To keep from getting sick in the first place:

And a flu shot.

That wasn't necessarily directed at you. A lot of people are vitamin D deficient and don't know it. (I was. Your level is supposed to be between 30 and 100 ng/ml. The first time I was tested, mine was 17 ng/ml. omfg Latest check, 59. I'm still taking D - would like to get it up to at least 70.)

And I have to get a flu shot. As many plays as I do, I'm always swimming in a new germ pool (especially if I happen to be working with kids). I've had Type A flu twice - and that's enough, for me. It's horrible.

I NEED to have my level tested nod ... I live in no man's land and don't socialize often and now with kids outta the school system and not living at home ... lower flu risk

I wonder what the symptoms of Low D are ... ?

Hot Toddies for me all the way.

- 1 cup hot water
- 1 tea bag
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 1/4 lemon
- 1 shot whiskey (Though if I have one before Bed I use a little more Whiskey to help me sleep wink )

2 Paracetomol and 2 Ibuprofen Tablets together too, to help with the Headache and Aches etc (Though not with teh Hot Toddy, my Liver won't appreciate that lol ).

I tend not to get full blown Colds, I get aches and pains and stuffiness for a few days with that horrible "Swimming" feeling in my head. Not much of teh runny nose etc.

Well, one thing I know for sure is that I had a lot less energy, got more colds, and had more winter depression when my D was low.

I never did until this year. But I did it for my man.

MS is an immuno-related disease and any time his immune system gets “activated” it can cause a flare or relapse, so it is that much more important for him to be healthy. Being that my germs have the potential to cause his immune system to disable himself, even if only temporarily, I am doing absolutely everything I can to be healthy myself and prevent any illness.

I nagged Sweetie for years to get a flu shot. His Crohn's is the same deal - immuno-related.

Plus, as much as he travels, it would be horrible if he got a Type A flu while on the road. He might not be able to get home.

I usually drink loads of liquid, mainly mint tea. And before I go to sleep I have a cup of hot milk with honey, drink it as hot as I can stand, underneath a blanket, so that I can sweat it out. And I have a few spoons of honey as often as I can. Basically, that's it. It always helps. In about a week I feel completely healthy.

Oh, and if you started coughing, that's normally a good thing. It's supposed to be the last phase of a cold.

well, I had a cold last year that was really bad, and the coughing kept me up at night and actually became quite painful.

I am not a fan of cold medicine, but when I got sick this year I did not want to go through the same thing again. I finally tried Nyquil when I went to bed, and damned if I did not get the best night of sleep ever! It did not make me feel weird like Sudafed/Actifed, and I slept so well I considered just taking it every night for the rest of my life lol (I didn't)

But I don't take drugs during the day. I figure the body's reactions are normal, and they are how we get rid of the illness so why block them unnaturally unless you need to sleep?

I guess I might take an ibuprofin in the beginning of sickness if I have a fever. But once the sickness has degenerated into a bunch of coughing and nose blowing, I just drink a lot of tea with lemon juice and honey.
