My computer is a big, diseased whore My slutty computer picked up a virus or something. And now I have lost everything...it even seems to have wiped out my external hard drives. Which means I have lost a lot of music. And a lot of work.
I am not happy. Not happy at all.

But if you are able to restore your system, I suggest rebooting it with Ubuntu Linux or Linux Mint. The virus hackers apparently can't be bothered with open source OS'es.

Our stupid PC (Dell Craptop) just ate two files! They were downloaded versions of the script and the casting sheet for a skit I'm writing, and I saved my work as I went along. Then, when I closed the files so I could email them and open them at home on my FAR SUPERIOR MacBook, they were gone!
I could not find the files I'd spent two hours editing ANYWHERE on that Dell Craptop computer. I had to recreate my work!

You should still be able to recover your data on those hard drives. Try using Wondershare Data Recovery to retrieve it. I can almost guarantee you'd get it back. It's n ot free unfortunately, but I'm sure if you look hard enough, you could get it for free. | |

Thanks for this. I'm starting to investigate all my options here, and I figured I'd have to pay to recover my data, so I'm okay with that. I'll look into this.

It's not just the porn downloaded from the net, it's also the homemade porn which lives on all my devices. Wow, the external ones too? I'm assuming they were hooked up to your computer when it happened? I only connect mine when I want to do a backup and then disconnect it again. But maybe that doesn't make any difference. How do you protect yourself when not even external backups offer any safety? | |

I thought the point with Geek Squad was that they come to your house to do the repairs and that you can sit right next to them while they're doing it and make sure that nothing fishy is going on? | |

Yeah. I thought I was being smart by storing my important files on external hard drives. But when I hook them up to my laptop, the files don't show up. What DID show up was a backup of my PC's hard drive. However, I was scared to do anything with those, since those could be infected. | |
