Seemingly taking cues from NOM, Marcus Bachmann's "ex gay" clinic and other dangerous "conversion" centers, the Toronto Zoo has decided to break-up a gay penguin couple deemed in love and force them to mate with available females. Details follow.

Buddy and Pedro, like the famous penguin boyfriends at zoos in New York, Japan, Germany and SeaWorld Orlando, are inseparable, and by all accounts (considering what they're observed doing every night) are a monogamous gay couple.

But while you and I "ooh" and "ahh" at the undeniable adorable factor the pair eschews, zookeepers in Toronto are plotting a way to split the lovers up, and, perhaps even more traumatically, force them to breed with females.

Reports the Toronto Star:

Buddy and Pedro’s relationship, however you describe it, is destined to come to an end soon because they have a duty. They have top-notch genes, so the zoo intends to separate them from each other and pair them with females for breeding.

Given that African penguins are endangered, the move falls within a species survival plan among zoos.

Buddy, 20, and Pedro, 10, are in Toronto as part of the popular African penguin exhibit that opened at the zoo in May. The two, bred in captivity, were part of a group of 12 penguins — six male, six female — that came to Toronto from zoos in the U.S.

Even though zoo officials close to the pair admit that "they seem to be in a loving relationship of some sort," it is now time for Buddy and Pedro to pass along the genes they were brought to Toronto to hand off.

Isn't this story old? I thought those penguins been broke up ever since one of the males went a creepin' in the lady pengquin part of the zoo. Zoo officials need to learn a thing or two about how animals behave in their natural habitat versus some manufactured fake house.

What's wrong with breaking them up? Let's face it, if we were all gay we wouldn't be here. Oh yeah, artificial insemintation. Nothing says "romance" like a turkey baster up the minge.

This makes me really embarassed for us.

Most animals are adaptable and considering that penguins have a hard enough time breeding in capitivity, I say the zoo officials are doing what is necessary. This penguin species is endangered so the promoting of breeding is essential to their survival. Sadly, if humans weren't fucking up the habitat of many of these creatures and hunting them for sport then captivity wouldn't even be necessary in the first place.

Sometimes even gays have to step up and do whats right for the species.

Wow, gay pinguins are as common as gay humans.

Over here in Artis there as a male couple who have been together for years. It was very thrilling when they hatched an egg that was left alone and they were breeding on it. Sadly their baby pinguin died of pneumonia.

The couple has been accepted in both the pinguin as the human community over here.

Hope the same will happen for the gays in Canada.

But if the survival of their species is dependent upon them mating as they might otherwise do outside of a controlled and artificial environment then why not? Its better to have a bunch of penguins than just two and we certainly don't want to kidnap more penguins from the wild do we? Without these two, there are only 4 male penguins andall of the inseminating can't depend on them because at some point you will end up with inbreeding.

Are they going to hold guns to the penguins heads until they fuck a female or are they just going to put them in a habitat with a female and let the natural order of things take place?

I mean, if the penguins are truly gay then they will absolutely refuse their new female partners, right?

They will put sardines on the girl penguins coochies and the boy penguins will eat them out and the fuck them. You really can't go wrong with food and sex.

but I suppose it's also costly.

Here is a happy news for Pedro and Buddy, the two African penguins at the Toronto Zoo that were identified as a gay couple. When the zookeepers noticed behavior denoting a gay relationship between the two penguins, they decided to separate the penguins for pairing them with females to help preserve the endangered species. However, the zoo authorities have said that the "gay penguins" will be reunited after they mate with other female penguins, reports Reuters.
