cinnamon has an anti-biotic quality to it to kill germs.

I keep a jar ready in the cubboard to go when I get an itch in my throat. It just keeps and keeps.

biggrin Hope you are well soon..

Oh and I like to boil water with eucalyptus oil and breath in the steam or go with a hot humidifier at night.

Lots of teas and clear fluids. NO DAIRY anything.

hug

Whenever I'm sick, I make homemade chicken and noodles. Aside from that, I lie on my couch and read comic books while watching bad TV. My mom used to give us 7-Up when we were sick, so sometimes I get that for nostalgia's sake.

No tricks like the old tricks.

This.

I make it if I'm not sick but Ron is also.

The last time I can remember being sick (knock on wood...he he..."wood" giggle) was when we were moving into this place last December...wich sucked majorly.

Ottensen

Chicken & Noodle Soup

Dissolvable Vitamin c tabs

and though I've pretty much dropped my dependence on American pharmacy stuff, I do ask my family to send me a box of these each year for emergency moments. They make shower time feel like being in a spa cloud9 and are good for soothing aches & loosening up congestion.

Lastly, I drink tea by the gallon. Today I woke up with a sore throat, so I'm steady chuggin' ginger-lemon tea. Sometimes I brew loose leaves (for large pots), and when I make smaller pots I use bags:

& at night, consider dressing heavily before you get under the covers and make yourself an herbal tea from Linden flowers as it promotes sweating. If you add a shot of alcohol, lemon, and honey to the mix you've got yourself a great Flu Toddy that will knock you out, and help you sweat those toxic germies right out'chur system:

Outside of whole/health food stores in the US I don't know if Linden flowers/Linden tea is readily available. I do know that you might be able to find it (and priced quite reasonably) in the Latin food isle of supermarkets or in Latin markets/bodegas period. The loose flowers or the tea is sold under the Goya brand, the loose flowers being sold next to all the spices on the Goya display rack:

Feel better soon! heart

Do you make homemade noodles? (He he...noodles)

A friend of mine is really sick right now and yesterday I almost made chicken and noodles for myself just out of habit.
