Hey, I'm not trying to get into some sort of debate about the rights and wrongs of someone who might choose to sleep with a stranger from a bar....or whether you personally would pick someone up in a club and what the Org might think of you if you did....that's a whole different kettle of fish and not what the original poster was asking.

The original post asked why are women thought of as "sluts" for sleeping around as opposed to guys who aren't. I merely said because its alot easier for a woman to achieve than a man. The moral issues about someone who MIGHT choose to do it (and I didnt say you, or any of lady on here, would or does, or might consider, etc etc etc) is a debate for another day...

If women are called sluts anyway, they might want to pick someone without being detracted in public places such as clubs and bars. That's why I referred to the self-confidence factor. They will be called sluts for using dating websites instead. They will be called sluts for being too picky with men (but hey, why sleeping with a man if you don't get the hots for him?). They will be called sluts for wearing short skirts and stilletos. They will be called sluts whatever they do. I don't get it, you probably don't get it either but that's the way it is. So if they want to pick a man even if it means being called a slut, well they might want to get some peace as long as they can.

I know what I'm talking about because I used to be one of those so-called sluts when I was single. But I never cheated on anybody, I never played the game of love and I never approved men cheating on their wives (but I was the last to know). Then I've been in a 6 years relationship; things just ended but I never betrayed my ex. Yet I'm still seen as a slut by people who knew me long before. People I never slept with. Just because I spurned their rude advances. I just had to accept it. Nothing will ever change about that.

Reguarding the "easier for women" part, well, it could work the other way round but women ususally got romantic approaches in mind, ever for a one night stand. Dating websites make the situation easier instead of hunting in bars and clubs.

Well, personally I don't agree with the term "slut" as a term of endearment...its not a nice name and I don't think anyone should get called it...whether its for wearing a short skirt, sleeping with lots of people, whatever (unless you're sleeping with lots of people you shouldn't be, splitting up families, that sort of thing...but then I'd use a much worse slang term for that! )

But I agree with the "its just easier for a woman" bit.

Good points well made, and I don't disagree with what you said, but I still think it misses the point...

I don't think its enough just to say "because MEN say so"...to start with I've known plenty of women who have called other women sluts behind their backs, and if anything they have been even bitchier about spreading the "slut" myth, rule, whatever ya wanna call it.

The question is, and what the original post asked, WHY do men (and women) say so?? I don't think its enough to just say "because men say so". That's like saying, "why did that dude hit that other dude in the face" and offering up the explanation "because he did". Doesn't explain it...

...I still think that consciously, or unconsciously, people realise how much easier it is for a woman to get someone into bed. Us men are probably jealous about that, wishing it was as easy for us...so we resort to name calling. Some women probably wish they had the front to be like that to, and resort to name calling. Other people just see a large notch on the bed post as nothing to boast about...not that all people or women do boast, but most of us know someone that has and subsequently tar most women that have slept with alot of people with the same brush. Because sleeping with alot of people probably required alot more effort for a man to achieve we don't automatically jump to the same conclusion.

I should have clarified that earlier: no it's not easier for a woman because:

- we're not used to make the first move when it comes to approach a guy (or so I'm not).

- On rare occasion women makes the first move, many guys don't hesitate to call them nymphomaniacs or sluts. It all depends.

- That might be the case for some women, but not all. I think there are more ladies today who are use to making the first move then there ever have been. And even if you're not use to it, that's something that you can change in yourself to help you get a man. There's nothing that a man can change like that in themselves to help them get a woman...its tough for us whether we're use to approaching women or not.

- Some (small minded) men might be thinking you're a slut or a nympho if you made a move (I think a much larger percentage would be flattered). Definately doesn't mean they will turn you down though; it might even make you more appealing to some! But if a man approaches a woman and she thinks "pervert", "nympo" or "slut" there's no way in hell you're having a drink wth her let alone going back to hers!
